Webb: Palin Pick Evidence Obama More Presidential Than McCain

October 17, 2008 1:01 PM

At a rally for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in Roanoke, Va., Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., cited Sen. John McCain's, R-Ariz., selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin -- and Obama's pick of Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del. -- as evidence that Obama would be a better president.

"What is the one decision that a candidate for president makes before he or she is elected that clearly indicates what their judgment is?" Webb asked the crowd. "The selection for who is going to run with that individual as vice president."

"Do you really think that Sarah Palin is the most qualified person in the Republican Party?" Webb asked the crowd after heralding Biden's credentials.

He said the choice reminded him of a country and western song, "I Know What I Was Doing, but What Was I Thinking?" (The refrain from the song, by Dierks Bentley, "What Was I Thinking," is actually "Well I know what I was feeling/But What was I thinking?") "John McCain is probably singing that sing right now," Webb said.

Webb told the crowd, "So, folks if you are trying to talk to your friends about clear distinctions in terms of judgment, temperament, vision -– this is something you can really ask them to take a look at."

He recalled the moment just before the start of the vice presidential debate when Palin asked Biden if she could call him "Joe."

Webb said he wanted Biden to respond, "You can call me whatever you want, in two months you're going to be calling me Mr. Vice President."

Donna Hughes,

"Palin is shallow. She lacks the curiosity to learn about the world beyond her immediate circle. She is unsuitable for an office that requires one to represent us to the rest of the world. The fact that McCain chose her shows that he either sold out, or has bad judgment."

I couldn't agree more. I think McCain has bad judgement because he has consistently sold out. He sold his soul in previous run for the presidency, too. I think it was over the "issue" of flying the confederate flag in SC. CNN aired both of his statements -- the one where he said it was not cool, then the one after the right-wing nuts forced him to state otherwise and declare his new "belief".

Obama/Biden 08!

"Sorry, but I don't vote for a woman simply because she's a woman."

Yet a lot of blacks will be voting for Barack because of the color of his skin.

Why is that any more acceptable than voting for a candidate because of her sex... especially in an election during which each and every woman.. aside from PPelosi... has been treated like cowpod.

Ferraro, Clinton, and, now Palin!

Palin, by the way, has more ***** than Obama.... so maybe tht could convince you to change your mind.

"If you are a woman on this board, then join hands with other women and vote for Sarah Palin and John McCain on November 4, 2008."

YOU WON'T BE SORRY!

Kay,

Sorry, but I don't vote for a woman simply because she's a woman.

If Sarah Palin were qualified, if I agreed with her politically, and if I respected her, I would vote for her -- and her being a woman would be a plus.

But the fact that we both have the same type of reproductive equipment doesn't inspire or oblige me to vote for her.

From Sunday's Washington Times (even before the Three-Letter-Word):

Biden's gaffes Jay Ambrose Sunday, October 12, 2008

During all the hysteria about Sarah Palin and whether she is fit to be vice president, has anyone noticed Joe Biden is a persistent, unreformed, downright clownish bungler whose gaffes are simply too many and too wild to be considered perfectly excusable slips of the tongue?

Just remember Joe's 3 letter word J O B S!!!

Add a typical room service for Barrack and Michele of lobster appetizers, IRANIAN CAVIAR, 2 steamed lobsters...

Make sure that caviar came from Iran ...

We have learned enough about these people to be able to declare categorically that they are unfit for public service--certainly high public office--and to ignore this is frankly absurd, dangerous and indicative of extreme mental weakness and delusion.

Vincent--You just described Obama. This is the exact reason Obama will not get my vote. Other reasons are:
ACORN associations/voter fraud
Ayers Associations
Rev Wright, Black liberation theology church, racist for 20 yrs
Notable Flip-flopper
Inexperienced
Endorsements by Louis Farakhan, Hamas and Hezbollah
Fictitous and questionable donations
Associations with Raila Odinga in Kenya
If he's not helping his brother George, living in a
6 x 9 hut on a $1 month, why would he help us.
Most liberal record in Senate
Admited he has a no sway with those on the other side of the aisle.
Questionable Rezko land deal
Part of the corrupt "chicago machine"
Voted to take away 2nd amendment rights.
Voted for abortions at any stage in pregnancy (above his pay grade)
Voted to allow young girls to get abortions without parental consent and they can go across state lines to get it.
The list goes on.......

If you are a woman on this board, then join hands with other women and vote for Sarah Palin and John McCain on November 5, 2008.

The only problem with your statement is that you are voting on November 5, If you are a Republican you are suppose to vote on November 4, Democrats are instructed to vote on November 5.

Roxieanne--I'm with you.

Posted by: Kay | Oct 17, 2008 9:35:44 PM

Roxieanne,
The only way you could think like that is if you live under the same rock as "What Publications Do You Read Palin"!!!

there is no hope for you, but don't insult the rest of us by making such a ridiculous request!

It must really grate on Senator Webb and Senator Biden that Governor Sarah Palin outranks both of them in her position of Governor of Alaska and certainly outranks Barrack Hussein Obama.

While Governor Sarah Palin has been minding the strategic business of Alaska to help the rest of America with energy, Obama spent two years spending taxpayers money and contributors money to tour the nation and to build a flimsey resume.

'Obama has no National Credentials nor does he have International Credentials.'

His trip to the mid-East and Europe was his vacation tour of those areas---bought and paid for by taxpayers and contributors to his campaign-----to build a resume he did not have.

And, as McCain stated-----he has not even been South of the USA border with Mexico.

We have for the first time since Geraldine Ferraro ran unsucessfully against President Reagan whom I supported a qualified woman ready to break the glass-ceiling for all American women.

If you are a woman on this board, then join hands with other women and vote for Sarah Palin and John McCain on November 5, 2008.

Posted by: Roxieanne | Oct 17, 2008 8:05:45 PM

McCain chose Palin for two simple reasons:

1) Female. Hoping to peel off Clinotn supporters in a cynical poltical move.

2) Fundamentalist Wingnut. Palin has been involved in efforts to ban books, supports "young earth" beliefs that dinosaurs and cave men coexisted only several thousand years ago, and other such craziness. 2000 McCain called the fundies crazy and totally scorned them as an anti-intellectual movement dangerous to the nation. Then they pulled the rug out from under him. 2008 McCain sucked up to them, and even allowed them to dictate his running mate, knowing full well they hope he drops in office.

Shameful.

Trickle down is dead. No more tax cuts for the rich. It has never worked. Most of the middle class has had enough of it. It has always been a lie that was sugar coated with the sweet syrup of the bible and patriotism. It's time for the top 5% to pay their fair share and stop saddling America's workers with the burden of paying Haliburton and Exxon. This hoax has gone on long enough. Pull the shroud off your heads and see the light, politics as usual has been sticking it to America for long enough. Let's have some change and some class in the highest office. President Obama, welcome to the White House!!!

Posted by: Trickle down death | Oct 17, 2008 7:01:29 PM

How can people be so stupid as to think that it's sexist to criticize Palin's positions, statements, history, and qualifications? On the contrary, it's sexist to treat her differently because she's a female, to imagine that her gender shields her from criticism.

Even if Obama put his new presidential seal on his booster seat and took the training wheels off his bike, he would still not look presidential.

But I am absolutely shocked that another fellow Democrat is putting down Palin. Just shocked!

Pardon me if I leave the Federalists and Whigs out....

Democrats have been better for this country, and better for the Presidency, by far, though a Republican the caliber of Lincoln or Teddy R. is always welcome.

Please stop referring to Palin as a parrot! I have parrots, and this is an insult to their intelligence!

Palin is shallow. She lacks the curiosity to learn about the world beyond her immediate circle. She is unsuitable for an office that requires one to represent us to the rest of the world. The fact that McCain chose her shows that he either sold out, or has bad judgment.

She does seem to be good at delivering a speech or talking points written by someone else, but not if asked a question for which she has to think, as in, "What publications do you read"? To me she reeks of someone who took the credit for everyone else's hard work, and has gotten by this way by using her looks and flirting her way through stuff, as she did in the VP debate. She would make a great person on a show like the "Today Show" or "Good Morning America". But as VP? NO!!

Joe Biden will answer any question. It may not always come out exactly right, but if you know anything about him, which it is possible to do because he has been around for a long time, then you cut him some slack because you know that he does have the credentials, and he is interviewed so much that there is just more opportunity for something to come out wrong. And the media only seems to make a noise about him when there is some sort of gaffe.

To make a big thing out of the J-O-B-S thing is just deliberately making a mountain out of a molehill.
