As President-elect Barack Obama participates in a wreath-laying ceremony in Chicago today, a bit of trivia: this was the fifth presidential election in a row in which the candidate who didn't serve in uniform abroad beat the candidate who did.
Happy Veterans Day!

"Trained to kill" is just not the message America wants to send, not the representation or leadership we want. We have chosen the non-veteran over the veteran for five consecutive elections because we do not want war.
The military advertises that they can give recruits leadership qualities, but they're not making leaders, they're making followers. We do not want a follower for president; we do not want a military man or woman accustomed to taking orders, we want a leader.
In a time of great questions, we need leaders who ask even more questions.

"Greatest Leader"??? The guy who ignored his own terrorism expert (Richard Clark) and LET - yes, there, I said it - LET 911 happen? Some leader! Give us a break! I am so grateful the country has apparently seen the light and decided to elect a guy with intellect, diplomatic prowess, and patient temperament rather than a guy they 'want to have a beer with'. Good riddance to W, Candi, and the whole mess of them.

Dare I?! He would use his newly minted power to listen into my phone conversations and to spy on me without balance and checks, thanks to our Greatest Leader's vote of confidence in support of taking my constitutional rights away, gradually.

There's more to a great country than a great military. That's what we need to understand. I honor all those who served in the military and gave their lives or committed themselves to do so and were fortunate to come home. But those who served need to remember, tomorrow if need be, that many of us serve in other and equally valid ways. We aren't morons.

"I don't care that Obama never served in the military because he has carried himself with more honor and dignity than most military men I know."
Perhaps you should rephase that! I hav elost family members in many military campaigns in the past 100 yrs! YOUR COMMENTS ARE OFFENSIVE!
You dont have to agree politically, but You DO have to show respect and dignity for any person who chooses to serve this country in the military!
I leave you with this.

After Cheney built his TORTURE chambers in Gitmo and ships at sea, for him to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns is a travesty. Cheney is the most despicable excuse for a human being.
I don't care that Obama never served in the military because he has carried himself with more honor and dignity than most military men I know. As evidenced with the McCain campaign, serving in military does NOT qualify anyone to be POTUS. Besides, since McCain had been military, one would have definitely thought that "honor, duty, country" being the words of military code would mean more to him, but as witnessed thoughout his campaign, we never saw 'honor' abound in any significant way, shape or form. Wonder if he found it difficult to look in the mirror during his campaign? And wonder if he can live with himself even now?

These attempts at smears against Senator Obama from the daffy right wing didn't work during the election campaign and they won't work now.

I fully accept that our future leaders may not have military service, but it still made my blood boil to have Chaney do the speach at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Wow, what a pointless and utterly stupid observatiuon, which relegates our military dead to being nothing more than political points to be scored.
I'm sure their families are so proud of you.

I actually went back and fact checked you on this, Jake. My humble apologies for doubting you. Gore was abroad in Vietnam for 5 months as a journalist in the Army.
Nice filing system in that brain of yours!

What does that tell ya, Jake?! Dope up and be happy. Then, one day, devise a Class War strategy, using 95% of the middle class against 5% of the bourgeoisie society worms, to become a pres.
