Obama Offers Rahm Emanuel Job of White House Chief of Staff
November 05, 2008 8:30 AM
ABC News has learned that President-elect Obama has offered the White House chief of staff job to Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill.
Emanuel, a knowledgeable source tells ABC News, has not yet given his answer. The sharp-tongued, sharp-elbowed, keenly intelligent veteran of the Clinton White House is said to have ambitions to some day be Speaker of the House. But he also has a keen sense of "duty."
Today on "Good Morning America" ABC's George Stephanopoulos reported Obama likes the fact that Emanuel "knows policy, knows politics, knows Capitol Hill" and has told associates that Emanuel would "have his back."
There is a tentative plan to announce Obama's chief of staff this week.

Some of these comments are downright stupid. Okay, so John McCain lost. Deal with it and please, move on. I also love how some of you are pulling the race card already. "WOW!! A white guy!! The first pick by Obama, and he goes white... I bet that'll tick off some of his voter base..." Let this be known, the African-American population is extremely happy that the President-elect is a black man but we understand (and the world should too) what this means for our culture, our ideas, and our our people. I personally voted for Obama because of his ideas and not the color of his skin (that's just an added bonus). Grow up America and realize that "The emergence of the Black man" is approaching, and it's approaching fast. Get ready!

Rahm Emanuel seems to be a good guy. I think Obama will be successful as our president, and I belive that Emanuel will be successful as well. I will continue to do my research on Rahm Emanuell to see what he is all about. But from what I know right now, I think he's a cool guy...while write more when I gain more knowledge on him. I have faith that Good things will come to this country and this world, it'll just take a while =] We all have to work together because that is the only way this world will be healed. Obama is the man and I am so happy he won. McCain is a joke...honorable for serving in the military, but a really bad candidate right along with sarah palin. Love our president.

"The Obama's do not even celebrate Christmas. America what the hell have you done?"
I assume you're talking about celebrating Christmas as a Christian holiday? Why don't you read something about the history of Dec. 25th? Or about Christmas trees? It should be an enlightening read for you. You'll have to look somewhere other than the Bible, because neither are mentioned there.
Spoiler alert: neither have much at all to do with Christianity.
More importantly, who cares? He can celebrate Festivus every year for all I care. Religion is still not a test for public office, fortunately.

All the names being floated for an Obama cabinet are far-left-wing democrats and one liberal republican. Yea....that's change we can believe in.

So the guy involved in the INS scandal in the Clinton White House is Obama's choice? Yea......that's change we can believe in.

You guys are not afraid that he can't run the country but you are afraid that a black man will do damage to you. Who died and made the white man king to say he suppose to run the country forever. Remember bush is the one that started these wars. Do you guys know why you don't like black people all i can say is grow up and just pray for our country and president elect

"The Obama's do not even celebrate Christmas. America what the hell have you done?"
The Puritans that immigrated to this land centuries ago did not either. (Jehovah Witnesses also do not 'celebrate' Christmas).
I have a whole soap-box about Christmas, but that is not the topic of this discussion. I did, however, feel it necessary to point out that our history holds devout Christians that did not 'celebrate' Christmas. It's a pretty weak card to play when there are far greater issues at stake.

I really think that at this stage we should let Obama get on and plan his strategies and put his team together. If his strategies done work then yes lets 'have a go at him' (all politicians are fair game if they fail) ... but give the guy a chance to sort the problems out.

Seems all the pro obama folks on this blog think they know what obama is going to do when faced with certain situations. Must be nice to be a mind reader. All i can say now is we all have to wait and see what will happen over the next 2-4 years. Does no good to pick on every decision he makes now. It would be wiser to wait and see how his campaign promises work out. 2 years from now cant get here fast enough. And yes it is true that most African Americans that voted only voted for the color of Obamas skin. Most had never voted before tuesday. Hopefully his election will move the African American population forward and out of the past. SAD and disturbing... But really, same ol same ol.

I hope Obama will change his mind about appointing Rahm Emanuel as White House Chief of Staff. In my opinion, it will be a HUGE mistake for this new administration. I'm afraid President Obama will find out the hard way that Emanuel only serves the interests of Emanuel, and not the interests of the president he serves. This man is one of the most egotistical and power hungry politician I have ever met...and that, ladies and gentlemen, is a bold statement considering the overwhelming number of power hungry politicians and colossus egos In Washington!

HILLARY. You've done great work this election and all global citizens have been rewarded. By taking so many hits all through out the long pre-election so that Obama could flank around towards the closing stages took brunt of so much of the oppos sttack for so long. I'm so glad the Dems had a well planned political strategy of this kind.

Some good points you make there typical white person...I wonder what reaction McCain would have gotten if he called someone a typical black person. Can you even imagine the outcry? I must admit I was offended when Obama used that term as I'm married to a typical white person, but I don't have a Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton to go on TV and whine about it for me. I think too many people in many elections, this one especially, vote about what benefits them monetarily, in the short run, what they can get from the government, and Obama certainly promised the moon to many people. There are some of us, patriots, who ask not what our country can do for us, but what we can do for our country. What is best for job creation and economic growth as a whole, not neccessarily for us individually at this moment in the short run. As Tito the builder said, we don't sell our votes for how much money we're going to get out of it, but choose the policies that will be the best for the country in long term view. I wish there were more people who thought that way. Socialism has never worked. If you've never lived in a socialist country you can't fully understand, but you've seen the unemployment and low productivity and low rates of education and depressed economies... The communists like China, socialist countries like France, and leaning socialist like Canada are just realizing this and moving strongly toward capitalism, because it works. Don't start moving us into socialism and away from the prosperity our people have enjoyed for decades. It takes so long to get back out of socialism, your children are the ones who will really suffer. Research socialist countries if you have a chance. Become educated before you vote.

I told an unbelieving Democrat friend of mine, if Mr. Obama is elected, upon his taking the oath of office he will become my Commander in Chief and as such I will gladly obey all lawful orders issued by him. Retirees are still officers.

For those who have voted for Obama and has the victory at the polls, give God the glory. And for those of you guys who voted for McCain and were on the loose end still thank God all the same. But to conclude,What Obama need is our prayer. He alone cannot do it.With God all things are possible.

It's sad that so many African American's voted for Barack on the fact that he is black, and for that fact alone. I heard one African American woman on t.v. saying, this is the first election she's ever voted in, in her entire life and she looked to be in her 40's at least!
Out of all the African American's who voted, I wonder what small percentage know anything at all about Barack and what he stands for.
This is a sad, sad, and scary day for America.

I'm a demopublicrat I voted for the best man at this time, besides he can't do any more then what's already been done we are all responsible, besides we elected all of them and didn't impeach em, and before you complain again pray, if that's not sufficient run yourself an do it right, then we can judge you.

Whatever move President Elect Obama makes, subset of the Republican Party will try to spin it as evil/liberal/socialist/terrorist/whatever. Let me point out that Rahm's views differ from Obama's on many counts, so he is keeping his promise of surrounding himself with people who do not agree with him on everything. Also Rahm is Israeli! If you think his pick of Chief of Staff is so important, then please do not ever use the ridiculous Barack Obama is anti-Israel argument again.

So now we see that Obama's idea of bringing America together is to hire a chief of staff that has a reputation as an ascerbic, insulting, attack dog.
Must be a new record. It took less than 24 hours to break his first promise.
Oops - two records in one day. The stock market has fallen further today than for any post election day in history.

Texas Mom - no one asked for a republican. We would be much more inclined to believe in hope and change if he hadn't picked a extremely partisan Clinton era politician though.
