Hillary, Sturm undt Drang

November 21, 2008 3:55 PM

Sources tell ABC News that on Wednesday night Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, told the Obama Transition Team that she was inclined to reject President-elect Obama's offer that she be the next Secretary of State. Among other reasons, the autonomy of life in the Senate, where she is her own master, appealed to her.

She was encouraged to refrain from making a final decision.

On Thursday, many people in Obama's world reached out to Clinton and convinced her to take the job.

By Thursday night, she had conveyed to President-elect Obama that she was interested in the job.  In other words, she essentially accepted his offer.

Details are still being worked out, but everything is on track for Clinton's nomination for the job to be announced after Thanksgiving, along with other members of the Obama national security team.

The Clintons are capable people without all of the manipulation by media, surragates, and old timers.

I think the Clinton appointment was a bargning chip to get the support that the Obama campaign was convienced it needed to win. To really be "CHANG", if the Clinton's chose not to be involved they should have been left alone and the Obama campaign should have taken the risk. I think they would have been suprised.
If the truth was faced, Obama started to move up with women and the working man's voters before the Clinton drama.

This has the over tones of "calling in favors".

With the push of the media and the oldtimers there was no trust that the new guy was capable of doing the job.

This is the unspoken evidence of the insidious racism in our country. AND THIS IS NOT THE RACE CARD.

I hope this works out for Hillary. She is a wonderful strong woman who was caught in the tides of history through no fault of her own. This is a way for her to impact world outcomes much more than she could as a senator.

And I must say about those of you who still, after all these years, repeat your stale old jokes about Bill and interns and cigars: at least Bill only screwed people one at a time, unlike Shrub (as the late great Molly Ivins referred to George W. Bush), who has screwed the whole country in his eight years in office.

I bet S. Palin is seething with envy. Or I hope so anyway!

It's party time for Bill when Hillary leaves the country so often

He had to put her someplace. She wasn't good enough to be VP.

mainecoonrudy,

Sen. Clinton most certainly can do the job of sos, and will do the job of sos.
just to let you know, it is not a figure head position.
and sen. clinton will be great at the job, and it will be great for our country.

If Secretary of State is a figurehead, I guess Hillary is as good as any. If this is a real job, maybe somebody without the knives out and willing to work for and support Obama, get somebody else. Hillary can't or won't do it.

Go get 'em Hillary!

I can't wait for Keith Olbermann to interview Hillary, so I can hear him address her as Madam Secretary!

I am proud to be an American again.

A decision borne of true strength and leadership. Bravo Obama. Hillary Rodham Clinton is near and dear to our hearts here in Iowa. She and I had a conversation when she was campaigning here and I have never been more impressed with a politician in my life and I've met a number of them over the years, as you tend to do when living in Iowa.

Hillary will be a SUPERB Secretary of State. She will help make the world love America again. She will make all of us proud.

God bless President-Elect Obama and his beautiful family.

I copied this from another site. I love it:

Always remember the Clintons are not stupid and always remember that they have long memories...........

Chris Matthews, Bob Woodward..........ect. etc. etc..... you may be worshipping at the altar of Obama, but the high priestess is back.

Guess who she is going to fillet.

Excellent pick. Her new boss knows where to best use her expertise - taking the 3 AM calls for his administration.

GO OBAMA, I THINK HILLARY IS A GOOD CHOSE, HILLARY NEED TO RUN WITH HER HEAD UP

After leaving office they have stashed millions in offshore Turks and Caicos bank accounts and continue with their shady dealing. The Clintons have alledged ties to Columbian drug cartels dating to their connection with Arkansas Mena Airport drug trafficing and lobbying for the Columbian government. As chairperson for the India Caucus, Hillary was intrumental in outsourcing millions in US jobs to India. This is not change we can depend on.

Madam Secretary-Hillary Rodham Clinton will be the best Secretary of State American has ever had. America will regain its respect with the rest of the world and we will have good relations once again with other nations.
In eight years she will be President Hillary Rodham Clinton. The first woman President. Our best days are still ahead of us all.

How exciting what a team!!!

How can people think Hillary is not good for the position when she is qualified for President?

Obama is making wise choices.

Congratulations!
