Palin Parses
October 11, 2008 10:32 AM
When asked by a reporter today, "Governor, did you abuse your power?" Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said, "No, and if you read the report you'll see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member. You gotta read the report, sir."
It's true that there's nothing "unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member" in principle.
But the report is not as Gov. Palin is presenting it, in terms of ethics laws.
To wit:
"I find that Governor Sarah Palin Abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act...
"Compliance with the code of ethics is not optional...
"The evidence supports the conclusion that Governor Palin, at the least, engaged in 'official action' by her inaction if not her active participation or assistance to her husband in attempting to get Trooper Wooten fired [and there is evidence of her active participation.] She knowingly, as that term is defined in the above cited statutes, permitted Todd Palin to use the Governor’s office and the resources of the Governor’s office, including access to state employees, to continue to contact subordinate state employees in an effort to find some way to get Trooper Wooten fired. Her conduct violated AS 39.52.110(a) of the Ethics Act...
"Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda."
So who needs to read the report?

Tina---he didn't actually TASER the kid. The story is he used the TASER on the kid on the "test" setting---at the kid's request. The little boy wanted to show his cousin BRISTOL how tough he was and that he wasn't a "mama's boy". Was it bad judgement? Absolutely. But the test setting isn't a severe thing at all. You have to keep in mind that all these accusations were made years after they occured, when the Wootens were involved in a custody battle. That's why they didn't stick. And as for the moose incident----Wooten was hunting with his wife(Palin's sister). She had the permit and he didn't, and he shot the moose for her when she couldn't. Again, this came forward years later during the custody battle.

This trooper tasered a his ten year old son, the Palin's nephew. I hate to think what I would have done.

Remember Sarah's unequivocal "no one in my administration ever talked to Monegan"?
Disgusting and shameful. What a disappointment. The Palins have let a lot of people down.

Hey SC SUPERMAN, who cares if he is a muslim or not? Some of the nicest people I know are muslims. But even so, he is not a muslim and you are the only liar here. You lie when you say that his teachers claim he was a muslim. They have them on video being asked about him, and they didn't say he was muslim, and he didn't go to a muslim school. He went to a secular school that taught children of all faiths. In fact, until he became a christian he was pretty much non religious because his muslim father abandoned him when he was a small kid and he was raised by his white mother and later his white grandparents. They were not muslims either. So stop spreading lies and lets talk about the issues. Unless you realize the issues favor Obama 10 to 1...then I guess you can continue speaking lies, but looks like not enough people are buying it.

The McCain/Palin ticket is the first in American history in which both candidates were found to have violated ethics standards before a national election.

Some post appear to be far beyond the topic, the essence " But the report is not as Gov. Palin is presenting it, in terms of ethics laws." The report is from a process that predates Palin's current status, and was fully supported by her party, Republicans, in Alaska. So, what does this have to do with the campaign, Obama, the media or anything else?

HP Boston:
McSHAME USED TO have the respect. That was 2004, when he was actually seen as someone who occasionally went against the grain.
When he started running for President, back in 2005, that all changed. He has been an ardent supporter of President Bush.
And, of course, his behavior during this campaign has totally eroded any respect from all but his base of supporters. He is no longer worthy of that respect, and has proven that he does not wear the "Country First" mantle very well anymore either.
As a Vietnam Veteran, I was extremely disappointed with his failure to support the New GI Bill, as well as his desire to see us in Iraq for 100 years and to "bomb, bomb, bomb... Iran."
Back in 2004, I knew a number of veterans who thought putting him on Kerry's ticket might be a good bipartisa move. I don't believe many of them would hold the same view today!

William is what we call the "obvious problem identifier". The most annoying folks to be around - because they don't back it up with a solution.

Gosh Willie, do you think that's possibly because this thread is about Palins violations of ethics, abuse of power and failure to acknowledge any shortcomings?
Just speculating, Darnit All, Wink Wink Wink ;-)

Troopergate Inquiry finds Sarah Palin GUILTY.
Sarah Palin VIOLATED THE TRUST Alaskans placed in her and BROKE THE LAW as their governor when she fired a state official who had refused to dismiss her ex-brother-in-law from his job as a state trooper, according a legislative report released Friday night.
Ten republicans and four democrats were unanimous in adopting the findings (as they were in initiating the investigation.)

Re: "why should Sarah get lost when Obama, Barney frank and Chris Dodd won't?"
------------------------------------------
Perhaps because Obama etc. hasn't been found guilty of ethical violations and "abuse of power."
I say such flagrant abuse is a bad start for a possible president unless she's looking to repeat the absolute horrors of Cheney/Bush.
She's dragging your ticket into the gutter, in case you care.

Governor Sarah Palin is so unethical, she lies without blinking. Sarah doesn't have a conscious.
We've already had the ol' "Missin' a conscience..." for EIGHT LONG YEARS.

My God. She lies about an ethic's report. She is quickly becoming one of the worst people to ever hold public office of any kind. I have seen few people as corrupt and definitely not many as stupid.

What the heck was Todd Palin doing using the Govenor's office for their personal vendetta against Wooten? And she allowed it! This is the abuse of power. Her subordinates/aides couldn't say "no" to the First Dude.
Palin is Spiro Agnew in high heels. And now there are questions about just WHO built her half million dollar house on Lake Lucille. One hand washes the other in Alaska.

It's going to be interesting to see how the gov. is received when she goes back to finsh her term. She has lied and carried herself very disgustingly and the people of Alaska deserve better. Can she be impeached? I hope so because she totally deserves to be.
