Obama Advertising Within a Video Game
October 14, 2008 11:04 AM
The virtual world within the Xbox 360 racing game "Burnout Paradise" features an Obama for President billboard -- indicating the first time a presidential candidate has advertised in a video game.
The gaming website Gamepolitics first posted the image of the Obama billboard within the fantasy computer world.
Holly Rockwood, director of corporate communications at Electronic Arts, confirmed to the gaming blog Gigaom, that "like most television, radio and print outlets, we accept advertising from credible political candidates. Like political spots on the television networks, these ads do not reflect the political policies of EA or the opinions of its development teams.”
Advertising Age applauds the move as savvy, saying, "we as advertisers have used the gaming space to reach the 18- to 34-year-old demographic so why shouldn't a presidential candidate use it as well?"
Obama has said in the past, "We’re going to have to parent better, and turn off the television set, and put the video games away, and instill a sense of excellence in our children, and that’s going to take some time.”
But presumably these ads -- which advise that early voting has begun, and directs voters to an Obama website that provides voting information -- are targeted at those 18 and older.
So what's next? Obama product placement on "Lost" and "Heroes"?

Mcain supporters, please proof read your messages. Grammar and spelling are important virtues if you're going to talk politics, or are all republican supporters under educated. vote Obama and help give your children a better education that you have.

Dave H,
The "educated Democratic ticket"????
Obama is a one term Senator who has never done anything to prepare him to be President!
And Joe Biden, just review his explanation of what the Vice-President's job is from the last debate! He go everything wrong, even where the Constitutional authority comes from. Talk about a dud

Wow,
I use to like some EA games..
What sell-outs!
They should at least put the Red Hammer & Sickle up with those ads!
Now we get to pay to be advertised to with this BS!
Think Hitler or Stalin trying to influence every aspect of your life!
It’s a grim future indeed with this NoBama Nazi!
No more escapism, not in an Obama world…

McLiar and the Straight Hawk Express are on the edge of adding KKK to their title. His allowing that kind of shoutout from his shills in the campaign stops and his air-headed Palin spouting off about terrorist ties that is plainly not true, demonstrate to me how unbelievably unqualified the Republican ticket is. I'll vote for the educated Democratic candidates.

To the commenter above who thinks Obama is "brilliant": I believe he is DESPERATE. He is trying to infuse himself into everything and everyone in this nation. (KINDA LIKE BRAINWASHING, DON'T YOU THINK?) He is a bit obsessive, one scary individual.

Hey Jake:
Obama's advertising in SEVERAL X-Box games.
Finally! Someone givin' love to the couch potatoes!

This makes perfect sense, as only in a video game could his economic policies actually work (i.e. fantasy land)

The Obama Campaign runs like an electronic machine for the 21st Century. McCain's vintage spark plugs produces sputters and spurts and his mavericky Pinto (the Ford type) will soon be LEFT stranded on the right side of the road.
Good riddence to a bad deal!

The same folks who don't get the brilliance of advertising to this VAST sector just like the McCain Campaign advisers: CLUELESS
Yea, you can overlook these "voters" by calling them losers but it will be McCain who looses come November. And BIG!!!
There is more bad news for McCain just coming round the bend.

Whine, whine, whine. The Republicans are so sad that in 2008 they have a bad candidate and the Democrats have a good one.
As an Independent, I know both parties are full of it. Reps -- get a brand new platform. Throw out FOX news and the entire Bush clan! Dems -- you are the lucky ones but work WITH Obama and the former Republicans and Independents to CHANGE America. Don't try the old Democratic tricks or he will fail.

"Now you understand the difference between Republicans and Democrats."
What you forgot to mention is that the Democrat got his 20 dollars by taxing you, so it wasn't his money, it was the peoples. Just like a Dem, to play the superhero, but they forget to tell you were their hand out money comes from.

Guess the O is going after that under 18 unable to vote group. No worries, Acorn will list them all by their online names and age as "over 18".

Jake, when will you connect the dots between video game ads and the exploding McCain yard signs in Oregon?
Didn't you know Bill Ayers wrote that ad?

republicans are not sad, no one wants to fall down and worship obama. Oh let not say that- they will send the fed's to your door.

It is a smart, savvy, cutting edge way of getting out the message, simple as that.
Did the numbskulls at McPain/Falin central think of this? No, which is why they are jealous as usual. They've been completely outsmarted this campaign season, but bringing in Wilfred Brimley is probably their highlight.
And I LOVE the McPain trolls here, they have all but conceded that Grampy and Bible Spice are going to get slaughtered in three weeks at the ballot box.
Don't be too sore about it. It's bad for your complexion.
And please keep shouting Ayers! ACorn as loudly as you can.

How dare you pick on The Chosen One.
The Messiah has every right to think he is God. He will unite this planet, heal it and there will be peace.
Obama is sent to lead us from a higher power. We are supposed to serve him. You should not even be allowed to speak if it isn't serving his best interest.
