One Other Thought About the "Real" Virginia
October 19, 2008 6:22 AM
One other thought about McCain adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer's assertion Saturday that Northern Virginia isn't the "real" Virginia.
Um...isn't the Pentagon in Northern Virginia?
Didn't 184 people die there on 9/11 at the hands of terrorists?

My question is: will a vote from someone in 'real virginia' count more than a vote from someone in 'fake Virginia'? And, can we get the press to do a 'penetrating investigation' into these supposed voters in 'fake virginia' to determine which ones are against America? Who's running the GOP these days, Josef Goebbels?

Can you believe how rich McCain is? More and more seems to get out everyday. His Mama is an oil heiress. She buys cars the way we buy candy bars. How in the world does this phoney get off telling working people what its like to try to make a living. Does he have the slighest clue how it feels when you can't give your kids what they need? Like a trip to the doctor? And don't dare tell me that the people who can't do that don't work. My father worked two jobs until he was almost 80. But there is one thing he had in abundance. Honor. And McCain doesn't have a shred of it left.

Yup. The Pentagon - most of the people who died there, most of Congress and lots and lots and lots of military families. The Palins just don't get out much. I understood her comments about Europe - but gee, if they can afford three houses, three boats, a plane, and many many snowmobiles, it seems like they could take the kids on a trip to the nation's capital. But maybe that is not what you do when Daddy is a secessionist.
Tucker Eskew, who tried to destroy John McCain and his family in 2000, and now works for McCain lives in northern Virginia too. John and Cindy also have a house there - one of seven? Or eight?

Linda - Hey don't go after Belle Star. She's been planted here for months, pretending to be a Hillary supporter. Now she's pretending to be a Nader supporter while she spouts Limbaugh attacks on Obama that are always unfounded and sometimes downright hilarious. Every site needs its plant. Did she say whe was from Virginia this time?

Hey, so called Belle Starr, I'm a real Shirley, a real Lee, a person of Virginia heritage and not un-American because I am voting for Obama. I am voting for him and Biden because they are SMART and we've had enough of intellectually vacuous spoiled brats who send other people's children off to war so they can line their trust fund pockets while in office. Do you feel you are safer or better off now than you were before the little git-off-the old-block got into office? Then vote for the old man who has pandered to the far far right just to get a base. But if you'd like to see this country pull together and become the great power it was meant to be once again, guided by intelligence and reverence for the Constitution, vote for Obama.

And I believe it was New York City, East Coast headquarters of fake America, that was also attacked on 9/11.
Maybe this explains why the Republicans never caught Osama bin Laden. They didn't really believe America had been attacked!

The problem is that all the parts of America are "real" in somebody's perspective. We can pit these "realities" against each other or we can get them to work together.
Acknowleding and leveraging the diversity of the country is part of its strength should be at the center of a successful presidential candidate's campaign.
On an unrelated note, wasn't the part of Virginia in question part of the original DC cession that was ceded back to VA due to slavery issues in the capital?

Look,
i'm a life-long virginian who has lived in several parts of the state. For 23 years I lived in the southeastern part of the state. Half of that time I lived near the Norfolk naval base and the other half I lived 9 miles from the north carolina line.
Both of these cities I'm referring to voted for Kerry and also voted for our current democratic governor Tim Kaine.
It's true that the northern part of the state (metro DC area) is more democratic, but Loudon county, only one county away from West Virginia has also been voting democratic. So to have areas from the most northern part of the state to the most southern go democratic means the state (much of the state) is going that way. Period. It's a demographic fact. Ms. P for McCain doesn't know what she's talking about, and neither do any of you trying to defend her.

I find it rather humorous (and maybe a little sad) that in an effort to identify with us common folk, the common, "Joes" as it were, the McCain campaign is impugning the entire community where the spokesperson and the candidate himself live and is headquartered.
To wit, Ms. Pfotenhauer lives in Oakton, VA (which is in Northern Virginia, not the "real" Virginia). McCain owns a 3-bedroom condo in Arlington, VA (which is also in Northern Virginia, not the "real" Virginia) and his campaign headquarters is in Mclean, VA (still in Northern Virginia, last I checked).
If this is such a "huge" issue for the campaign, why don't they move their operations to Richmond, or to Winchester, or Blacksburg, down to where us common folks live and not near that big, ole scary and godlessly liberal Washington, D.C. Booooo!!! Then again, the areas where they live have a larger per capita income as compared with the rest of the state.
Hmmmm.... Maybe they just say they want to identify with us commoners while still "palling around" with the wealthy.... Hypocrisy anyone?

That's why they're losing.
Obama unites the country and McCain is pitting one against the other.
after 8 years of have "the DECIDER"
WE want "the UNITER"!

Real Virginia is to Northern Virginia as Upstate NY is to NYC. I know, because I've lived in both places. I'm happily a member of the former in either case.

Jake, as you know, the Pentagon is merely a military post occupied by the winners of the War of Northern Aggression. As soon as they are repelled, many of our former pieces of property will happily return to our homes and fileds in "real" Virginia.
That's what Nancy of the McCain campaign meant to say.

The only constants of the McCain campaign have been wacky behavior, comments in poor taste, and a general utter lack of class.
They expect voters to put them in the White House? These people are so inept and classless they don't even deserve to be allowed on a White House tour.

seems to me...
- it is the minority lunatic fringe of the right wing that 'knows' where and who the 'real americans' are... they also seems to have access to the 'real god'..... crazed wild eyed Bachmen wants the government investigated for 'ant-'american activities and beliefs.....
If there was ever a real life example of Orwell's 'Big Brother' it is the Republican party.

Barack Obama raised $150m this month!
Enough to take on McCain and his slime machine!

This shows just how much people want Republicans out of power and the White House.

Yes, but, according to Pfotenhauer's logic, they weren't "real" people. So much for the "Straight Talk Express," which has apparently been derailed

"General Powell seems to realize that there has been a fascist shift in America and it must be reversed if the Republic is to survive."
-----
Powell was perfectly happy to empower the "fascist shift" by doing Bush's dirty work at the UN. That he now allies himself with the NEXT figurehead is nooo surprise.
It's difficult to think of ANYbody's vote being changed by this pliable has-been.

Im glad someone mentioned Bachmann.I was also glad ,that in one hour after her comments, over $30.000 was donated to her opponent.

It IS -- but that fact goes AGAINST your argument. "Real" southerners -- by bloodlines and culture -- STILL aren't crazy about the US government, believe it or not.

Jake, get over it.
Obama's people said that Gary, Indiana (in fact all of Lake County) was not like Indiana, but rather actually more a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. All their media comes from chicago and demographically, it's more like Chicago because people who work in Chicago have commuted farther and farther and actuallly live in NW Indiana. Indiana has been typicaly republican in all other areas of the state.
So where's your story on that? Neither one is a story, because both correctly identify an assertion that a piece of a state is not politically like the rest of the state.
