How About Never -- Is Never Good For You?

November 03, 2008 1:56 PM

When it comes to the release of her medical records, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is starting to remind me of that great 1993 New Yorker cartoon in which a man in an office talks to someone on the phone, looking at his date book, saying, "No, Thursday's out. How about never -- is never good for you?"

It was on October 22 when Palin told NBC, “My life has been an open book. And my life is an open book today, and Americans deserve to know the background, the associations, the affiliations of a vice presidential candidate. I’m willing to continue to be an open book.”

Brian Williams asked if she would release her medical records.

Said Palin: “The medical records — so be it. If that will allow some curiosity seekers, perhaps, to have, oh one more thing that they can either check the box off that they can find something to criticize, perhaps, or find something to rest them assured over, fine. I’m healthy, I’m happy, I’ve had five kids — that’s going to be in the medical records. Never been seriously ill or hurt — you’ll see that in the medical records if they’re released.”

But the next day Palin spox Maria Comella told ABC News's Kate Snow: “When medical information related to Governor Palin’s health is ready to be released we will make that information available.”

How about never, America? Is never good for you?

UPDATE: I spoke too soon! Less than 90 minutes before Election Day, the McCain campaign released Palin's medical records summary. Read more HERE.

You really believe McCain and The One have the same position on coal? You need to diversify the sources from which you receive your news...

Look up their actual stances. They are virtually the same. Quit listening to FOx and the band of smear bandits and fid out the information on your own.

They provide snippets of what he says and not the entire quote. Most of the right wing sites take his remarks out of context, which I find pathetic.

By calling him the "One", and using "Essence and Jet in particular" your words, not mine you show the real reason you won't vote for him. Get over you narrow mindedness.

I am not going to argue with somebody who would never think of voting him for obvious reasons.

since she was found guilty previously---and now not guilty --what do we do ,flip a coin to break the tie.

you have to admit---palin and mccain on snl are the best---as pres and vp --they are second best----perhaps they will find a new career on snl.

Hey, some good news, the 2nd troopergate report was just released. Big surprise, it found that Palin had not ethics violations.

Jwench - You really believe McCain and The One have the same position on coal? You need to diversify the sources from which you receive your news...

BTW, while I'm going to miss the coverage the Dallas Morning News, NY Post, and Washington Times since they've been booted from Obama One (these papers should've known better than to endorse - gasp - Johnny Mac), I'm very confident that their replacements (Essence and Jet in particular) will provide the same in-depth and balanced covered provided by the aforementioned dailies.

Jake - Given you are on the plane with The One, I would expect that you have already covered this...but as stated previously, I've lost all need for the MSM - This blog is the only exception that I check on an infrequent basis.

tjp8, problem is that the coal thing is an imaginary issue, just another attempt by a man I once respected and planned to vote for to use a non-existent policy difference as a wedge issue.

The only way you get to the "attempted bankruptcy" quote is if you strip it completely of context. Why? Because save a couple of free pollution credits, there is no real difference between the stances of each candidate. Sean Hannity can pat himself on the back for his cynical "cunning" but all he's done is cut until he got his preferred meaning.

What's truly sad is that there was no serious discussion of what must happen to ween our addiction to the oil produced by terrorists and maintain an environment that even us conservatives cannot deny is imperiled.

funny how some still defend the 5% that have 85% of the money in our country----as for palins records--better we know if she should become pres----it may be a little embarassing--or very dangerous----however obama will take care of this problemm---tomorrow--make sure you vote

His grandmother who raised him passed aaway. IF it had been a family member of McCain's they would have done the same thing.

ABC has covered the coal thing as well.
It's really not the big of a deal because Obama and McCain basically have the same stance, if you don't take what Obama said out of context or just use a snippet of what he says like Fox does.

Posted by: Jwench | Nov 3, 2008 7:40:53 PM

What I find sad (pathetic) is that the press gives more effort to The One's grandmother passing away and Sarah Palin's medical record than The One's view on energy, particularly his "cap and trade policy" that will "bankrupt" utilities who invest in coal plants and that "electricity prices will necessarily rise" due to penalties an Obama administraion would impose. Let's just put aside the fact that the coal provides close to 50% of our electricity and thousands of jobs. Coal is our most available energy resource (the U.S. is the "Saudi Arabia" of coal).

The One giveth (tax credits) and takes away (higher electricity prices). Isn't a tenet of Marxism controlling means of production? Isn't this what would happen in an administration presided by The One?

I checked AP, Reuters, CNN and did not find a single headline related to The One's views on coal and energy. Plenty of headlines (and charming photos of a young Barry!) of The One's grandmother's passing though.

The "main stream" media (aka "The Fourth Ward") is irresponsible, spineless, and has lost ALL credibility. I won't even tune in to give any of them (CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, AP, Reuters, etc.) the benefit of a weather report. The whole lot resembles state run media found in any Banana Republic...

Maybe her life is an open book but some of the pages are stuck together...?

Posted by: pough | Nov 3, 2008 7:32:09 PM

Paul:

uh, yeah...what do you want, to make sure she has never had an abortion? This is absurd. I allow Obama his privacy, but it's important for Palin to provide every drop of info...double std and you know it.

McCain is not very old, but yeah, he lost me at Palin.

As all things, so much of any race is about timing. Perhaps Palin would come across differently in four years after she has done the homework necessary to understand the significant national and international that any voter (okay, maybe now that gets amended to most) would insist a candidate understand.

Still, a certain predilection for half truths or worse - clear even that she kept certain things from the McCain campaign until they had no choice but to proceed and prevaricate.

Ultimately, that sits on McCain and the unraveling of what once earned my respect as well as many others. I liked 2000 McMaverick. 2008 McAin't, not even not so much: not at all!

McCain's Quarterly Cancer Screening Results Overdue!

Back in August, I noted that McCain reported the results of his quarterly skin cancer screening from late July. No such report has come out for this quarter, so either: McCain is putting the country at risk by not getting screened, or he has been screened and is putting the country at risk by not releasing the results as they indicate a problem.

In either case, and in combination with Palin failing to produce to her medical records as promised, it's clear the GOP ticket is putting their own political campaign ahead of the good of the country.

She lost you at hello....lol. Reminds me of a song with a few minor changes.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A report detailing whether Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power by firing her public safety commissioner will be released on the eve of the election.

Timothy Petumenos, an independent investigator hired by the Alaska Personnel Board, says he will release the report during a news conference 7:30 p.m. EST Monday.

Posted by: Ryan C | Nov 3, 2008 7:20:03 PM

Sarah Palin Medical records will not be released. So therefore we assume something is in her medical records McCain does not want out. Stop and think and think about my conclusion! This is only reason why they haven't.

Posted by: Sharonklim | Nov 3, 2008 7:17:54 PM

Funny how all the pro-lifers are spewing the virtues of privacy. HA-larious!.. The other candidates have at least released statements, and yes it is important! We know Obama was a smoker and McCain is not only very old, but also a cancer survivor. Look at how the presidency has aged people? Who knows, Maybe Sarah is bi-polar. If she's going to be answering the red phone, I'd like to know that.
My vote is for Obama. McCain lost me at Palin.
