Obama Warns Supporters to Not Get 'Cocky'

October 16, 2008 10:04 AM

At a fundraiser at Manhattan's Metropolitan Club this morning, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., admonished his supporters to not be overconfident heading into the homestretch.

"For those of you who are feeling giddy or cocky or think this is all set," Obama said, "I just have two words for you: New Hampshire."

Polls indicated Obama would win the Granite State primary in January, but he lost to Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y.

"I've been in these positions before when we were favored and the press starts getting carried away and we end up getting spanked," Obama said. "That's another good lesson that Hillary Clinton taught me."

More than 100 people, each contributing $30,800, listened to Obama's warnings.

"What we want to do in these 19 days is show the same passion for Americans who are struggling out there, show the same dedication, show the same stick-to-it-ness, show the same steadiness that's going to be required in guiding this country past some very difficult times," he said.

Obama this morning heads to the state where he got "spanked," New Hampshire, for an event in Londonderry today.

McCain is a rich, angry ol' man with a bucket list. On that list is to be President of the United States. The republicans got us into this mess don't they don't deserve another 4 years...America can't take another 4 years!

Sen. John McCain's vice presidential running mate has been running around the country, firing up her -- yes, her, and not necessarily McCain's -- loyal supporters by blasting Sen. Barack Obama for "palling around with terrorists" and demanding that the American people know exactly when he learned of the past of 1960s radical William Ayers.

She has stoked the crowds by saying, "This is not a man who sees America the way that you and I see America." We all know what that is designed to do: Portray Obama as a foreigner who isn't as American as she. Or you. Or Joe Six-pack, the hockey mom, soccer mom, Wal-Mart mom, NASCAR dad and the other coded words she uses regularly.

But what is truly pathetic is that Palin talks tough, but is really scared of facing her own issues.

Since she is good at proclaiming that the American people need to know who Barack Obama is -- an attempt to paint him as a shady figure who might occupy the White House -- the American people deserve to hear Palin answer if her husband, Todd, a former member of the Alaska Independence Party, agreed with its founder, who wanted to secede from the union.

Is there anything more anti-American than wanting to sever ties with the country?

The American people deserve to hear from Palin as to why she didn't say a word to rebuke the hateful, pathetic and degrading comments made at rallies featuring her, such as when someone in the crowd called Obama a terrorist, someone else shouted, "Off with his head" and others suggested he is a traitor.

Jwench,

It's NBC.
face it!

Obama spent more money on ads... most of them with a positive message saying what he will do for the American people. The others were in response to McCain's onslaught of negative ads.

McCain/Palin rallies remind me of KKK rallies or witch hunts! Standing around with pitchforks!

"Alomagirl: "Obama inspires me. In times that I lose faith in people, because of humans being intolerant to each other, because of the greedy nature of corporations and dishonest politicians."

I find it very hard to believe that when you lose faith in people, you turn to and believe a pure politician for inspiration. Are you kidding me? Your source of inspiration gave less than 7% of his adjusted gross income to charity in 2006 and in the area of 1-5% in years prior to that. When he was involved in community service, he was also working with the questionable people we have all heard about. How can a man who doesn't walk the talk inspire you? I'm just curious. '

Please forgive them for they know not what they do.

"Socialism is not what sensible, sane, informed people want and I resent you Obama puppets dragging the rest of us into that black hole of poverty with you!"

You're not very bright are you? McCain also recently voted for th $700 billion socialist 'bailout'... I mean "rescue package"

He also said he would veto any pork laden bill... and that bill had $150 billion in additional pork!

Are any of you old enough to recall Russia when it was a socialist country? I remember seeing people in long lines, standing in the freezing cold and snow to use their vouchers to get toilet paper or bread!

Don't forget the possibility of Palin becoming President!... That woman is NOT qualified to be VP let alone President! Top republican Chuck Hagel said so himself!

VOTE OBAMA!... AND TELL PALIN/MCCAIN "THANKS... BUT NO THANKS" ON NOV 4TH!

New Hampshire was stolen by someone in support of Hillary.

Depending on what type of voting equipment was used in a precinct determined who won that precinct.

The chances of this being coincidental are off the charts.

There are 19 days to go. Everyone supporting Obama needs to keep working all the way up until Nov.4...making sure that we get to the polls and we get our families to the polls. This is the single most important any of us is being asked to do.

I was a staunch Hillary supporter who said I would never vote for Obama. Now I have seen that he will be better for this country I am behind him 100%. We can't afford John McCain to get in the WH.

Posted by: Jwench | Oct 16, 2008 7:08:29 PM

I laugh when Republicans say that Obama has run more negative ads or that he is a Socialist. Are they forgetting the Karl Rove Playbook--Defeat your enemy by tearing him completely down. Democrats could only smarten up after two straight elections of those tatics. Also, we are ALL Socialist RIGHT NOW. Why? Because of the $700 Rescue Plan (Wall Street Bailout. Socialism involves a shared risk. A few people made money giving out risky loans at high interest rates, but, all of us are sharing the cost of propping up the economy.

Posted by: francheska ;-) | Oct 16, 2008 7:02:55 PM

The 250,000.00 figure is no accident, a few years back I remember the number at which people weren't paying their share was closer to 75,000. It has moved upwards to bring on board the middle class, and it has worked as most are well below that obviously, and the number allows a lot of room before it would ever impact even those who hope their financial situation improves. But, once elected and "circumstances" "change", watch that number drop. What's the old joke about being able to tell if a politician is lying? His lips are moving. Anyone remember George "Read my lips" Bush senior?

What a lousy argumentation the Bush argument of the Democrats is. McCain is no Bush and does absolutely not agree with him. He is far more liberal and has a completely different opinion on Finance Policy. Plus a different opinion on Foreign Policy, I can't remember that Bush was medalled by the peace medal in 2006 of the Munich conference on Security for peace by dialogue. Americans are not stupid, and therefore you will see who will win the elections:
McCain/palin 2008.

Posted by: james | Oct 16, 2008 6:48:00 PM

Explain then why he voted 97% of the time for GWB if he is no Bush.
