Troopergate Report Concludes Palin Abused Power
October 10, 2008 8:52 PM
Supporters of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin say it's all just politics cooked up to hurt her, but the special legislative panel convened to investigate whether Palin unlawfully abused her authority in firing the state's public safety commissioner, has issued its report, and the conclusion is she did.
The full 263-page report can be read HERE.
The AP reports that the bipartisan committee concluded that a family grudge wasn't the only reason Palin fired Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan, but was likely was a contributing factor.
Monegan has maintained that he was fired because he refused pressure by Palin to fire a state trooper, Mike Wooten, involved in a bitter divorce with her sister. Palin has called the investigation politically motivated and said she fired Monegan because of a budge dispute.
You can read more about the report HERE.

Keep dreaming Christie. The rallies she holds are heavily conservative. Even the republicans know that's all she appeals to now. You have me laughing at what the pope says though. And I'm a catholic.

"Geez, why did she fight so hard to block the investigation, then? "
Google "Troopergate" and read the misleading headlines. Then ask yourself the same question again. The Press has found her guilty, based on a meaningless report, released by a panel that has no authority to take further action.

Christie, no one except the base cares about Palin. Her negatives among independents have gone up. And they are the ones she needs to reach. Posted by D-------------------------
Really? I don't think so. The Pope has been outfront saying that the democratic party represents "the party of death" That speaks volumes. Palin supporters are calling into talk radio and are saying they are democrats/independents who support her. You cannot make a blanket claim. Election day, we will all speak about what is happening to our values and direction we are going as a people and crimes being covered up on both sides.

As a result of your intentional omission of the most important language of the report, your readers (most of whom will never take the time to determine what the committee actually decided)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Legislative Panel {not a committee} did nothing but releaese the report. This is from ABC News:
i>"I'm going to vote to release it, but it's not a vote in total agreement" said Republican Sen. Gary Stevens. "There's not a consensus for the conclusion," said GOP Rep. Bill Stoltze. He said he expected there would be "robust and vigorous intellectual debate on that in other corners."
As for hearings to determine if Palin actually abused her power:
"To me, that's the smaller issue of all this" said Democratic Rep. Les Gara, who has been an outspoken critic of Palin's. Any action against the governor would properly come from the state personnel board, said Gara.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
In other words, all they did was vote to release Branchflower's Report. They offered no opinion on the findings. Gara, a Democrat, pretty much admitted that this is a personnel issue under Alaska Law. It appears unlikely the Legislative Panel will take any further action.

Palin is now denying she did anything wrong.
Geez, why did she fight so hard to block the investigation, then? Let's remember the panel was made up of 10 republicans and only four democrats. And the investigation started way before McCain chose her.
Can she just admit it? It really seems quite clear she did something fishy, no matter what she says. I quite frankly find it strange that instead of reporting the "abusive" Wooten to the police on charges of criminal intimidation, she tried to get him fired from his job. The logic just isn't there.

"Between March 23rd and October 1st, various groups, including ACORN, submitted over 252,595 registrations to the Philadelphia County Election Board" with 57, 435 rejected for faulty information. "Most of these registrations were submitted by ACORN, and rejected due to fake social security numbers, incorrect dates of birth, clearly fraudulent signatures, addresses that do not exist, and duplicate registrations. In one case, a man was registered to vote more than 15 times since the Primary election."

Well, let's see; a State Trooper tasers a ten year old kid, drinks in his cruiser and threatens to kill the father of the Governor.
And the Trooper's boss won't fire this guy.
Doesn't anyone think something's wrong with THOSE ethics?
The guy is most likely a BOT!

The biggest anger should be where the most corruption is which is MUCH bigger than Watergate (which was all politics), is the HIGH crimes in Congress over this cover up what happened with Fannie and Freddie to Countrywide to ACORN. I pray this all comes out and takes it in every direction to Obama, Pelosi, Dodd, Reins, Franks even to Paulson and Chris Cox. Makes you wonder the economy is in ruins, politicans are becoming dirty rich, Obama is close to America haters Scary. It explains to me perfectly why people are angry.

I am not fond of Mc.-Team, but I also hate (Obama/his wife)'s personality very much. What should I do?.....Yet I might go for the team I hate most simply because should Obama become the President, we may avoid another terrorist attack as Obama's friendliness to terrorist may work well for America. May be Yes, may be No.

Don't forget TRAVELGATE with Hillary. I quess that (leftist) female democrat in Alaska who went after Palin to smear her reputation forgot about that. What goes around comes around.

Mike!
Rev. Louis Farrakhan: "You are the instruments that God is going to use to bring about universal change. And that is why Barack has captured the youth. And he has involved young people in a political process that they didn't care anything about. That's a sign. When the messiah speaks, the youth will hear. And the messiah is absolutely speaking."
Certainly sounds like Rev. Farrakhan is calling Sen. Obama the messiah in that comment.

Good Morning,
Sarah Palin has not been found guilty of anything. The Branchflower Report is just his report; nothing more, nothing less. He concluded that the primary charge against Sarah was groundless.
Branchflower offers the opinion that Srarah abused her power by not stopping Todd Palin from inquiring about Trooper Wooten's hearing. He concluded that Todd Palin was trying to get Wooten fired, to settle a fammily score.
That is only Branchflower's opinion. It is sort of like when Ken Starr completed his report, and concluded Bill Clinton had committed an impeachable offense.

You notice that the media keeps reporting that Obama is way ahead in the polls yet the stock market continues to tumble. In the media, they tell us that wall street is main street. People are angry because of the corruption and Obama's party and he was in the middle and no one is being punished for the crimes. They want McCain to promise to go after the corruption. Palin did nothing illegal and May God bless her for standing up to that employee who had no ethics whatsoever. The state trooper never got fired. He should be fired. He's a poor excuse for a cop. I am glad the other man was fired. He deserved it. I don't blame Todd at all after the guy made threats to his wife's dad. The dems lead this towards Palin. The public will support her for standing up to the man who has no ethics as he supported a cop who hurt the kid.

Jake: This post is just the type of junk-reportage that feeds the public distrust of the media and the belief that organizations such as ABC are simply incapable of objectively reporting facts.
You state: “The AP reports that the bipartisan committee concluded that a family grudge wasn't the only reason Palin fired Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan, but was likely was a contributing factor.”
Can you please explain why you, in your capacity as ABC News' Senior National Correspondent, intentionally failed to provide your readers with the actual decision of the committee which appears in the short sentence immediately following the reference to “a contributing factor:”
I find that, although Walt Monegan’s refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as Commissioner of Public Safety. IN SPITE OF THAT, GOVERNOR PALIN’S FIRING OF COMMISSIONER MONEGAN WAS A PROPER AND LAWFUL EXERCISE OF HER CONSTITUTIONAL AND STATUTORY AUTHORITY TO HIRE AND FIRE EXECUTIVE BRANCH DEPARTMENT HEADS.
The committee investigation was instituted to determine if Palin did anything unlawful in the firing of Monegan. You have obviously and intentionally “reported” only a "likely" investigative “finding” of the committee. On the other hand, you have intentionally failed to provide your readers with the ultimate result – the final decision of the investigation: what Gov. Palin did was both “proper” and “lawful”.
As a result of your intentional omission of the most important language of the report, your readers (most of whom will never take the time to determine what the committee actually decided) leave your post with a totally incorrect impression. Why do you do this? Do you simply not care what this type of “reporting” is doing to your profession? Would you please explain in your next post?
