Power Goes Out During Obama Rally in Reno
October 25, 2008 1:39 PM
Kind of an awkward moment just now at an Obama rally at William Peccole Park in Reno, Nevada.
Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., was midway through his stump speech before a crowd of roughly 11,000 Nevadans when suddenly the generator died and all power went out.
"We need policies that grow our economy --" Obama said, and then the microphone and sound system went quiet, and the crowd could no longer hear him.
The crowd chanted supportively -- "Oh-Bah-Mah! Oh-Bah-Ma!" and "Fix The Mike! Fix The Mike! -- while Obama asked aides just what was going on.
Told it would take five minutes to reboot the generator, Obama yelled to the crowd that the power would be back on momentarily.
He went down to talk to some people in the crowd, shake hands, and get a hug or two.
Then he was beckoned back on stage.
"Hello hello hello," he said into the mike, testing it.
It worked.
"I told you folks were having trouble making their electricity bills!" he joked.
"Either that or somebody from the McCain campaign kicked our plug out of the socket," he joked, laughing. "That was just a joke guys, there's no evidence of foul play.
"Now, where was I?" he asked, looking at the teleprompter that he has relied upon for months.
"Here's where I was: 'We need policies that grow our economy from the bottom-up," he said, re-launching into the speech.

I am frankly amazed at the abject and complete ignorance of most posters.
Tax cuts are not designed to pay for groceries, they are designed to create more revenue for the treasury.
Each and every time, taxes have been cut, that is...tax rates have been cut across the board, treasury revenues have increased. Kennedy, Reagan, and W.Bush. Liberals are too stupid to understand this.
Simple as that.
Liberals believe that it is fair, to give someone money that was taken from someone else.
It is moronic.

Maybe with better spending all of our taxes could go down.

I believe middle class is more like 50,000 to 100,000 a year. Not 250,000 a year. Yes I believe that middle class needs some breaks. People at 250,000 in my mind are not middle class. Though I would not label them rich, I would say they are well off. I don't see what would be wrong asking them to contribute a little more in taxes. What really is needed with that though is some fiscal responsibilty by all in government. Their lack of responsibilty is not republican or democrat. It is everyone involved. Everyone would be happier if they knew their taxes that they pay are being spent wisely and carefully.

John McCain's conscience :
All I asked of YOU, John, was an explanation of how trickle UP economy works.
I am totally curious, because it completely escapes my powers of imagination.
But then, I am neither a politician nor an economist.
Not only that, I'm in the middle class and heavens! I've still switched from Hillary to John McCain!

wench:
You don't want to know about ACORN because if you opened your MIND as wide as your internet MOUTH..... something factual might pop into it..... and Obamaniacs couldn't stand for that!
So not to worry; I understand.

You last post was a waste of your time. We, the middle class, need a break.
Barack Obama wants to give a tax break to the middle class. John McCain only cares about those making over $250,000.
Easy for me and the rest of the middle class to make that choice!
You can draw, paint, sing songs, and make sonnets about acorn. I hope John McCain does, since that would just bring him off-message.

Jwench,
I don't care about Acorn. A) They flag questionable registrations for the authorities. B) Mickey Mouse etc are not likely to show up at the voting booth. C) WHEN IS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY GOING TO ADDRESS THE FALLING REAL WAGES OF MIDDLE CLASS AMERICANS?
Check C for the thing I am interested in.

I don't care about it either. It's nothing but a distraction from the real issues.

Your comment made no sense. Obama has made it clear that he wants a tax break for the middle class (including 95% of working Americans) and that he supports a progressive tax structure.
John McCain supports a progressive tax code, while telling us that a progressive tax code is 'socialist' and bad because it 'redistributes the wealth'.
As Colin Powell pointed out EVERY TAX SYSTEM redistributes wealth! I John McCain against that?

'U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign paid more than $800,000 to an offshoot of the liberal Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now for services the Democrat’s campaign says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports.'
'subject, but one of the people he interviewed was not so gentle. In the article the RNC says:
“Barack Obama’s failure to accurately report his campaign’s financial records is an incredibly suspicious situation that appears to be an attempt to hide his campaign’s interaction with a left-wing organization previously convicted of voter fraud. For a candidate who claims to be practicing ‘new’ politics, his FEC reports look an awful lot like the ‘old-style’ Chicago politics of yesterday.”
'Then, after reading this statement from the story, I have to agree with the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics spokesperson who said this:
“It’s rare that people don’t file any amended reports.“
'In my opinion, you can’t accidentally type STAGE, LIGHTING AND SOUND when the bill from your vendor obviously says”Get-Out-The-Vote Organizing.”
"And then, on ten additional, separate occasions, make the same type of mistake on separate forms, followed by ADVANCE WORK entered when the bill says Get-Out-The-Vote Organizing or POLLING when the bill says 'Get-Out-The-Vote Organizing'."
"This, in my opinion, is noteworthy because it sounds like a pattern of lots and lots of amendments to the FEC reports."
"The Obama campaign can amend their reports all they want. But, had observers not discovered this obfuscation, then the lies would have continued to the end of the campaign, as they sprayed tens of millions of innocent donor dollars through various groups to fund the ACORN-Obama grass-roots campaign, under the radar of the press and public.
It does not matter so much who or how many may claim to have been “blind” to these activities. It is my opinion that the Obama campaign knew they were misleading the public and that they have no intention of offering transparency unless pressed and challenged. And I challenge all seekers of justice to continue to challenge him every day."

JG,
Huge tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans (the ones that McCain REJECTED before deciding it was a necesary condition for his ambition) can potentially hurt the budget more than spending.
Obama and McCain have promised new spending but McCain's deficit projection looks worse than Obama's simply because of his FREE MONEY policies towards corporations, upper bracket tax payers (and his future war with Russia -- oops that is off budget, I forgot).
In any case, we have to decide what are the nation's top priorities (I wouldn't mind an end to the corn-ethanol subsidy) and use our resources to get there.
For example, if you want to move to renewable, American sources of energy, this will require investing in research and tax breaks, maybe even subsidies.
John F Kennedy sent men to the moon. But an Apollo like project costs money.

One thing all of you lefties and paid Obama commenters are ignoring:
It is impossible to build up a New New Deal (1 trillion in new social spending and welfare checks called "tax credits) on the backs of the top 5% only. There simply is not enough money.
One of three results:
1. The Dollar collapses because of a trillion dollar a year deficit and we have hyperinflation, destroying the economy for a decade.
2. Obama gets a clue and decides not to spend money America does not have (unlikely)
3. Obama pushes his definition of "rich" downward until he has enough funds to play societal recreator.
Truth hurts, lefties.

Excellent post. If I was making that amount of money, I wouldn't have a problem paying more.
I would like just one year at that income. I wouldn't mind paying more either, I would still have enough left to live very comfortably
Posted by: A Veteran | Oct 25, 2008 4:12:48 PM
I don't even make half of that. I would love a year of that too.
They talk about patriotism and being more american than some, but yet they don't want to give back to the country with a few extra dollars. They don't mind that we, the middle class have been struggling for years.

How you know Obama is a hypocrit:
Obama has NOT proposed a flat tax plan!

I note that none of the diehard lefties on here are disputing the outright lie that Biden told - the campaign never paid ACORN anything. Outright lie.
ACORN literature clearly states that CSI is "ACORN's campaign arm"
Get your facts straight, lefties.

HOW YOU KNOW that John McCain is a hypocrite:
John McCain has NOT proposed a flat tax plan.
It therefore follows that he supports some variation to the current wealthy person pays a higher tax rate policy.
ALSO, HE TRASHED the Bush tax cut and voted against it. Yet somehow going back to the pre-Bush tax rates (WHICH HE VOTED TO KEEP) is 'redistributing wealth'.
"I cannot in good conscience support a tax cut in which so many of the benefits go to the most fortunate among us at the expense of middle-class Americans who need tax relief."--John McCain, May 2001
