Obama Camp Responds to Jesse Jackson's Comments on ‘Zionists’
October 15, 2008 10:20 AM
In yesterday's New York Post, conservative columnist Amir Taheri reported on an interview with Rev. Jesse Jackson in Evian, France, at the World Policy Forum.
Taheri wrote that Jackson "promised 'fundamental changes' in U.S. foreign policy -- saying America must 'heal wounds' it has caused to other nations, revive its alliances and apologize for the 'arrogance of the Bush administration.' The most important change would occur in the Middle East, where 'decades of putting Israel's interests first' would end.
"Jackson believes that, although 'Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades' remain strong, they'll lose a great deal of their clout when Barack Obama enters the White House."
The Obama campaign's response to these vague quotes -- recorded by a columnist it considers hostile in a tabloid newspaper it considers biased against them -- from an interview with a man last publicly seen threatening to castrate Sen. Obama, is as follows, from Obama campaign national security spokesperson Wendy Morigi:
“Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. is not an adviser to the Obama campaign and is therefore in no position to interpret or share Barack Obama's views on Israel and foreign policy. As he has made clear throughout his career and throughout this campaign, Barack Obama has a fundamental commitment to a strong U.S.-Israel relationship, and he is advised by people like Dennis Ross, Daniel Kurtzer, Rep. Robert Wexler, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Senator Joe Biden, who share that commitment. As president, he will ensure that Israel can defend itself from every threat it faces, stand with Israel in its quest for a secure peace with its neighbors, and use all elements of American power to end Iran’s illicit nuclear program. No false charges can change Barack Obama’s unshakeable commitment to Israel’s security."

UPDATE: The McCain campaign has jumped on these comments, with senior foreign policy advisor Randy Scheunemann saying, "According to a prominent Democratic supporter of Barack Obama, the 'Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades' will 'lose a great deal of their clout when Barack Obama enters the White House.' It should not surprise anyone that Obama’s supporters see what others, from the terrorist group Hamas to Iranian President Ahmadinejad, have seen: an Obama presidency would bring real change to America’s policy of support for Israel. Barack Obama has claimed that nobody has suffered more than the Palestinians, praised a former spokesman of a Palestinian terrorist group for reminding him of his own 'blind spots' and 'biases,' and told the New York Times that Hamas and Hezbollah have 'legitimate claims.' Barack Obama expressed support for Jerusalem being the undivided capital of Israel and switched his position 24 hours later in the face of criticism from Palestinians. Barack Obama has said it is a 'disgrace' that the United States has not met unconditionally with leaders committed to Israel’s destruction. Now, Barack Obama claims to be a strong supporter of Israel but his supporters -- here and abroad -- know better."

Jackson made the remarks to the World Policy Forum in France last week, according to The New York Post. The civil rights activist reportedly said that "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" would lose some of their influence with Obama in the White House, and that "decades of putting Israel's interests first" would come to a close.

Typical Jesse Jackson.
Find a hot button. Interject self, in spite of having no stake and no constituency. Create friction. Solve nothing.
Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
If we ignore him, he will go away, since he thrives on attention.

Zionism has been a thorn in US diplomacy. Most people think that it has something to do with Biblical prophecy but in reality it is a political movement that has nothing to do with Bible prophecy. The father of Zionism Theodore Herzl was a communist as well as the first prime minister David Ben-Gurion. Who control the US banking system? Who control Wall Street? Does Jesse Jackson know something that we should know?

A person(Obama)who can refuse to vote for a ban on partial birth abortion and a ban on infanticide is not a man of any kind of morals or character. Wise up America!!!

You know he was born in Hawaii. Why do his college records matter did you see Bush's and he got 2 terms Being the president of the harvard law review tells me he had better grades than Bush. Most likely a lot better. And as for William Ayer's is he still wanted by the F.B.I. NO he is not. And yet McCain says he knows where Bin Laden is and hasn't told anyone where he is isn't that aiding and abedding a fugitive or something similar? And by the way could you clarify for me which candidate you were refering to when you said one our presidential candidates is the anti-christ?

Who is Jesse Jackson?

Stephanie
Obama was born in Hawaii.
But if he had not been he would not be a natural born citizen I thought the same thing as you but if you look it up in order for someone to be a natural born citizen they must be born on american soil and if they are not than both parents have to be U.S. citizen.
But in the case of Obama it is a moot point. John McCain is so desperate that he is going after loose associations that Obama has, that if there was any real proof that he was not born on U.S. soil McCain would have Palin screaming it at the top of her lungs. There would be ads in every state about it.
These statements questioning if he is a U.S. citizen are just playing on peoples ignorance. Just like McCain saying he knows where Bin Laden is, if he knows where Bin Laden is and is not telling the CIA he should be arrested for aiding and abedding a known criminal.

Jackson has said today on a live interview that he never made that statement and essentially that Amir Taheri is lying.
Check out past "claims" by Amir Taheri you will find it interesting to say the least.

Jesse Jackson, just like McCain is old news. I have said it on this site before and I'll say it again. This is the 21st century!

I am sure Jesse knows just how crooked Obama is and do not have any personal jealousy of him, as his supporters claim.
After all, most of us KNOW Jesse Jackson has done more for civil rights than The Tainted One has ever thought of doing.

JOSH:
A human being who refers to babies as "punishment" is the person who has no morals or decency.

After thinking all his statements through, I wish all of Jackson's teeth would fall out except one so he could have a toothache!

What a horse's behind Jesse Jackson has been and always will be. Why does anybody give him air time.

I agree that Palestinians have suffered a lot. I also agree Hamas and Hezbollah have legitimate claims the problem is they have tried to solve the claims in a negative way.
Notice in what Scheunemann said where the quotation marks are as to the actual words Obama said. Why does Scheunemann use the entire quotes? to mislead the people.
The only words that they quote Obama as actually having had said:
'blind spots', 'biases,', 'legitimate claims.', and 'disgrace'

cincy
she said it like that because if she had said Jesse Jackson Sr. she knew everyone would have said that a man who previously said he wanted to castrate Obama is NOT a REAL supporter of Obama.
Posted by: Josh | Oct 15, 2008 5:30:42 PM
If Barack Obama is responsible for every moronic comment made by supposed "supporters," then John McCain is responsible for the nuts in his rallys who are yelling "kill him." Jesse Jackson is a fool and does not have one thing to do with the Obama campaign. He is an idiot which is more than demostrated by his completely asnine remarks.
Posted by: DW | Oct 15, 2008 5:29:10 PM
First off Jesse Jackson Jr. has pretty much disowned his father.
Second does anyone have any Kenyan documentation that Obama was born in KENYA? The answer NO if they did McCain would be using it. He's not.
Third why don't Republican's use PROOF of their accusations. An opinion article in a newspaper is just that an OPINION not FACT.
Just give me something concrete.

"According to a prominent Democratic supporter of Barack Obama"
Interesting that Scheuenemann doesn't want to mention who said it. Typical spin.

If ya really think Obama was born in Kenya, I got some Enron stock for sale.
Wanna buy?
I bet ya also think there is oil of the coast of Indiana?
