MIke NC,
I'm not Brenda, but I am a poster who is tired of being treated as if I am simple minded if I dare not fall in line in support Barack Obama's tax proposals. yes, I understand what the man says his plan entails. I understand that he wants us to believe one simple fact-- 95% of us get tax cuts, 5% of us get our taxes raised. Sounds lovely, but the truth, even as far as his campaign is willing to admit if you dig through the fine print and tease the meaning out of the "jello" of his statements, is not that simple. People making over 250,000 are guaranteed a tax hike, which is intended, it seems to me, as much to appease class envy as to raise revenue. People making less are lead to believe their taxes will go down. But some of that promise is clever use of words-- as I have mentioned in previous posts, a scheduled lowering of the child tax credit would be eliminated, so that you would continue to get 1000 per child rather than have that reduced to 500 per child. Obama's crew counts this proposal to keep the status quo as a "tax cut." (Oh, and John McCain proposes moving the credit up to 3000 per child, a much higher "cut" for familes.) In addition, over 40% of Americans don't have to pay any personal income taxes, so it's hard to see how you cut "$0.00" But Obama has found a way-- they get a larger earned income credit, so they get a check (or a larger check than at persent) from the government, which he counts as a 'tax cut.' Where I live, we call it welfare.

So, even based on what is being "promised" here, I am not moved. McCain's tax plan is better, in my opinion. But I am also extremely skeptical that any tax legislation Obama gets passed once he is elected will very closely resemble his promises, anyway. He's already setting things up to blame anything he does on George Bush--- I wanted to give you all more money, but because of Bush, we can't. I had every intention of cutting your taxes, but because the Republicans wrecked the economy, that will have to wait. blah blah blah

So, yes, I understand Obama's tax proposals-- what he want me to think he's proposing, what he's actually proposing, and what seems likely he will actually do or not do once elected.

Common Sense wrote: "These "plumbers" remind me of those conservatives that laughed off Obama's suggestion that we stop using as much gas?" Actually the suggestion that was laughed off was to "inflate your tires."

Inflating your tires to the proper level is a great suggestion. But just to say "inflate your tires" can be a problem. If your tires are already inflated to the proper level, additional inflation can be harmful. Over-inflated tires ride on just the center of the tread. The smaller contact area means reduced grip on the road; and it can cause steering and stopping problems not to mention increased wear on the tires.

Yes, "trickle-up poverty" is the answer. What a joke? It scares me to think that an American citizen can ask Obama a question about his tax plan, then his party unleashes the hord on this man. Digging up and conjuring up any information they can against this man making it public. Is this a preview of what is to become of America.

I think 95% of the voters probably are the people who make under 250,000.00 dollars! If you make that you should give more! Give me a break! How golly you must be to expect not to pay your share!

The lies spread here and by the McCain campaign just make you shake your head. Obama didn't "show up on this guy's doorstep"--Joe approached him on the street and was then closely followed by the McCain team or consrvative folks (how do you think we saw the footage of him watching the debate?) I haven't heard jow the "undecided voter" say one positive thing about Obama--from his comments and his past voting record, he's a straight-up Republican. It doesn't sound as if he is anywhere near ready to buy a business and apparently his boss's business makes about $150K a year.

This sudden burst of "socialist" horse manure is absurd. How do you folks THINK that we're paying for this trillion dollar war--Mom's credit card? Police? Firemen? Highways? Teachers? Libraries? is that all "socialism?" When bridges collapse or teachers get laid off or soldiers don't have enough body armor, I don't hear any of you saying "well, you know what? we shouldn't have to pay for tht anyway--that's SOCIALIST!" Honestly--it's embarassing--you expect to get everything for free? And you call yourselves patriotic? Feh...

I admire Obama for his comment to Joe. he could have lied and told Joe what he wanted to hear, instead he was honest!! something different from a ploitician. how refreshing.

All you ever need to know about Obama's political aspirations and plan is described in Saul Alinsky's philosphy and strategy in 'organizing', you know the guy who Obama said influenced him more than anyone else...

This nation is primed for Obama's 'strategy'. I'm not going to say to be scared. Read it for yourself, if you dare, and draw your own conclusions. You may still disagree and think he's genuine. Oh well. Dont listen to facts, figures, history, associations, background, philosophies, idealogies... and we're not talking campaign speak here, let's talk real world and acceptance that 'Oz' is not really who you might think he is.

Geevil,

I am hardly Joe the Plumber. First I have a job and second I pay my taxes.

These "plumbers" remind me of those conservatives that laughed off Obama's suggestion that we stop using as much gas? Well guess what. Our consumption has gone down and now so has the price!
====================
Common Sense- The conservatives didn't laugh off using less gas, they laughed off Obama's hooey energy plan of "inflating your tires" will save as much oil as we would drill offshore.
OPEC sets the price of oil, OPEC is foreseeing a recession therefore oil prices are being lowered. The oil consumption wasn't entirely on the U.S. either, China and other highly populated countries want to live like us,and drive SUV's instead of riding a bike, their oil consumption has greatly risen. The liberals really like to lay the world problems at the U.S.'s feet but our country is one in only a few that take global warming seriously and take steps to conserve energy. Other countries do not feel so inclined. Turn the outrage to them, not to the "evil" Americans who drive to work everyday or drive an SUV because of the need for space.

If you think that OPEC has lowered the price of a barrel of oil because of less consumption, then why would they do it now, when 48% of the oil platforms in the Gulf were taken out of commission due to Hurricane Ike? Therefore, less oil is being produced for our consumption and simple logic would think that oil prices would be higher.

Which appears to be more fiscally responsible? Obama sounds like another Bush

Washington Post updated 5:18 a.m. CT, Sat., Oct. 18, 2008
"McCain this week unveiled his $52 billion package, which includes tax breaks for Americans withdrawing money from retirement accounts, the elimination of taxes on unemployment benefits, and a cut in capital-gains taxes for investors who sell long-held stocks. McCain also proposed using nearly half of the money from the $700 billion bailout to buy mortgages held by distressed homeowners, renegotiate their debt and help them stay in their homes.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama had initially proposed directing billions of dollars to road projects, aid to state governments struggling with budget shortfalls and a broad tax rebate worth $500 to individuals and $1,000 to families. This week, he tacked on a temporary tax credit for companies that hire workers in the United States, raising the price of his plan to $175 billion."

"Obama tries to help out the little guy by giving him tax breaks and he's too stupid to understand'

No. Little guy is too smart to fall for Obama's BS.

You can deceive yourself in to thinking that it is ok to attack Joe the plumber and get away with it. Quite the contrary, you now are attacking Joe the Voter and that wont be tolerated. He asked a simple question about taxes. Never once did he mention that he owned
a business or a plumbers license. Just a simple question on a plan touted by a person running for office. Obama said that he wanted to spread any hard workers wealth with others. Even the field. The haves against the have nots.OK Obama screwed up with that socialist talk. But here is where the Leninism spews forth. All over a question on a canidates position on taxes. This speaks volumes on just who is really for the people of this nation and who stands for Mother Russia!Don't think that Joe the Voter will stand for your JackBoot Thuggery against us. Your sense of CHANGE is in the word only, no substance or backbone!
Obamas' CHANGE is a jellyfish that slips through the fingers of all that touch and handle it! The tenaciles wrap around the throat and squeese the life outta the VICTIM!!

Poor Joe The Plumber! Nobama stalks him on his front door step ... gets an honest question... Nobama finally slips up and fesses up "Lets share the wealth and socialize" and the brown shirts are swarming the local records, neighborhood and trash cans looking for dirt on an honest, hard working american who just expressed an opinion. Gee Bawak, sounds like socialism to me too .... but I'm just your average, normal, hard working Phd kinda guy here. Warning .... don't pull up to my front door and expect the stupidity you get from your puppets.
Why don't those media folks parked out in front of Joe's house go check into the back taxes owed by Nobama's Campaign treasurer.
Vote Nobama-Auyers for a secure and drug free America. God help us all!

Correction: Brenda,

I think the "no sense" label is best applied to you. Only a lack of common sense would lead one to believe that we should NOT consume more oil that enriches our enemies. I see you are fighting this tooth and nail.

Alternative energy is where Obama is. That's how we get off foreign oil and CREATE a source that foreign countries may actually buy, too. Obama wants us to remove the depency and AT THE SAME TIME, put our world image back on track as the INNOVATORS.

Screw the fake entrepreneurs like "Joe the Plumber" and let's actually *CREATE something useful again. Takes brains -- not big mouths.

Yes we can!

James Daley,

The truth that Obama told "Joe the Plumber" was that 95% of Americans need a tax break. They will get that needed break with his tax plan.

As it turns out, even "Joe the Plumber" who makes under 50K a year will also get a tax break -- that is, should he decide to be a law-abiding, patriotic citizen and get his tax lien paid up and actually file his taxes.

The cornerstone of Socialism is "spreading the wealth around".

Socialists believe that wealth should not be concentrated in the possession of a few members of a society (”few” being a relative term), and they believe that only the government should be able to determine how much is “enough” and how much is “too much.” The Socialists view it as the duty of the wealthy to support the non-wealthy.
In the end there is no incentive to work; the entire system collapses - as witnessed by the Soviet Union.

But as Obama pushes his Socialist agenda he should remember a quotation by Karl Marx:
“History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.”
Obama is the farce part.

Do you really understand Obama's tax plan ?

Becuase all Barack is doing is Giving Tax Payers who make under $250,000 a tax break!

People who earn over $250,000 go back to being taxed at 39% like they were under Clinton!(insted of the current 36%)

Do you understand that ?

I really dont get it the only thing i can think of is that you watch fox news and are missinformed or you just dont like obama and dont care about the truth!
