NRA to Keep Firing at Obama in Battleground States
October 21, 2008 8:15 PM
In battleground states Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin, the National Rifle Association will be taking aim at Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., with this new ad.
"Imagine your child screaming in the middle of the night when a convicted felon breaks into your home," the narrator says. "Worse, he comes back a second time. You use a firearm to defend yourself and your family. Unbelievably, Obama voted to make you the criminal…"
It goes on from there.
The ad refers to a 2003 incident when a Wilmette, Ill., restaurateur named Hale DeMar shot and wounded a burglar who broke into his house. DeMar was prosecuted by the town of Wilmette, which had, at the time, a ban on the possession of handguns, so some Illinois lawmakers introduced legislation to offer legal protections to individuals who use firearms in self-defense. The bill passed the Illinois state House by a vote of 86-25, and the Illinois state Senate -- where Obama voted against it -- by a vote of 39-20.
This is just the latest of the NRA's myriad ads against the Democrat.

Obama's voting record speaks for itself.
This one issue counts, if you don't trust me to defend my life with a gun, then I don't support your right to govern me. We have a trust issue. Who knows which one of the other amendments to the constitution this guy is getting to nulify next?

Threat to human rights and liberty - that would be the Republican party.
Who want's to legislate sexual morality? Republicans.
Who bans legitimate speech under arcane "obscenity laws" and FCC thugs? Republicans.
Who supports holding and torturing anyone they call and "enemy"? Republicans.
Republicans hate freedom.
I'm a vet - and own guns.
Dems fear personal property. That I can fight. The insanity and hypocrisy of the current Republican party makes them utterly unsupportable by any real patriot.

Obama and Biden both have proven records of radical gun control support. Both of them have worked every opportunity to erode and or eliminate the Second Amendment.
Obama, on his own campaign website, advocates repealing the Tiahrt Amendment and making the Clinton "Assault Weapons" Ban permanent. Obama has voted down home self defense at every opportunity and voted for more bureaucratic roadblocks to firearm ownership, which are always used as a backdoor way to deny someone's Second Amendment rights. What is the difference between requiring a gun license and requiring someone to pass a literacy test and/or pay a poll tax to vote? None.
The Tiahrt Amendment was designed so local politicians couldn't use gun purchase trace data to track down gun owners for gun confiscation schemes (ex. New Orleans, post Katrina). The data could only be used for valid Federal law enforcement actions.
The "Assault Weapons" Ban was merely a way to get people used to gun bans and was completely ineffective at controlling crime, per ATF statistics. Additionally, it just banned much less powerful, look-alike training and target shooting weapons. Actual Military Assault Weapons are already banned under NFA rules barring machine guns and have been banned since 1934.
I live in an urban area. I can tell you that there's a lot of confusion around guns and gun laws. The politicians are taking full advantage of the opportunity to pander to the confused or ignorant. The guns that are showing up in urban areas are illegal guns under the current laws.
I live across the border from Mexico, where guns are supposedly "illegal". I can tell you that the weapons they are using are not what you can buy at your local gun store here. I'm also impressed with the way their gun control laws *don't* work. All they've done is ban weapons from the average law abiding Mexican citizens. If you're a Mexican criminal, you can have all the guns you want, as long as you've paid the right politicians.
I'd love to be able to vote beyond the Second Amendment, but with what's going on across the border from me and how completely gun control has failed there, I can't afford to let my family go unprotected.
John F. Kennedy was a life member of the NRA. What happened to Democrats that protected *all* of our rights?
You can't uninvent the firearm and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to build one. It's naive to think that "more laws" is going to solve a problem dealing with people who don't care what the laws say, anyway.

Why is it every election you all scrape together mis quoted facts about gun control. I am sick of the way you all try to destroy peoples record check mc acains record it is so bias it is pitiful. I will vote for a man I know can and will get us back on our right track and it is obama I am a white voter and avid hunter I dont feel threatened about my guns. I am really very concerned about hand guns and who has a right to carry one pick up a local paper and see who was issued a hand gun permit. I know for a fact felons are issued a permit and it makes me sick we are so stupid to want to put hand guns in our felons hands. Again I will vote obama.

One more thing. Republicans didn't suspend habeas corpus, the liberal supreme court justices (appointed by democrats) did. Look it up. I suggest you turn off MSNBC.

Fast Back - Turn in and cancel your NRA membership. We don’t need nor want your ignorance and apathy. What do I tell my 7-year old? Sorry, you lost your right to protect yourself and family back in 2008 when we let liberals control all of government.

"where Obama voted against it"
This ad is true.

"It never ceases to amaze me how the gun lobby can convince millions of Americans to base their entire political philosophy on one particular interpretation of the Second Amendment, often at the expense of many other constitutional rights."
They have learned well from the abortion industry.

"Your constitutional rights will disappear"
Says the Republican after 8 years of an administration that has led a continual assault against our *actual* constitutional rights.
It never ceases to amaze me how the gun lobby can convince millions of Americans to base their entire political philosophy on one particular interpretation of the Second Amendment, often at the expense of many other constitutional rights.

Sorry folks - Republicans threaten liberty far more that the Dems do. I don't care if you vote Democratic, but the Republican party has proven time and time again that they are authoritarian and have no respect for your rights.
I have firearms. If you have concerns about Obama, buy a firearm now. Issue solved.
No one is "coming to take your guns". They might keep you from buying new ones, but that's not a top priority if you have your firearms already.
The current Republican party suspends habeas corpus, and you don't seem to care. They expand executive power far beyond constitutional bounds, and not a peep. They pass out your tax dollars by the fistfull to oil and military contractors, and you remain silent. They made a mockery of the constitution and the American principals of liberty and justice - yet you do nothing.
One Democrat *MIGHT* increase gun legislation and you cry like it's the end of the American dream.
Wake up. You are buying into a line of crap from the anti-liberty champions.
As for the NRA - I'm a member, but only because my range requires it.

The records are there, and speak volumes for Obama and his stance of anti gun ownership. He is NOT for the Second Amendment, he is for more usless gun control that does NOT solve crimes but gives criminals more venues of choice that are defensless.
If he lied about this, which he most certainly did, then, don't you think he would lie to your about the economic proposals, health care, and others JUST to get your vote? I think so. Obama.... NOPE!
When seconds count police are only minutes away.

What a bunch of Bull. This was a Obama union organized act!
Your wrote: Well, this sure worked well for them in West Virginia, where the mines got shut down for a day when workers protested the NRA/McCain smears they were attempting to distribute.
Bring it on!

Obama is coming for your guns, and with Biden as having most anti-gun voting record, also with Democrats who will gain control of congress nobody will be able to stop them. stop Obama/Biden before it is too late

Anyone thinking Obama will protect your 2nd Amendment as an individual right to possess a firearm is misinformed of his voting record and has not bothered to recognize that his endorsements by the American Hunters and Shooting Assn. are endorsements by an organization with a hidden agenda. Their membership is a small group (100 -150)comprised of a who's who of anti everything. They changed the name of the organization to fool the hunter. Now throw in the endorsement by the Baley Campaign. That should pretty much cinch Obama's position on gun rights.
The NRA has 4-5 million members and was formed in the 18th century and they are not to be trusted? The NRA should have selected a presidential nominee if they have politicians that can fool that many people for that period of time.
What is most bothersome is Obama's ad's claiming to protect your 2nd amendment. He is flat out lieing to us. A lieing politician is nothing new. But don't we generally find that out after they are elected? There are those that would vote for him knowing this character flaw? Unbelieveable.
The NRA didn't hold his arm behind his back to get him to vote against every pro gun legislation that came across his desk. The NRA didn't strong arm him to vote "yes" on every piece of anti gun law that came his way. Obama did that all by himself.
And now he wants your vote using a disguised hunting organization named only to fool you? I was born at night but not last night.
