The Obama-mercial

October 29, 2008 8:03 AM

Tonight on Fox, NBC, CBS, Univision, MSNBC, BET and elsewhere (but not ABC -- feel free to check out the new season of "Pushing Daisies"!), Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., will air the first presidential candidate 30-minute infomercial ever since H. Ross Perot took to the airwaves with his famous charts in 1992.

Sources tell ABC News that the flag-festooned 30 minutes will show Obama sitting around a white kitchen table with four people/families he's met in the last 21 months of his campaign, each illustrating an economic challenge the nation is facing. He'll also share his personal story about his mother's death from ovarian cancer, how she spent her last days arguing with her insurance company about whether or not her cancer was a "pre-existing condition," a story he often tells on the campaign trail.

Other more prominent Americans will appear to "validate" Obama -- like Gen. Colin Powell (Ret.), for instance, though I have no idea if Powell is actually in the film.

At the end, Obama will appear live from Sunrise, Fla., to speak directly to the American people from a rally.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has launched a TV ad to pre-emptively attack Obama's ad.

"Behind the fancy speeches, grand promises and TV special, lies the truth," the narrator says. "With crises at home and abroad, Barack Obama lacks the experience America needs."

Obama, for his part, is also running an ad to attack McCain, attempting to use his own words, and his own running mate, against him.

Among the quotes: “I’m going to be honest: I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues.  I still need to be educated" and “The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should" and “I might have to rely on a vice president that I select” for expertise on economic issues ... cut to image of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Six days left. Tick tock, tick tock.

The world will begin to change only when you are ready to pronounce this oath:
I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for the sake of mine.

Mr. Obama is a Marxist. It shows in his off-the-cuff statements, and in the people with whom and in the policies with which he has surrounded himself for years.

The “wealthy” of this nation (who by the way are also the producers of most of our goods, services and jobs) will remain “wealthy” precisely because they will continue to do the things that made them wealthy in the first place. They will find ways to protect their assets from the draconian tax policies of an Obama Administration. If this calls for such measures as cutting jobs in order to keep their businesses financially healthy, they will do so. They will have to.

From whom then will the Obama Administration extract the necessary taxes with which to pay for their social engineering? The floor for their tax hike has already dropped from $250k to $200k (Mr. Obama said both of these figures in the last debate), to now $150k, per Mr. Biden. Gaffe? Or “foaming the runway”?

You are next. I am next. We all are. Believe it. Protect your assets now.

When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.
– Ben Franklin

Obama is running his campaign like a cult. He is frightening. Please ABC look in to his past -- that which they are trying to hide. Why? Don't follow the others -- report the news!! Try not to make it look like you to have "drank the kool-aid".

Too many flash bulbs in the McCain ad. It's really distracting.

Looking forward to Obama's ad tonight. He is a phenomenon.

I think it will be more than 16 years before we something like this again.

Six months ago I was so pleased, thinking that for the first time in my life, I would have a chance to choose between two candidates; McCain and Obama that I genuinely liked and respected - rather than always trying to choose between the lesser of two evils, as in the past.

Since then, both men have disappointed me more than once, and I have gotten somewhat discouraged, but I want to believe that both are good men and are coming from a place of principle. I disagree with both men on a host of issues, but what else is new.

I am still undecided, but I am leaning toward Obama, because I think he has done a better job (as statesman) of resisting the lunatic fringe of his party.

I think McCain has lost his way, and his campaign has been hijacked by the GOP (read Christian Right.) The John McCain of 2000 would have been their only hope at this time, but they want nothing to do with that man, so they destroyed him (again.)

I just finished reading this entire discussion and frankly, it scares the hell out of me. You guys need to all move much more to the center; we are in serious trouble, and whoever wins is going to need all the support they can get just to keep this ship afloat.

I do think Obama and the democrats are going to get an unprecedented mandate, and that scares me too. There is no denying Obama's Rock Star Status and the opportunity for power that is going to afford him; he's going to need it, but that scares me too.

I hope Obama uses his power judiciously, and I have a suggestion: put Ron Paul in your cabinet. He is the only presidential candidate who saw ALL of this economic mess coming (it's a matter of record,) though I am sure he is as shocked as everyone else at the speed of the meltdown once the tipping point was reached.

Ron Paul's a brilliant guy with practically zero charisma who nevertheless managed to create some excitement of his own with younger and first time voters on the strength of his ideas alone.

I don't agree with all of Ron Paul's positions either, but he can give Obama a unique perspective based upon the Austrian School of Economics which is radically different than the one being whispered in his ear. This would help balance Obama's perspective, and it is exactly the kind of brilliant leadership we so desperately need.

Obama DOES represent hope for change and a better future, and we DON'T know him, but we will...

" The top 5% of income earners in this Country are receiving the vast majority of the benefit on these misguided Bush tax cuts. What about the lower and middle class? Where is their tax cut?' - John McCain, 2001

How could anyone ever trust this clown?

Obama's own 30 minute commercial...what person in their right mind wants to watch a 30 minute commercial? And geesh, what an ego on Obama to delay the game so we are force to listen to his idiot.

You're so concerned with keeping your guns, but where are you going to be able to use them? The only place that's going to be left when McCain/Palin are done is the local gun range.

Palin is ready to destroy a salmon spawning ground to make a few more bucks for Alaska.

The McCain/Palin ticket is an environmental disaster, waiting to happen. If they get elected, you can use your gun to shoot yourself in the other foot, because you'll already have shot yourself in the foot.

United we stand, divided we fall. Remember???

For the last eight years I have heard nothing but pleas and begging from people to have government work in a bipartisan way. To reach across the isle, to all get along and respect each other.

Liberals have shouted for eight years that their views are just as patriotic and they have a right to their thoughts and speech. They have pleaded for respect and vowed to show it in return.

Now that it looks like Obama is going to win, I see these liberals giving the other party the finger.

That is not helpful to this nation, not one bit.

Where is your urgency to reach across the isle? To all get along? To respect one another?

I see. Since they didn't show you any, you have a right to payback.

Not good for a nation at all. You thought you were divided after the '04 election? Look again. This is nothing like the '04 election.

I am still undecided as to who to vote for. Spare me the rhetoric, I've heard it all. I want what is best for the nation as a whole, not a particular party.

I hate to get off subject....but this whole CO2 is causing global warming is nonsense. It's not and there is no scientific evidence to back up this BS....the planet has cycles of cool and warmer climates----------UNFORUNATELY, AND MARK MY WORDS-----------THIS YEAR IS THE BEGINNING OF A COOLING PERIOD...LONG, COLD WINTER AHEAD. Cooler climates are harder to live in, so watch out.

If anyone actually thinks that they are going to see something honest in Obama's 30-minute informercial, I've got some beachfront property to sell them in Des Moines, Iowa! Obama and his leftist campaign staff have crafted another message that will tell us how he is the savior of our country and John McCain is evil. Been there; done that.

Google :

"An examination of Obama's use of hidden HYPNOSIS techniques in his speeches "

It's a compelling 67 page report.

Some people are more susceptible to it...may explain the 'Obama Zombie' syndrome .

Oh My God!! Mrs Obama had a Lobster Lunch! That changes my vote. Give me a break. Im going to Red Lobster because that sounds good. Can you believe that they are trying to sway votes because of a possible Lobster lunch? Also it has been addressed that the room service bill all over the internet is a scam and a false smear. The Rep better start caring about what is important. No wonder they are loosing.

Hey lost democracy,

You can thank the monkey in the oval office for the loss of democracy. What in God's name has he done to better this country or it's citizens? And don't say He's made us safe. He has made us more unsafe.

Posted by: John McCain is a liar. | Oct 29, 2008 3:29:27 PM

Thats right Reps. Just close your eyes and put your hands over your ears tonight and maybe it will all go away. If McCain was doing the same thing I would want to hear what the possible next President has on mind, but you Reps are party first and Country second. Guess what. It wont go away as you will see Nov 4th.

Posted by: CW | Oct 29, 2008 3:27:37 PM

Yea Davis and Palin is a rocket scientist.

As a CANADIAN. You should start listening to us. We see outside the box.
Vote OBAMA, or end up suffering some more. Get some gun laws folks. At the moment, you look pathetic as a nation divided. Time to start owning up to your mistakes

As a Canadian, you don't have a dog in this hunt. As for gun laws, don't think we want to have gun laws like Canada, thank you very much.

In Va. Flyers have been hung and handed out telling Dems that they are supposed to vote on Wed and only Rep can vote on Tues. A mandate from Va. is being put out to address the situation and those responsible are being sought. Cant the republicans ever win something fair and square? Same way they run the country with deception.
