The Obama Half Hour Variety Show
October 29, 2008 12:56 PM
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., attacks the ad as a premature self-coronation; Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., prepares to be live from Sunrise, Fla.
Our "GMA" report here:
Meanwhile, ABC -- which is not airing the ad -- tells viewers to watch "Pushing Daisies" instead.
"Wednesday, America, you have a choice," an ABC TV ad says. "Get political with the other networks, or enjoy the Emmy-winning drama full of surprising revelations: ABC's 'Pushing Daisies.'"
"As swipes go, it's a pretty light-hearted one," writes Talking Points Memo's Greg Sargent. "But telling viewers dismissively not to watch one of the two candidates make his case less than a week before the election seems like a pretty dodgy place for a network to go."

I'm voting for McCain. I have sons that have more experience than Obama. They go to church too !

sickened: I can see you are using ALL CAPS so I guess whatever you say must be true. Um...
AN ANSIDE:
Saying Nobama to Obama is the smartest thing ABC has done since giving the green light to Lost (best show ever). IMHO, of course.

Sickened,
Actually, I was in the first Gulf War in the USMC.
And yes.. I worked my REAR off while in the Corp to get my Degree and when I got out of the Corp, I worked my REAR off to Continue my Education, and NOW, I work my REAR off making a VERY DAMNED good SALARY!
KIND of what I would like to see the REST of AMERICA DO. WORK FOR YOUR OWN and LEAVE MINE ALONE!
You want to SHARE YOUR WEALTH?? Go for it. LEAVE MINE ALONE!
YES, the AMERICAN DREAM. Everyone would love to live it. JUST Remember, you have to WAKE THE HELL UP sometime to WORK TO MAKE IT COME TRUE!

"Maybe the Democrats should have done a little more study on the INTEL."
Its the Democrats fault that Bush falsified intelligence?
Are you saying they should have known better than to trust Bush?

I think it's great, especially after a week of attacks from McCain that Obama's a socialist.
This will allow people to see Obama as he really is, not as some boogeyman out to get you.

IF YOU DENY THAT IRAQ WAS THE "DECIDER'S" WAR (COMMENDER AND CHIEF AND ALL). YOU MAY AS WELL DENY YOUR EXISTENCE.

Wow. I seem to remember when there was an inexperienced, draft dodging, coke snorting, unintelligent guy from TX running 8 years ago. Seems like all his supporters are now turning the same fire and brimstone on BO. Ironic how the tables turn. I also find the resistance to change in this country ironic. With things so bad, why are people afraid of change? If the economy was great, we werent in a war and everything was happy-fun, I could understand the resistance to change. The only way I can explain this is thinly veiled racism...

OBAMA WAS AGAINST THE WAR.
HAVE YOU SIGNED UP FOR IRAQ YET OR ARE YOU TO BUSY GETTING GETTING RICH OFF BUSHIE POLICIES?

Sickened,
Funny that 4 years Later, the Dems couldn't get enough votes to throw this "unqualified neandrathol" out of office.
Also, I love how Bush Started the entire Irag war alone. There were enough Democrats IN CONGRESS that could have come close to STOPPING IT, if they had got off their rears and DID NOT vote to SUPPORT IT!
OH, and Biden was one them!
PLUS, before the "Oh, he lied" crap. Maybe the Democrats should have done a little more study on the INTEL. BUT, they did nothing, except support it.

"Just tell us when Fox springs the Michelle tape. Axelrod tried to bribe API with $3 million."
ROFLMAO.
How many times are you going to have API lie to you and believe it?
Even FoxNews categorically denies they have spoken with API.
Geez right wingers are gullible.

Left off is the part where ABC, noted both AP and WaPo, asked for the ad only a couple days ago, and the Obama camp said 'too late, the funds have been allocated elsewhere.'
So now ABC is in the uncomfortable spot it tried to avoid at the last minute.
"Pushing Daisies" will lose its mostly Obama voting audience for the first half hour that it would have had if ABC accepted the ad when first proposed.
Ad rates will have to be adjusted for the drop.
That million bucks Obama was handing out would have been much nicer.

it sounds like Tourette's syndrome, "socialism", America...every speech its the same vocal tic...
So, anyway...I think the half hour spot is great...I thought the Clinton campaign was one of the best I had ever seen...before that I thought Reagan ran a good campaign...Barack moved like a point guard bringing the ball up court at the end of a close game...a winning game...but close lol. its the other team desperate to get the ball. the 30 minute spot is great use of the clock to run the game down...good move.
Finally, while candidates from either side surround themselves with retired whatever and show us their support on cable and HD news channels...where are the young people...those college students that worked their butts off...where is everyday nobody that worked those phone lines, sold those lawn signs and t-shirts, where is America...its about those thousands that show up at these events...its about you America hehehehheh

sickened. I could say Clinton did this wrong and Carter did that wrong. That is if I wanted to waste my time since neither of them, nor Bush, are on the ballot last time I checked.

TV TONIGHT HIGHLIGHTS:
8:00 PUSHING DAISIES (ABC)- A mysterious man shows up at the diner and claims to be an old friend of Ned's father.
8:00 BARAK LIVE! (CBS, FOX, NBC) - A mysterious, inexperienced, first term Senator shows up in a TV studio and claims to be qualified to lead the free world. He also requests that Ned's father skip work on Tuesday.
Hmmm, both shows sound a little over-the-top to me. Only in Hollywood, as they like to say...

The problem is, you can't believe ANYTHING that ANY "news" channel says anymore.

Minnie of course leaves out a key passage in the story
"Later, U.N. inspectors documented and safeguarded the yellowcake, which had been stored in aging drums and containers since before the 1991 Gulf War. There was no evidence of any yellowcake dating from after 1991, the official said."

I guess it depends on what Obama does during his show as to whether its a mistake or not. I mean he had to spend all the money on something after all. The problem is, the only people watching it will be Obama supporters. Seems to me its just a televised rally, which brings his supporteres, not the other guy's. It will probably get good ratings, since there won't be much else on just like his rallies, but I just can't see people who are undecided or for McCain bothering to spend time watching. Most of us will be busy as usual paying bills, feeding kids, helping with homework, ferrying kids here n there, etc.
Posted by: Deb | Oct 29, 2008 2:05:43 PM
I doubt any one will be watching Obama as those who like his views already know them and those who dislike his views will certainly not watch. A long day for most working Americans and then coming home to watch more on the candidates is more than most can take. I find it ironic that Pushing Daises is on ABC....something very funny about that.
Of course the die hards will be watching and drooling over every word. He will save us...yaeah, the tidy bowl man has a better chance of saving us, there ain't goin gto be any $$$ left in our economy to do the frand programs BO has pledged. If anyone thinks they are getting universal healthcare...hope you won't be too disappointed.
Also any one have a problem with this 30 minute ad and the big party ...that the money from the Benjamins(those who gave 5 bucks( is being spent this way??
Makes me very uncomfortable.
