The Great Debate
October 07, 2008 8:39 PM
NASHVILLE, TENN. -- We're here at Curb Arena at Belmont University for the second presidential debate.
Right now the dudes from the Commission on Presidential Debates are talking.
Meanwhile, an e-mail comes across my screen:
Markets are open in Asia ... and it looks like the sour trading day in the Americas has rolled across the Pacific.
Japan: Down 2.67%
Australia: Down 4.06%
New Zealand: Down 2.03%
Korea: Down 2.72%

McCain is so out of touch with the realities of the average American family that it is truly frightening. Just the idea of a spending freeze makes my shudder. And his idea of just giving people money for insurance is completely out of touch. That money does you no good if you can't get coverage because of a pre-existing condition - and we arent' talking about cancer. I was turned down simply because I'd been on anti-depressants for six months following my father's death.
Personally, I don't want politicians with experience any more. It was never suppose to be a career - it was suppose to be real people serving their country for a sort time and then returning to their real lives.
Obama was a community organizer and a civil rights attorney. Instead of going to some high dollar law firm, he worked with American families in crises. This is the type of man I want running our country. Not someone that has no idea how many houses he owns.

Did you know Obama diverted $50-100M away from a goal to improve the education of poor children to give it to Acorn and Ayers instead?
There is nothing known about how Acorn and Ayers spent the money, there were no strings attached.
Neither Obama, nor Acorn, nor Ayers will talk about this transfer of money other than to say what Obama did was "legal" given Obama had the sole authority and responsibility.
If Obama will do this with grant money, just think what he can do with the US Treasury.
In the first version of the $700Billion bailout, someone tried to give a portion of it to Acorn. It was removed from the final version.

Per the link provided:
"Singlaub said McCain was a supporter but not an active member.
"McCain was a new guy on the block learning the ropes," Singlaub said. "I think I met him in the Washington area when he was just a new congressman. We had McCain on the board to make him feel like he wasn't left out. It looks good to have names on a letterhead who are well-known and appreciated.
"I don't recall talking to McCain at all on the work of the group," Singlaub said.
McCain has said he resigned from the council in 1984 and asked in 1986 to have his name removed from the group's letterhead.
"I didn't know whether (the group's activity) was legal or illegal, but I didn't think I wanted to be associated with them," McCain said in a 1986 newspaper interview."
So, JM was NOT an active member and was NOT told what was happening.
Just another Obama attack with no basis to try to offset the fact Obama gave $50-100M to Acorn and Ayers.

McCain for President! Obama is a socialist. Look up the definition. This country was not created as a democracy. It was created as a republic. How many of you know our Constitution? If Obama becomes president , our country will fall people. Sorry. Been around long enough to know.

Obama was given $50-100M to improve the education of students in Chicago. Who did he give the money to and what was the result?
He gave the money to Acorn and Ayers.
The effect on education?
Zip. Nada. Nothing.
Except Acorn and Ayers have supported Obama ever since.

Today, US corporations have the 2nd highest tax rate in the world. The high tax rate in the US has the effect of encouraging companies to export our jobs to other countries.
Obama would greatly increase taxes on successful companies and will add additional tax penalties for companies that are "caught" exporting jobs.
Therefor it will be in companies best interest to add new jobs and new plants overseas and existing jobs will not be "exported" but be allowed to wither away.
Foreign as well as domestic companies will be discouraged from setting up new manufacturing in the US.
Lowering tax rates for corporations will allow more US companies to be successful with tax revenues often rising more than any "tax break" loss of revenue.

Sue Ellen you do not have all of the facts correct. Someone who has waited till they are 40 to try and get health insurance more than likely has a need beyond what is considered in basic underwriting. Coverage can more than likely be obtained but it could have some preexisting conditions exclusions which would be correct for someone who has never paid into the insurance market and more than likely will be looked at as trying to use the insurance market in a adverse manner. Allowed to buy coverage would or could have a negative effect on everyone else who would end up paying more

McCain seemed bitter that he had to debate at all. Perhpas he would rather be king.

I'm greatly disappointed by our two canidates, and I would really like to NOT vote for either of them, but sadly one of these two canidates are going to be our next President, so with great regret, I will fulfil my duty as a citizen of the the U.S.A and vote for one of them. I do hope though that our next election in 4 years, produces better canidates that I can trust and be proud of.

I believe Mr Obama won this event. Mr McCain still fails to stand up with his parties failures of the past 8 years. We don't want more of that! Then he argues Mr Obama has no experience and doesn't know what he is talking about, which is exactly what we are worrying about with Mrs Palin especially as next in line for the presidency behind an elderly president. Obama is comfortable with this style of addressing the public and appeared more presidential to me. Mr McCain has that strange smile that is sometimes insincere and much like the Bush grin we are all too happy to see leave soon.

Our nation was partly founded on taxation without representation, now it seems to be taxation with representation. Why does the common person, who pays most of the taxes, has to pay for the mistakes our government makes in spending and all the special projects that line the pockets of congressmen and the Whitehouse.

What don't you know???...Mc Cain answered this extremely well. Like a true leader.
If Barack mentions Michelle one more time ...First she was the wisest person he knows then she knows what I don't know...she should be running not him.

I work at a nursing home and I would like to know what you are going to do with the long term care for are elderly. There is more money for are hospitols toget them well soon. Do you care about are elderly or do you think once they are put in a nursing home we should forget all about them because they will die sooner or later.

I would agree that McCain has won the debate. Obama is a great speaker -- but there is nothing of substance in anything that he states. He is the definition of the "spin". The question asked was -- would you support Israel or wait for the UN. McCain answered with what he would do. Obama did not --he discussed the use of tools, leveraging assets, Iran and nukes and ect. He never aswered the question. This is where I struggle w/ him.
In addition, for a man that positions himself as the catalyst for change ... someone needs to look at his 3 mil assistance for the projector. Pretty difficult sell on this one ... really does not support the "change" ideology or the ability to apply reason.
Also, if you listen to his answer to -- what do you not know and how will you learn it -- he did not answer that one either. He gave the BIGGEST political stock answer that was coached.

Posting anti views as different people doesnt convince anyone that alot of people believe the same. Intelligent people know who is the best choice for America. Obama/Biden Time!

Sorry, you people really don't know much about the health care industry! Insurance companies pick and choose who to insure and what price they will ask you to pay. If you have ANY preexisting condition, you are rejected. You young readers, wait until you hit 40 and try to get insurance once they see you once played football or broke your leg skiing. You will defend the industry until you hit that brick wall!!!!

I give McCain 30% to Obama 70%. This race is over. Obama will be the next president of the United States. We republcan lost realty and need to re-group for 2012. I hope next time we are smarter and pick better candidates to represents us the GOP. Sarah Palin, is just to a good candidate..Is that the bedt we can do????Then shame on US AMERCANS. I WILL GLADLY CAST MY VOTE FOR OBAMA.

Obama is absolute wrong on health care. He proves his entire lack of how the industry is regulated. Health Insurance companies are regulated at the state level and include any coverage which is required by either the state or the federal government. In most case they provide much more than what is spelled out by law. They can hide in any fashion by moving from one state to another. More hot hot air which a lot of people will accept from the pulpit.

Obama's health care plan will bankrupt America...and then, he wants to place fines on parents that can't afford insurance for their children...is this guy nuts?

I am so sorry. McCain again lost this debate. I just dont undestand what are they are doing to this man. He looked and acted old. Barck Obama looked very presidential and responded well to the questions. I am an independent voter and tonight I dont need no further proof. I will vote for the best ticket Obama/Biden.
