Palin on the Pending Crises ‘President Obama’ May Face
October 21, 2008 1:53 PM
In Reno, Nev., today, Governor Sarah Palin attacked both Sens. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and his running mate Joe Biden, D-Del., for Biden's remarks the other night. (More on those remarks HERE.)
"First, did you hear what Sen. Biden said at a fundraiser on Sunday?" Palin said. "He guaranteed that if Barack Obama is elected, we will face an international crisis within the first six months of their administration. He told -- he told his Democrat donors to mark his words –- that there were 'at least four or five scenarios' that would place our country at risk in an Obama administration. I guess we got to say, 'well, thanks for the warning, Joe!'"
Palin noted that Biden "didn’t specify what those four or five scenarios will be, but for clues, let’s review the Obama foreign policy agenda to find out what maybe this would be. So, our opponent wants to sit down with the world’s worst dictators. With no preconditions, he's proposing to meet with a regime in Tehran that vows to wipe Israel off the Earth. Now, let’s call that crisis scenario number one.
"Now, Sen. Obama proposing too having advocated sending our U.S. military into Pakistan without the approval of the Pakistani government. Invading the sovereign territory of a troubled partner in the war against terrorism. We gotta call that scenario number two. OK, then. He opposed the surge strategy that has finally brought victory in Iraq within sights. Yes. Our opponent voted to cut off funding for our troops, leaving our young men and women at grave risk in the war zone. He wants to pull out, leaving some 25 million Iraqis at the mercy of an Iranian-supported Shiite extremist groups and al Qaeda in Iraq. By his own admission, this could mean our troops would have to go back to Iraq. That's crisis scenario number three. And then, after the Russian army invaded the nation of Georgia, Sen. Obama’s reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence -- the kind of response that would only encourage Russia's Putin to invade Ukraine next. That’s crisis scenario number four.
"But I guess the looming crisis that most worries the Obama campaign right now is Joe Biden’s next speaking engagement. Let’s call that crisis scenario number five."

Interesting comments by Sarah Palin. Fairly focused attacks, all in all. I personally don't like political attacks, but hey, if you have to, why not be organized. Still, I find that both Biden and Palin in a way sort of hurt both campaigns messages in a way. I don't know, I could be completely wrong, but I see them both doing hurtful things to their respective campaigns in their rush to expose flaws in the other campaign. These comments by Palin is sorta hypocritical, with the state of the world basically guarenteeing (i know i spelled that wrong) some sort of crisis for the next President. Then again, paying higher taxes being more patriotic......that one made me go silent when I heard it......Anyways, I suppose Palin could be an asset, but, like Biden, I see her as a bit of a hinderence (Dang, can't spell today). But, hey, that's just my opinion.

HOW COULD ANYONE PUT PALIN AND BRILLIANT IN THE SAME SENTENCE--wow that is what you call a real stretch of the imagination.

Palin is not aware that we're already in an international crises or two? Biden and Powell were simply stating the facts. The next president will have to hit the ground running.

The truth is Sarah Palin gets on the nerves of Obama with her rather folksy and brilliant campaigning.
This hurts Obama's degenerate supporters who are not such criticism of their idol and they lash out like rabid dogs like the clueless bunch they are.

Sarah Palin has been the most predictable pre-emptive strikee I've ever seen quoted! She has assailed everyone else with her own laundry list of sins. What the heck did she agree to this assignment for anyway - why is she so interested in getting her hands on the codes. I wouldn't trust her with them; she has been untrustworthy in Alaska, she has appealed to the nazis, if that's a clue to the caliber of these guys and their politics, and their Cabinet. It is a ridiculous notion that I hope we never have to entertain.

Every one of these are INACCURATE!
1.What is America's first line of missile interceptor defense that protects the entire United States?
49TH MISSILE DEFENSE BATTALION OF ALASKA NATIONAL GUARD
(AK isn't the only interceptor site...California is another site)
2. What is the only National Guard Unit on permanent active duty?
49TH MISSILE DEFENSE BATTALION OF ALASKA NATIONAL GUARD
(Only the Coast Guard...that's all it IS!! It's Water!!)
3. Who is Commander in Chief of the 49th Missile Defense Battalion of Alaska National Guard?
GOVENOR SARAH PALIN
(She is NOT the Commander in Chief and this comment actually insult WHO IS! She can only request the National guard in case of flood or avalanche or time of crisis, they've never been mobilized. Once the National Guard is in the air, they belong to the Federal Government, NOT HER! She's a liar).
4. What U.S. govenor is routinely briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security and counter terrorism?
GOVENOR SARAH PALIN, ALASKA
NOT! Only Alaskan information, NOT US counter terrorism...whomever wrote this is uninformed.
5. What U.S. govenor has a higher classified security rating that either candidate of the Democrat Party?
GOVENOR SARAH PALIN, ALASKA
NOT and learn to spell Governor...it has and "R" in it and is capitalized.

The liberal media insults the American people with their bias reporting. They have attempted to "redefine" and defame
Govenor Sarah Palin...to create a perception that is an absolute fallacy...to push Obama and their liberal agenda.
We are not buying it.......

If Palin were to face an international crisis, I'm pretty sure she'd ruffle some feathers.

As Palins distorted mind grinds on looking for the kind of trash her constituents seem to think has merit, she is simply digging a deeper hole for McCain to try to climb out of.

"Can you point out in the Constitution where it states the Vice-President can 'get in there and make some good policy changes'?"
The U. S. Constitution gives both the Executive and Legislative branches a share in the making of foreign policy. They each play important roles that are different but some roles overlap. The Executive Branch can make foreign policy through: Responses to foreign events; Proposals for legislation; Negotiation of international agreements; Policy statements; Policy implementation; and Independent action. The Legislative Branch can make foreign policy through: Resolutions and policy statements; Legislative directives; Legislative pressure; Legislative restrictions and/or denying funds; Informal advice; Congressional oversight.
With respect to the Executive Branch, it depends on the president as to how much influence the vice president will have. There have been vice presidents who have been deeply involved in formulating policy. There have also been other vice presidents who had no influence at all.
So to make a blanket statement that the vice president has absolutely no role in making policy is wrong. We don't know what agreement that Sen. McCain has made with Gov. Palin. He may have already promised her extensive influence in making policy should they win the election.

Ryan C,
Try to keep up. (Actually, you know perfectly well that you are twisting things, most likely, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.) You say it was Rick Davis who claimed McCain blew things up on the bailout. Go back and look at the interview. One problem with reading a transcript is capturing tone. (If Ryan C posts "I think Joe BIden is brilliant," I would assume he was serious. If Concerned in Ohio wrote the same sentence, I would assume she was being sarcastic.) It was widely reported that Harry Reid proclaimed that McCain "blew up" the negotiations. Davis was asked about this, and in his answer, he mirrored the language. He was basically saying, to paraphrase, "if by blew it up, you mean he came in and stopped them from giving goodies to ACORN and if by blew it up, you mean he called them on the fact that they were ignoring a key group who needed to be included in negotiations, i.e., house republicans, then heck yeah he blew it up. If you mean that he came in and screwed things up so that a good plan fell apart, then no, he didn't blow it up. " I would say Mr. Davis was correct.j What Rick David did not do was to say in a serious tone that John McCain blew up the negotiations.

Ryan C,
I could take any numerous statements made by the Obama/Biden ticket (especially by Biden) and use it against them...oh let's see, maybe some of the things Biden has said recently...for example:
"He guaranteed that if Barack Obama is elected, we will face an international crisis within the first six months of their administration."
I think things that Biden has said has been much more damaging..like how paying higher taxes is more patriotic.
"Apparently denial ain't just a river in Egypt.
The lesson for the hour? Right wingers are delusional. "
That was a pretty bad joke & you can stop with the "lessons for the the hour". Because I wouldn't say all right wingers are delusional..

"Of COURSE Harry Reid claims that McCain blew things up-"
Rick Davis is the one who claimed McCain blew it up and week after the fact.
Posted by: Ryan C | Oct 21, 2008 6:55:02 PM
"Ryan C, do keep in mind that right wingers and Republicans and McCain supporters are not synonyms."
Yes, which is why I direct my comments towards right wingers.
I will occasionally jab at Republicans but that is more the party structure & office holders.
In terms of the remarks by Rick Davis, you can follow the previous posts.
Basically I was making the point that the McCain campaign handled the financial crisis quite badly, flip flopping positions, changing frames etc.
