Customs Officials Refer Leak of Obama's Aunt's Immigration Status to Inspector General
November 02, 2008 5:49 PM
Officials at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement department have referred the disclosure to the media of the immigration status of Sen. Barack Obama's Aunt Zeituni Onyango to the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General and the office of professional responsibility.
The disclosure may have been a violation of federal privacy laws.
ICE spokeswoman Kelly Nantel in a statement said, "Yesterday morning, ICE referred the matter to the Inspector General and our Office of professional Responsibility for review. They are looking into whether there was a violation of policy in publicly disclosing individual case information."
Late Friday night, The Associated Press reported that Onyango -- whom this week the Times of London and the Boston Globe found living in a Boston housing project -- is in the United States illegally.
A person familiar with Onyango's immigration status told the AP Friday that she "was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request... Onyango's refusal to leave the country would represent an administrative, non-criminal violation of U.S. immigration law, meaning such cases are handled outside the criminal court system. Estimates vary, but many experts believe there are more than 10 million such immigrants in the United States.
"Information about the deportation case was disclosed and confirmed by two separate sources, one of them a federal law enforcement official," the AP reported. "The information they made available is known to officials in the federal government, but the AP could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in its release."

The Blood Diamonds of DRC are run by international “financiers” like Max and Jean-Raymond Boulle, Robert Friedland, and Michael McMurrough, and their companies operate in all the wrong places: Burma, Angola, Sierra Leone, Congo, Papua New Guinea. America Mineral Fields (AMF), renamed ADASTRA, partnered with AngloAmerican in DRC, and was recently bought by First Quantum of Canada. The Rothchilds Group and Meryl Lynch Bank are also involved. First Quantum directors are also directors of Tahera Diamond, one of many start-up diamond firms plundering Canada’s northern territories. Tahera’s directors include former Rothschild’s and current Lundin Mining directors.[76] Rothchilds’ diamond interests are linked with Holland’s ABN AMRO Bank, which counts a British Lord, a Dutch Parliamentarian, and an advisor to the Harvard Business School on its board. Jean-Raymond Boulle, Maurice Tempelsman, Walter Kansteiner, Ed Royce (R) and Corporate Council on Africa members like Halliburton, Boeing, Cargill and Freeport McMoran—
these are the architects of the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), America’s NAFTA for Africa. Freeport McMoran directors include International Rescue Committee and CSIS adviser Henry Kissinger. The AGOA destroys local markets, erects discriminatory trade barriers, undermines local economies to enrich elites and impoverish the masses—a.k.a. in the language of diamondthink, the AGOA promotes free-trade.
Senator Eyton is a board member of a number of corporations, including Coca-Cola Enterprises (Atlanta), General Motors of Canada, Noranda Mining, Nestle Canada, and the Bush-connected Barrick Gold Corporation, whose directors include Brian Mulroney. Barrick, of course, is partnered up with Anglo-American Ashanti in Congo. Brian Mulroney, former Prime Minister of Canada, appointed Eaton to the Senate of Canada in 1991; Mulroney is also a director of Barrick Gold. Other Barrick directors include Vernon Jordan and former U.S. Senator Howard Baker. Mulroney is also a director of Archers Daniels Midland, with former Ambassador and Mayor of Atlanta Andrew Young. The corporate clients of Young’s consulting firm Goodworks International include the Government of Angola, Coca-Cola, Barrick Gold, Chevron-Texaco and Guinness International—one of the branded products advertised in the storyline of the film Blood Diamond. Andrew Young has been very close with the Museveni and Kagame officials plundering diamonds and other natural resources out of Congo.
Please stop pushing rubbish about Africa being poor when all these Americans are the cause behind the conflict in DRC. BLOOD DIAMONDS MR BUSH. It has nothing to do with malaria

His aunt DESERVES NOTHING! She is not entitled to privacy or anything else as she is not a citizen and does not have the rights of a US Citizen. She has broken the law and should be deported right after she pays back the US whatever she owes for 4 years of housing and medical treatment that US citizens paid for.

It WAS a leak. Whoever gave that info to the press broke the law and should be prosecuted. She deserves the right to privacy of her confidential info just like anyone else.

TWO OTHER ILLEGAL THINGS:
WILL THE TRUTH EVER COME OUT ABOUT MASSIVE ILLEGAL FOREIGN DONATIONS OBAMA HAS MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR?
HOW DID SHE VOTE THANKS TO ACORN?

There is a lot of hate mongering in this forum. C'mon. Act like Christians.

Yes, it is a violation federal for an immigrant to contribute to a campaign. That is one of the concerns of Barack Obamas campaign with so many small contributions. Obama Bundlers (people who solicit money and submit in large collective amounts) are questionable, as some are from Pakistan and it is suspected there is middle eastern money coming into the campaign.

It is amazing Democrats would refer to the reporting of a criminal act, as a "leak." Right now, I see immigration violations and public welfare fraud since only citizens are supposed to be getting free and subsidized housing.
I don't he didn't know. He is a constiutional attorney and the first thing a poor family member would do would consult the only trusted family member living in the U.S., who was an attorney and advocate for the poor.

Wow, most of you probably are not from an immigrant family or have any immigrant backgrand. Not everything in this world is as easy as 1,2,3..not every undocumented person in the US had a choice when they were brought here. Think about people who are now 18, 19, 20, 21... most of them were probably brought over when they were 8yrs old or younger BECAUSE OF THEIR PARENTS. So what, they should have no rights either? They should be punished for something that is not even their fault. Be realistic.
If it's illegal for his undocumented aunt to donate to his campaign, why is it not illegal for undocumented peopel to give money to our government? ie. taxes. When it's something like that it's ok right?
Maybe if this country wasn't so focused on hatred then maybe it'd be more prosperous.

"was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request... "
Why wasn't this taken care of then. You tell them to leave, and expect them to? Is it not worth buying them a ticket at that time, holding them until the plane leaves and make sure they get on. Done. Why was her case never followed up on? Why didn't the immigration and naturalization folks check to see if she'd left? That is why illegals are still here. Nobody is making them leave.

The reason why no one cares about the information "leaked" about Joey the Plumber is because credit history is public information and so are court proceedings. Immigration records are not. They are totally different records. If you are asking that Joey's records shouldn't have been opened then no criminal or credit records should be to the public.
Since when has receiving money from someone who isn't a US citizen been considered illegal? Just because his aunt is an undocumented citizen doesn't mean that getting donations from here is illegal. If doing so is illegal then we need to comb through both the senators campaign donations and look for any donations from non-US citizens. But the fact is that groups outside the US have a large stake in this election and will financially back the party of their choice, which means that donating to Obama's campaign is allowable by his aunt.

so where is the follow-up to this story about the aunt facing felony charges and/or getting deported?

I just find it odd that at this point in the campaigning (election only a few days away) that they FINALLY found something that they feel is the "dirt" on Obama!! Come on give me a break!!! Why is it that people are saying how EASY it was to find this auntie and know one bothered to look let's say.....before he accepted the nomination. I wonder how much more dirt they are going to try to dig up within the next 24 hours against Obama!! Come on folks, let's face it, the man has it in the bag. Don't be such sore losers!! :) We've had to endure (the little people, the poor, the under-paid, the minimally insured) for how many elections now??
Yeah Obama 2008!!!

Simple fact: Obama’s aunt has been listed in the White Pages all along
Two questions:
1) How will a President Obama find Bin Laden, if he doesn’t even know how to use a telephone directory to find his “lost” aunt?
2) How can the American media claim to have done a thorough investigation of the candidates, if it too did not do its job on this one? They were outsleuthed by Times of London. Focusing on a “leak” is the media covering its own butt.
All this makes no difference… the mood of the country is such that Obama is a shoo-in. Heck, the electorate would probably vote for Joe Stalin, if he were on the anti-Republican (I mean, Democratic) ticket. Placing the son of a Kenyan Marxist economist in the White House will be just as good.

"The disclosure may have been a violation of federal privacy laws."
But it's OK when it's Joe the Plumber who has his records published.
Obama's illegal auntie has contributed to his campaign.
But that's OK, too. It's acceptable for Democrats to take fraudulent donations.
This is a far more important story than voter fraud.

State machinery should not be used or abused to advance the winning prospects of one Presidential Candidate over the other. That may be considered in certain legal corners as vote tampering. Errol

None of the liberals seemed to care about rights when Joe the Plumber...a legitimate US Citizen who is entitled to privacy rights under the Constitution's rights were violated by a government employee at the request of an Obama supporting state official. From what I have read, this woman has been blabbing it for years and people in the neighborhood, even the princinct chairman had heard it but didn't believe it was true. She sent in campaign donations, again, public record, her name is in his book, published...none of this is hard to put together...it wouldn't have taken inside information if she was blabbing.
Anyway, nobody is defaming her...they are just stating her legal status...Illegal Alien.

I couldn't care less about Obama's aunt, except for the fact that she made numerous donations to fund his campaign which were illegal.
I know that he returned the money when it came to his attention that the donations were illegal.
But how many more illegal donations has he received that haven't "come to his attention" and been returned?
Both Hillary and McCain have safeguards in place to catch foreign and illegal donations; why doesn't Obama? He's the best-funded, most well-run campaign I've ever seen. How could they have overlooked this safeguard?

What will really be interesting is how good at marginalizing themselves Republicans will be. After Nov. 4th, Palin will become the new best buddy of the right-wing fringe hate crowd. They will most likely try and make her into their new theocratic 'leader'.

"We do know that the revelation of Obama's aunt started with the Times of London, which is owned by the owner of Fox News.
Fox News was the first US news source to publish information and have a TV report about Obama's aunt on Friday.
More Bush Abuse of Power"
Hahahahah...that's precious...Obama's aunt is an illegal and illegally supporting his campaign. But let's blame Fox News. Surreal.....
