No offense, but I think you’d agree that the facts about all the parties who caused the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac crisis have nothing to do with the outcome of the election, and the fact that the election is now over hardly means that this crisis which brought us to the brink of an economic meltdown doesn’t matter any more. These are two separate things, even if they impacted each other because of their timing. It’s a matter of holding people accountable, regardless of party, or not holding them accountable. What could the election possibly have to do with that? Are you saying that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac crisis wasn’t really a crisis - it’s costing us at least $700 billion in money borrowed from China - but was just a part of the election, and now that that’s over, we should just forget about it? If it had happened on a non-presidential election year, or at a different time of the year, wouldn’t it have stood to reason to look into the matter and see who was responsible, wherever that led? Why does its timing of right before the presidential election make it any different? If this crisis and what brought us to it really matters, then the only thing that should count in getting to the bottom of it is the facts that are relevant. The election has nothing to do with it.

“The only thing you folks care about is winning, not that your able to govern.... you don't give a damn about America unless your 'running the show' or killing someone.”

I’m sorry you believe that. It’s not true. The only thing I want to say in response is that while people talk about the Clinton years as some glory days, it’s important to remember some things, among them: world conditions are constantly changing; the Clinton years followed the end of the Cold War, which was a boost; Baby Boomers were in their prime rather than beginning to retire, which is said to be the next big crisis but has been increasingly affecting our economy for some time because it’s been no secret that it will cause real problems; and we benefited short-term from sending jobs overseas and from the rise of things like personal computers in every home. And, during most of the Clinton years there was a Republican congress. I am not arguing that anything necessarily caused anything else here, just pointing out the facts and suggesting *possibilities.* In the same way, the world has been changing and now terrorism may start to be more a threat and Middle East countries may be growing unstable in ways they never were before. The Baby Boomers are retiring, and China and Russia are far more powerful, while who knows how the situation with oil stands now. While I don’t agree with Democratic beliefs, I’ve never thought that anyone in the White House or Congress has it easy in terms of making decisions.

Obama's biggest achievent will be winning this election. I see a windbag with no substance.

The Bolsheviks in Russia threw the Russians into communism with there war on the rich Czar. Instead of a violent revolution by force, we are seeing it just as Kruschev said in '62 with this political war on rich class perpetrated by the Democrat liberals-who make up the richest class in Congress-but use loopholes to protect themselves. Obama's so-called tax the rich is warfare against the wealthier class in America and will cause closing of many small businesses, stagnant inflation, no business expansion or investment by the rich and reduced govt. revenue-which will lead to higher costs, taxes, groceries, etc. Do you understand that all govt. revenues from last budget has been spent and the stimulus payments from Bush had to be BORROWED FROM CHINA? But you'll get a good taste of Obamanomics here shortly and all you supporters can cry when you lose your jobs-nobody will listen.

I work for the Department of Defense and I can tell you that most of us in my shop are very concerned about the ramifications of Obama's election. He's vowed to cut defense spending. We'll probably lose our jobs because of this idiot! He'll most likely initiate another round of base closings, like Clinton did and we'll be out.
God help this country under an Obama/Communist/Socialist administration. I'm appalled at the stupidity of the American people, that they would put someone like him in, especially after all the negative things we know about him (his shady friendships with people like Bill Ayers; his radical pastor, Reverend Wright; his oath to bankrupt the coal industry, etc.). God help us!

well its all over now. but for the record, its not about dropping benefits you already are giving employees, its about being forced to now start giving more when you are suffering in this economy.

but whatever, when we are in the middle of a world war because obama has no idea of decent foreign policy I expect all the obama supporters to inlist in the millitary. When you blue collar workers are losing your job because obamas policies are choking your employer, i will smile.

Phil, you wrote:

Most people under 30 don’t remember communism, and liberalism has gone somewhat underground. Those are big problems. People know there’s that “radical” Republican base of conservatives - radical leaders of radical activist groups. The Democrats, on the other hand, don’t seem to have a base or leaders or activist groups. They’re mainstream and all they have is middle-American voters. If you suggest they that an influential liberal elite base exists, is organized, and shares many of it beliefs with members of Congress, you’ll get screamed at, mocked, and probably a response like Sen. Biden gave to that Florida TV reporter who asked if Sen. Obama was a Marxist: “Is that a real question? Is that a real question?” Democrats have succeeded for years at using intimidation and gas lighting whenever such questions have been raised, and now it’s worked for them. We’ve elected a man who had a communist band open and close for him a campaign rally and posed for pictures with its members - the Decemberists at a Portland rally in May. This is our leader? Just what sort of message does that send to young people? My father wasn’t a very political person - he was born just before Hitler came to power and was hardly out of school when he slipped into West Germany at night before it became almost impossible to do so. But both of those systems of brutal, undemocratic dictatorships certainly molded him in so many ways, and it’s well-known that they both deliberately targeted youth to sway them towards their way of thinking. One thing I’ve noticed in the accounts of people who have managed to escape countries like North Korea is that so many actually believe in the system they were born into until they experience its viciousness firsthand. Shaping their minds as children, not letting them know anything else, and scaring people out of talking and thinking differently from the government is actually quite effective.

Obama also focuses on youth, and being middle-aged himself, and a leader, he has to be aware of how young people can be influenced and he should take the responsibility that they look to him for leadership and guidance very seriously. Leading young people in the right direction - that should be considered one of the most important responsibilities of a leader. If he would have said thanks but no thanks to this band, it would have shown real leadership, setting an example for young people and signaling that while he might have idealistically involved himself with the ideas of socialism, Marxism and communism in his young adult years, in the years since then he’s come to recognize their brutal realities and failures and rejected them, realizing that there are far better ways to work to solve problems. Instead, the fact that he’d put his stamp of approval on this band says that even after all these years and all his experiences, he still doesn’t recognize that communism is wrong. No wonder, then, that it doesn’t bother him to promote it to young people. It’s terrible judgment, and it tells me all I need to know about his beliefs. And that’s made even worse by the fact that he also accused John McCain of trying to paint him as a communist and acted outraged about it - even as he himself knows that he built his whole career around politics and clearly followed a socialist/Marxist/communist track every step of the way while doing so. His record, if you look into it yourself, shows that. And he himself knows that he ran for Illinois State Senate as a member of the Democratic Socialist-sponsored New Party, for instance (Politically Drunk on Power blog has the proof of that). Yet he can feign ignorance and outrage. And now our country has elected him without knowing anything about his career, except that he’s been a Senator for two years, “happened” to sit on a couple of boards with William Ayers, and maybe that he was once a “community organizer” (it would be interesting to poll people on what they think that is). What the country didn’t know when it did, though, is bound to show up in his presidency.

My Fellow Americans:
It has been an enjoyable experience blogging with you tonight. I am off to watch history unfold. Be you Democrat, Republican, Green, other, please take a moment to reflect towards all of the sacrifices our forefathters made to provide us this gift: one person, one vote. I agree; the GOP would suffer if all had an education that was consistent across communities. The people would get involved, and that would be the end of them. I always chuckled when the Right would hack on Obama for being a community organizer. Yeah, what a jerk! How dare he help the people!

OBAMA/Biden 2008! Whoo-hoo!

Ryan, My point was that from an investment standpoint we will take it in the shorts because of the ability of OPEC to manipulate the market. Looking at it strictly from a competitive standpoint. I want this country to be competitive world wide.

Of course everyone in their right mind would love to wave goodbye to Arab and Hugo oil forever. CNG is the answer for transportation in many markets.

stan,

"I was wondering why Louisiana could be a 'solid GOP' state after Katrina, etc. Now we know. Lame...another example of the GOP being the real enemy of the people."

It is such an abuse of power, I agree. As strong as they once were, they failed to realize their responsibility to fellow humans. I truly believe that the GOP is anti-education.

Obama is going to be elected POTUS because the majority of us have gone to school -- in more ways than one.

Happy voting to you, too!

Sammy: Any way you slice it, petroleum is old-school. All of our manufacturing is gone, and the conditions that the goods are made under in other countries will always keep them cheap. We won't get those jobs back...ever. If we want jobs here, the renewable energy/alternative energy field and all of the supporting industries that it could support, are essential to our future success. Oil will always play a part, but it needs to gradually go away. Good lord man, do we really want to continue supporting the sneaky Saudis with their Wahhabi Royal Family? They can't stand America.

Posted by: stan | Nov 4, 2008 7:12:49 PM

"We can invest tons of $$$ into alternative fuels and all OPEC has to do is drop prices. Then we are sitting on a HUGE energy investment and our world wide competitors will be buying CHEAP energy."

You mean by exapnding the market we would lower the price of fossil fuels and you think that is a bad thing?

Please drudge, send me some capitalists because these right wingers have no idea what they are talking about.

"Hence, an employer that pays $9,000 for your benefits would simply pack an extra $9,000 a year into your paycheck."

ROFLMAO.

You just made the case seconds ago that small biz should drop health insurance to save money.

Posted by: Ryan C | Nov 4, 2008 7:09:22 PM

(R),

Your dreams re healthcare under McCain are nice, but let's reground ourselves in the real world shall we. Sure, if the employer can get healthcare detached from his/her expenses that is great for the employer. But a belief that the employer will then pass the money saved on to the employer is bogus. You won't get a raise. You won't get benefits. The employer will then use the $9,000 he/she just saved to hire someone to 'advise' him/her how to ship your job overseas. You still won't have healthcare and you won't qualify for McCain's $5,000 tax credit.

The only way to limit healtcare expenses is to either don't get it/don't use it OR buy into a system that cannot discriminate on pre-existing conditions and one that WILL PAY when you get sick.

I guess I am a "liberal" independent, but I can't stand Amy Goodman and her anti-American rhetoric. I support missle strikes any and everywhere radical Islam is found, and I believe that we need to spend money now to ensure a progressive place in the future of the world. It is unfortunate that man, fundamentally, needs to fail before doing anything new. And right now, we are on the precipise of failure. Obama is our hope...Pelosi and Reid are worthless.
