NRA to Keep Firing at Obama in Battleground States
October 21, 2008 8:15 PM
In battleground states Colorado, Florida, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin, the National Rifle Association will be taking aim at Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., with this new ad.
"Imagine your child screaming in the middle of the night when a convicted felon breaks into your home," the narrator says. "Worse, he comes back a second time. You use a firearm to defend yourself and your family. Unbelievably, Obama voted to make you the criminal…"
It goes on from there.
The ad refers to a 2003 incident when a Wilmette, Ill., restaurateur named Hale DeMar shot and wounded a burglar who broke into his house. DeMar was prosecuted by the town of Wilmette, which had, at the time, a ban on the possession of handguns, so some Illinois lawmakers introduced legislation to offer legal protections to individuals who use firearms in self-defense. The bill passed the Illinois state House by a vote of 86-25, and the Illinois state Senate -- where Obama voted against it -- by a vote of 39-20.
This is just the latest of the NRA's myriad ads against the Democrat.

This NYer "can't get fooled again".
Too much sudden progun talk and position by the same ones, including Obama, who have never supported ANY gun rights stances.
Joe Biden and Obama are the best anti gun Pols that VPC and Brady Campaign could want, and they have already given their support to these two anti gun Democrats who want to reside in the White House.
Wait till the Supreme Court Justice selections, when Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein, Chuck Shumer, Joe Biden, AND Barak Obama, all tell gun owners that responsible gun owners should be treated like criminals because they "cling to their guns..", and reasonable gun laws means a 22 rimfire single shot with open sights ( scopes are for snipers, they think), but nothing else.
Get ready for fingerprinting, photo records in the local Police hall, and big legal liabilities hung around your neck because Obama and Biden think your gun owning ways are a potential crime.

The AHSA is a rights organization? They want more firearms regulation, not less. Firearms are the most regulated item in industry. Ever notice that you never hear anything about or from the AHSA, until a few months before an election?
Obama lies about his support for the Second Amendment. Don't believe me? Look up his Illinois Senate voting record.

Since some of you think Obama won't bother your guns and since you don't believe the NRA adds I will give you a few Obama quotes from newspapers (you should also look at his anti-gun voting record in Illinois Senate): "I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry." - Chicago; Tribune, 4/27/04; "I think it is a scandal that this president did not authorize a renewal of the assault weapons ban." -Il Senate debate, 10/21/04. In 2003 Obama voted for IL SB1195 which would have banned single-shot and double-barreled shotguns, many semi-auto shotguns and 100's of handgun models. Further, after 90 days an IL resident who failed to turn these firearms in would become a felon. And Obama has stated he will nominate anti-gun judges to the Supreme Court (he doesn't like any who voted in favor of the Heller decision). How would you pro-Obama gun owners like to have Charles Schumer sitting on the Supreme Court? I think you gun ownerswho believe the Obama lie better wakeup or get ready to give up your guns.

"...just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can't constrain the exercise of that right..."
Barack Obama, 2008
Philadelphia primary Debate.
Obama also served on the board of the Joyce Foundation, probably the largest private funder of anti-gun and pro-ban groups and research in the country. In total, the foundation gave $18.6 million to approximately 80 anti-gun efforts while he was on the board. For example, $1.5 million went to the Violence Policy Center, which puts out such claims as “Why America Needs to Ban Handguns.” During Obama’s time with the foundation, not a single donation was made to any group that supported individuals’ rights to own guns.

You fools. So quick to believe everything you hear from the mouth of a politician, just because it is pleasing to your ears. Just listen to yourselves. "Obama says he won't take my guns away." "Obama is going to take away from the rich and give to the poor."
America is poised to sell her soul to the devil on Nov 4, and I mean that metaphorically. I'm not calling Obama the devil.
If you're so enamored with communism and socialism DaveinColorado, why don't you move to France or Russia? This is America. If you want a better paying job, you find one or start your own business.
You people know nothing of freedom and liberty. These blessings and rights have NEVER been on any government agenda. The government that was forged of the People, by the People and for the People has been replaced with the government of the Elite, by the Elite and for the Elite. It will never be for the working class in its present state, regardless of which party is "in charge."
"If you love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." -- Samuel Adams 1776

When the Heller case went to the Supreme court Obama had a chance to sign a Congressional Amicus Breif that just stated the signor believed that the Second Amendment is an "individual right of the citizen"to keep and bear arms.OBAMA REFUSED TO SIGN THE BREIF!!!McCAIN SIGNED IT !! That is all you need to know. The rest it just B.S.Jion the NRA or lose you freedom.1-877-NRA-2000.

Obama has yet to see a gun control law that he couldn't vote for.
McCain has voted for only a small few.
Obama's tax policy will kill small business in several ways. 85% of them are taxed through their personal filings, which means that any business with income at $165,000 would see their personal rate go from 33% (the current rate) to 36% (Obama's tax hike). Also, Obama plans to phase out certain deductions, which would add 1.5 more percentage points to the tax liability. He would also require many of these businesses to pay an extra four-point payroll tax surcharge on income above $250,000. Added together, this would bring small business taxes up to 45% (big business would continue to pay the 35% corporate rate).
This is bad for employees at these small businesses because, inevitably, the businesses will have to lay off many workers in order to stay profitable.
Taxing the rich sounds like a good idea... unless you buy food, clothing, fuel, etc. Remember, taxes are passed on to people who buy the products. YOU, the little people, are the only ones who pay taxes. The only change that Obama will bring is the "spare change" you will be asking for on the street corner... because that is the direction that he and a new Democrat majority will take the country.

To those who made anti-NRA remarks: Back up your accuations with facts, whichyou cannot do. The NRA has proof of Obama's anti-gun voting record and agenda. It's people like these who have no clue as to what Obama stands for; that lack the courage to search out the facts. And it's them who may may well help to put Obama in the White House. If we are so unfortunate to have this come to pass I don't want to hear of you complaining when the economy regresses more, when our national security and defense regresses, when you have to pay more for fuel, when Obama takes away all your Second Amendment rights (not that I think you care). Perhaps it's better to, as Abraham Lincoln once szid, "to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt!" And the person who urege hunters andshooters to support Obama, have you lost your mind? Maybe you don't own firearms, but it appears you do. If Obama wins he will take away your hand guns, your semi-auto huntig guns, make you have a firearms ID card (gun registration), and later ban more of your guns. Is that what you want? You better wake up, do some unbiased research (read the NRA reports and others). If Obama wins and you begin surrendering your guns, don't complain as it will be your fault. Finally, your ideology endagers my Second Amendment rights. It's beyond understanding why any gun owner would support Obama. They have been duped by an expert charlatin! WAKE UP!

Google YPM (Young Political Majors) and National Rifle Association to learn more about which Republicans support voter registration fraud. Keep what you read in mind when you see the NRA's nasty untrue attack ads against Obama, too.

of course they are. what else do they have?
but haven't the repugs noticed ANYTHING? the country has moved on from the bullsh*t of the same old tactics. they've head it all before.

People need to wake up. Obama is not talking about taking Joe the Plumbers money and giving it to people without jobs. That is ridiculous and untrue. He is talking about Mega rich people who are raking in obscene profits while paying their workers minimum wage. If they complain too loud about the low wages, they look for workers in India or China to do the work so they can make even higher profit.
Think about the Walmart hiers making billions a year while their workers can't pay rent. Think about mortgage and finance CEO's with paychecks of 487 million over three years while they rape homeowners. Think about Oil execs making 500 billion a year in profit while they bleed America dry.
Wake up people. These mega rich 1-5% don't let ANYTHING trickle down. They rape the American worker for everything they can and they DON'T PAY TAXES! They write off losses, find every loophole and then have folks like McCain subsidize them. AND YES ... paying taxes is patriotic!! It is how we fund America. The problem is that the middle class carries the burden while the mega-rich carry off the rewards.

Devastating AD.
Once again NRA prove they are a effective group.
Once again the truth hurts Obama and his supporters.

What kind of a sick and twisted world does Obama live in to think that if I defend myself and my family that I am the criminal.
The more I find out about Obama, the more I really dislike him and realize just how wrong for America he is.

Republican party is the party of division. The Democratic party is the party of inclusion. The republican party relies on division to win elections. That why they always use wedge issues to pit one group of americans against another. They pit black against white, straight vs gay, well off vs struggling american, old vs young, city vs suburb/rural. big cities vs small towns, pro gun vs anti gun, pro life vs pro choice, etc. That's the republican playbook, they have to pit us against each other to win and they have become experts at it. It's up to voters to penalized them for their behavior and ruining our great nation.

Please change the title of this entry - the idea of someone "firing at Obama" is an all too literal possibility with all of the racist hatred that is emerging in this campaign. Seeing it sent shivers down my spine.

AND????? The problem is what, that they are telling the truth?

Its funny that the NRA is against Obama but yet at the same time the AHSA is FOR Obama....
Schoenke said his AHSA is an alternative to the NRA for "gun rights, respect of the rights, that every law-abiding citizen can own a gun, but with those rights come civic responsibilities, and a huge commitment to land and conservation of our natural resources."
The NRA is totally lacking on policy for land conservation, he said.
"The NRA, in order to win this battle, in order to get McCain (elected), they want to scare, frighten gun owners into believing Obama is going to take away your guns," he said. "That dog doesn't hunt."
While the McCain campaign points out Obama's record "with a microscope," Schoenke said the same could be true about McCain. He cited the NRA's listing of McCain as "Enemy No. 1" in 2001 for his support of background checks at gun shows.
"McCain and the NRA were at each other's throats," he said. "When the McCain-Feingold (campaign finance reform) bill came out, they were adamantly against him."
The NRA, meanwhile, likes to label the AHSA as "the enemy in camouflage."
"But what the hell are they? Unless you're a conservative right winger, you cannot own a gun?" Schoenke asks. "Of course, Democrats own guns. Moderates own guns."
Schoenke said AHSA "doesn't believe in unfettered, unimpeded, unregulated access to guns. We believe that only law-abiding citizens should have the right to own a gun, and with that right goes civic responsibility, which means we don't want terrorists and criminals and people who harm themselves get guns. We want to do everything we can to make sure that doesn't happen."
The group also has a "huge commitment to conservation, which really separates us from the NRA, as the NRA is horrible when it comes to conservation issues," he said. "They're a one-issue organization. They're all gun rights."
The NRA claims to represent all 80 million gun owners in the U.S., but Schoenke said there is a wide gap between gun-banners and the NRA's wide open stance, and that gun owners wanted an alternative to the NRA.
"The gun rights issue is behind us and conservation is important," he said. "Obama is ahead of McCain, and I think he's clearly ahead when it comes to the economy. That's why I strongly urge hunters and shooters throughout Minnesota to look to Obama and support him."

Well the NRA, GOP and the Mccain campaign can throw all the mud they like to see what sticks. But guess what. Not this time. It wont work because people are aware its all smears. The Ayers card was tried, it backfired and that was dropped. Now all sorts of slogans and words a being flung from all directions. communism/socialism/real Va/real america/anti-america, u name the rest. Palin claimed on the CNN interview that the job of the VP is to control the senate.... she needs to read the constitution very well.Although polls cant be fully trusted, but what can be trusted is the fact that this is not 2004.........people are up to speed with GOP tactics and it wont work this time around. Elections cant be won by instilling fear and divide

Jake, you ought to tell the whole story:
Two days after the break-in, the Cook County state's attorney's office released a statement declaring DeMar's actions self-defense. But Illinois requires gun owners to keep a firearm owners' identification card, and DeMar's had expired in 2000. On January 8, 2004, he was charged with that violation, which carries a maximum penalty of a $2,500 fine and a year in jail. Prosecutors dropped the charges about a month later, saying they did not want to "revictimize" DeMar for a "lapse."
