Obama Dismisses Biden Comments on Being 'Tested' as 'Rhetorical Flourishes'
October 22, 2008 12:40 PM
RICHMOND, Va. -- Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., today dismissed comments by his running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., that as a young, inexperienced president, he would be tested, as "rhetorical flourishes."
At a Seattle, Wash., fundraiser Sunday, Biden said, "Mark my words, it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America ... Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."
Obama today said that Biden was merely making the same point that Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff made to Bloomberg News yesterday, that "any period of transition creates a greater vulnerability, meaning there's more likelihood of distraction. You have to be concerned it will create an operational opportunity for terrorists.'' The first World Trade Center attack came in the first year of Bill Clinton's presidency; the 9/11 attack came in the first year of George Bush's.
But when a reporter pointed out that Biden seemed to be speaking specifically about America's enemies testing Obama in particular, Obama said, "Joe sometimes engages in some rhetorical flourishes. But I think his core point was that the next administration is going to be tested. The next administration is going to inherit a whole host of really big problems."
The next president, Obama said, would need to send a "clear signal to the rest of the world that we are no longer about bluster and unilateralism and ideology, but about creating partnerships around the world."
The McCain campaign has been trying to make hay out of Biden's remarks, suggesting that Biden subconsciously gave voice to the concern that the enemies of the U.S. would be tempted to test the relatively inexperienced liberal candidate. "We don't want a president who invites testing from the world at a time when our economy is in crisis and Americans are already fighting in two wars," McCain said Tuesday in Pennsylvania.

Of course Obama dismissed Biden's comments, just as he dismisses any comment that might cast a negative light on him. Did anyone really expect him to not dismiss them? Did anyone really think that Obama would seize the opportunity to answer legitimate questions voters might have about his ability to lead the nation through tense times? The world is supposed to love the US if we elect Obama - now we hear that they might instead "test us" and we're supposed to just let the comments go because Obama "dismisses" them. Sorry. I can't let this one drop so easily.

Sarah Palin is 100x more qualified than Barack Obumma.

That last debate said it all. McCain’s eye rolling and "Gorelike" sighing was enough for me. The man is not in real control of himself. To be brief, I offer a scenario: If a foreign dictator or other government authority has a beef with our foreign policies, how will McCain's obvious disdain for them going to affect the final successful outcome of an agreement. McPoker thinks we are omnipotent. "Its over for the special interests." So true. Its time for a big change. The mindset as we have seen with the present admin has done nothing but (.."bring it on..")to put us on the defense, even with our allies. -Not every situation should paragraph a prelude to war-. “We have met the enemy, and they are us”. If our allies tend to be reluctant to side with us, it seems to reason, something isnt right with the messenger. Colin Powell was right to vote for Obama, we do need a serious change.

I fear the election night thanks to the media and all the hype that they have put out there all the racist remarks the damage they have done. This election will not have a good finish now no matter which way it goes unless we as Americans change it cause the media is looking for good stories, ratings please let us take back the election and tell the media thanks but no thanks.

Let me put it to you in a scenario let's just say Biden's prediction comes true, just say. Obama is in office he has taken away your guns, he has taken someone on in another country and they are flexing their muscles at us. "It happens" you watch as your parents die, your children are killed and you fight for your life nothing else matters not the economy, oil, health care just saving you. You stop, you see yourself in a mirror somewhere and say to yourself "I wish I had asked the questions, what was I thinking, there was so much at stake" See I remember how I felt on September 11 when the towers came down and Americans died because someone wanted to test us. I did not like how I felt.

Hey Fraggenboots:
A) Jesus admonished those who made public their charitable donations, i.e., Obama reports $300 but do you know for a fact that that is all he gave to charity or all he claimed on his tax returns?(Judge not, lest you be judged)
B) As for tax collectors, read the story of Zaccheus in Luke 19, and note that Matthew the Evangelist was a tax collector; also note that it was Jesus himself who is quoted as saying that we should "render to Caesar that which is Caesar's", i.e., pay one's taxes.

Sarah Palin has taken more hits than any candidate in history and not once has she backed down and she has just as much experience as Obama and no one questions that even though he is running for President. Ask questions people don't just fight amoung ourselves ask your candidate the tough questions and make them answer. After all they are responsible to us the people and they work for us the people.

shalom - "Obama is a skilled and exceptional US and world leader...."
========================================
What is he skilled at and what has he lead in the world?

The answer to your nonsensical question is general Colin Powell's comments on Meet the Press last Sunday.....
Listen to him......

Just listen to yourselves, you would not be doing this to each other if only you would make each party sit down and answer not tip toe around not sidestep or dance but answer the questions. This is my point the media has our country divided and they are not being responsible and reporting the truth they are in it to win at all cost how sad.

My fear is if should McCain takes his last breadth, Palin will assume the Presidency. She's not qualified to be a VP let alone a President. Don't people worry about this? If McCain throws her under the bus NOW, I will consider voting for him.

We are doing ok it is tight for all Americans it is uncertain what will happen but I have faith that this too shall pass. We have had tough times in America before we just need to be careful of our choices in financing as well as in our choices for who runs the country. If Americans budget themselves and plan just as it takes good planning and asking the right questions in this election too.

Wanda, how's housing where you are at?

What are we doing...People yes we the people need to know all there is to know about the candidates. I am scared an anguish of people not knowing the way out questions asked and not answered. The media playing hardball on a woman's choice of clothing. You the people kept saying it is the issues well the clothes she wears is not the issues but what Biden said is the issue who Obama is certainly is the issue. The fate of all Americans rest on your vote. Please, please ask questions this isn't a game of tug of war if you choose wrong we all loose.. Game over.

McCain is skilled, He is skilled in blaming the Democrats when a bill of the Republicans on social Security failed in 2005.
But Republicans were in the Majority in the Senate and Congress in 2005.
Maybe, people just do not like the idea of trusting Wall Street with their social Security.

Here is a different view on the VP picks: I would rather have a good experienced backup when I needed it than to have a risky unethical jabberjaw take over if I wind up on a gurney.

"P.T. Barnum sure knew his stuff.'

Jock, why did BO pick Biden? He is worse on the road than Palin is. So many misspeaks...Is he feeling sorry for McCain and trying to make it easier?
Posted by: fraggenboots | Oct 22, 2008 5:59:45 PM
Jock, I agree strongly. You have to be psychic or a mind reader to understand Joe B.
