Obama Derangement Syndrome

November 10, 2008 9:09 PM

We all remember "Bush derangement syndrome" -- defined by Charles Krauthammer as "the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency -- nay -- the very existence of George W. Bush."

We already need a name for the reverse disorder.

Rep. Paul Broun, R-Georgia, recently said that he fears President-elect Obama may create a security force akin to the Gestapo to impose a Marxist dictatorship.

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Broun told The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may - may not, I hope not - but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

In July, Broun explained, Obama spoke of creating a civilian force so as to help the military shoulder some of the nation's national security burden..

"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."

Broun theorized that after Obama creates this national police force he'll ban gun ownership.

"We can't be lulled into complacency," Broun said. "You have to remember that Adolf Hitler was elected in a democratic Germany. I'm not comparing him to Adolf Hitler. What I'm saying is there is the potential."

There is an Obama derangement syndrome. I just read that a New York Elementary School has been renamed "Obama Elementary School".

Come on people! He has not even taken office yet! He has not done anything yet! But people are already naming schools after him?

If that is not derangement, what is?

All of a sudden, the comments die. ;)

Xenu plans to take a new "control point" body in 2007. An analysis of Markabian scenarios indicates that this will be either the body of, or the body of the adviser to, the President of the United States! From either of these positions, he would be able to exert influence toward the acceptance of a one-world police state. For more data on this, see Sector Operations Bulletin No 19 "Markab, the Final Handling".

Broun is now expressing "regret" for calling Obama Marxist, and comparing him to Hitler. Stating, "He didn't mean it" He's sorry it sounded that way". LOL You'll have to look it up, since they wont allow linking here. Google news gives good returns just by searching on "Broun".

Why does this seem to be a common recurring theme among conservatives? HIlarious. This guy, after repeat failed attempts at office, finally gets in, then gets a lucky break and survives this year, and now cleanly shoots himself in the foot. No wonder the repubs are in such bad shape.

Listen to all these nuts on here going off about this, flipping out over the coming Obama SS, and now the guy who started it, who they rallied behind is apologizing and saying he didn't mean it like that at all. Sorry, can't help it, but,,..... BWAHAHAHAHAHAH.....

Today was vetrans day , a holiday, what a joke''''' my son went to school we almost all went to work. We should respect the women and men fighting for our country. help out the famly that stays at home and waits for them to get back from war, pay tribute to all who has fought for this great contry. not by going to school or work, but give thanks to all the brave people that protect us. make it a day for all of them. give what u can if only a prayer.

I forgot one important category...in the act of heroism here at home. I am reminded of the Marine who had only been home for a couple of weeks and lost his life in an attempt to save his son from drowning.

Posted by: James Danley | Nov 11, 2008 7:15:40 PM

Ryan C, more of our military personnel have died here at home during training, accidents (involving military planes, military vehicles and personal vehicles), homicides, suicides, accidental drug overdoses, etc.

I made the comment because even those in the military who lose their lives here at home deserve to be remembered and recognized.

Ryan:

I know! That little puny Madison (i his mid-thirties at drafting time, I think, wow!)

...hey, you know he was mad that he lost an election against a bartender who was really popular, I think...something I remember from a lecture somewhere.

So he set the Constitution up so no one faction could ever dominate for an extended period...yadda yadda.

"So we get a mushy middle country after all this campaigning...is that so wrong? :-)...the downside is noone is ever completely satisfied...maybe that is the upside, too."

*chuckle*

Thinking of Madison....perhaps this was by design.

Ryan:

Heh. I think you are actually right. Once you get down to it, the candidates are Hobbes' "leviathans" of their respective "sides" and we usually end up getting someone with pretty mixed "ideologies..."

I think the annoying thing about any political faction (and republicans are particularly, though not exclusively, prone to this) is that it tends to create and advertise an approach that it demands be adhered to 100% of the time. In practice, this is impossible.

Examples: why, if Bush and other republicans were such small government types, they would abolish all federal aid for schools and financial aid (even gov loans) for colleges, not out of animosity, but in keeping with the low taxes, low expenditures philosophy...kind of hard to do that in reality. I know that would have kept me out of school for sure...

Example on the other side (you know I have to)...: why, if health care is a "right," Obama and democrats would just call for employers to provide a certain level of health care, or pay for it thru a single payer system, or whatever...but we won't see that, most likely...

What keeps them in check is fear of screwing it up so badly that they lose support at the next go.

The good thing is that enough beefing on both sides keeps the ideologues from getting the crib AND the bottle AND the toys at the same time, I guess.

So we get a mushy middle country after all this campaigning...is that so wrong? :-)...the downside is noone is ever completely satisfied...maybe that is the upside, too.

"Sadly a little known fact is that more of our military personnel have lost their lives here at home in the past 5 1/2 years than in Iraq and Afghanistan combined."

I'll be charitable and ask that you explain this remark.

"Ryan C, so are you going to deny all of the findings of the 9/11 Commission? It was the 9/11 Commission that found that it WAS Joe Wilson's wife who recommended her husband as the person who should go to Niger"

Hmmmm your last post put that she requested Wilson even implying that she had assigned Wilson.

Now we are reduced to a recommendation.

Walking back the lie.

But Jake, Obama has asserted his desire to create a "civilian national security force.. that is just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded," as "our military." You can search it and see for yourself.

I say good for the congressman for drawing attention to this. Obama mentioned this IN JULY and no one in his press corps, I mean the mainstream media, has even bothered to ask him about it.

Posted by: Thank God for Karma | Nov 11, 2008 6:27:51 PM

Uhh, do any of y'all actually look at what the Obama-Biden website says about this civilian force you are all so worried about?

Create a Civilian Assistance Corps (CAC): [sic] national CAC of 25,000 personnel...with special skill sets (doctors, lawyers, engineers, city planners, agriculture specialists, police, etc.)...to provide each federal agency with a pool of volunteer experts willing to deploy in times of need... (edited by me for brevity)

Doctors, lawyers, engineers, city planners, ag specialists, aren't exactly brownshirts. Somehow I don't see the EPA leading us into Red Dawn...

I'm a McCain Democrat (if there is such a thing)...but I like Obama so far, he is doing the right thing..promoting unity..we must look foward, not backward..I believe he has seen many secret documents that have rocked his midwestern world..IMHO..

I do believe, it is time to let the press act freely without bias from the new admin. .. this is the most important part of our freedom..freedom of the pen! No more ostracizing the bad press...treat everyone (that's sane) equally!

Ryan C., I did not "blithely push aside" the deaths of our US service men and women. In fact, in an earlier comment I thanked ALL of the men and women who have served our country. And I acknowledge that so many sacrificed their lives or limbs so that we can enjoy the Freedom of Speech that we exercise here on this blog every day.

Sadly a little known fact is that more of our military personnel have lost their lives here at home in the past 5 1/2 years than in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

"Hmm, haven't seen that yet. Sounds like he is being more democratic than republican with his comments about leaving behind fiscal responsibility"

Ok put aside his comments about giving the people programs they want and that fiscal conservatism is a loser politically ;-)

It would be interesting to distill the parties down to their bare ideologies and then see which the people prefer.

But I think the large mushy middle of America prefers the hodge podge candidate vs the pure ideology one.

Clem, you wrote:

“Media bias towards Obama. Nah. It's more like media recognition of McCain lies. That's the blowback McCain gets for the half-truths and lies from his negative campaign.”

McCain and his campaign did distort a few things, but it was nothing next to the distortions by Obama, his campaign and the media, including that McCain’s was the “negative campaign.” For example, when Karl Rove said both campaigns had been less than completely truthful, the Obama campaign alerted the media that “even Karl Rove” said McCain wasn’t being truthful (what about him saying the same about Obama?) and many in the media reported it (CNN and Time’s Joe Klein, to name just two) just as the Obama campaign spun it. If that isn’t a half-truth, I don’t know what is.

Wade I think the sad part is how the Republicans implemented smaller government . ..

REPUBLICAN GOVERNMENT
$421 Billion OVER BUDGET (2002)
$555 Billion OVER BUDGET (2003)
$596 Billion OVER BUDGET (2004)
$554 Billion OVER BUDGET (2005)
$574 Billion OVER BUDGET (2006)

This included RECORD overspending.

If 'small government' was the goal of the Republican party they failed on a grandly inept and arrogant scale.

My suspicion is a lot of this money went to their buddies in the oil, banking and military/industrial oligarchy.

Ryan C, so are you going to deny all of the findings of the 9/11 Commission? It was the 9/11 Commission that found that it WAS Joe Wilson's wife who recommended her husband as the person who should go to Niger.

The issue regarding the outing of Valerie Wilson was the use of her maiden name. That's because she did her undercover work using the name Valerie Plame.
