Obama Resigns! (From Senate)
November 13, 2008 3:17 PM
President-elect Barack Obama submitted his letter of resignation from the U.S. Senate this afternoon, effective Sunday.
"It has been one of the highest honors and privileges of my life to have served the people of Illinois in the United States Senate," Obama said in a statement. "In a state that represents the crossroads of a nation, I have met so many men and women who’ve taken different journeys, but hold common hopes for their children’s future. It is these Illinois families and their stories that will stay with me as I leave the United States Senate and begin the hard task of fulfilling the simple hopes and common dreams of all Americans as our nation's next president."
The move, first reported by the Chicago Tribune, puts pressure on Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to find a replacement for Obama to serve until 2010, the next scheduled federal election, as stated by Illinois law.
Obama's running mate, Vice President-elect Joe Biden, has yet to resign from his Senate seat, to which he won re-election for a seventh term on the same day he was elected vice president. Slightly more Delaware voters -- 257,484 -- wanted Biden to serve as Senator than the 255,394 who voted for him and Obama to lead the nation.

Obama is answering his purpose. If it wasn't meant to be then it would not have happened.
Listen to his words folks
You also will get it if you think about the job that we have to do in this country as ONE people not TWO parties.

He's too busy picking out a puppy to worry about Senate issues! Come now, you know what priorities are, don't you?
His getting elected is a complete and TOTAL train wreck.

Ok People. His MOTHER was a citizen of the United States of America. There is no doubt about that It doesnt matter if he was born on the Moon, he is still a citizen of the United States by virtue of his mothers citizenship! End of story!

I see the right wing lunatic fringe of the party once called "Republican" is still intent upon groveling about in the fecal matter fomented and left behind by their leaders such as the convicted drug addict, Limbaugh, and the neo-nazi Hannity. Looks as though a large portion of that 46% of the electorate that were fooled by the sham perpetrated by the McCain/Palin campaign, will continue to be content with trying to spread their divisiveness rather than joining in the efforts to heal this country. I guess there are always going to be a percentage who don't, won't, or can't, get the big picture.

republican_pauli......I agree with you.
Obama is quitting the Senate now so he won't have to vote on the bailout. As always, Obama is looking out for himself.

Its EXACTLY like the one poster is saying. By RESIGNING Mr. Obama does not have to vote on the auto industry bailout or other issues that the USA has or needs IMMEDIATE attention from the Senate. Think of Obama as an EMT watching the patient die rather than help do CPR. He wont need to do CPR once the patient dies. The patient is the auto industry Ford, Chevy etc the people who got him elected. You think Clinton was 'Slick Willie'? Wait til you see how good Obama is at dodging the issues.

Obama didn't do anything for the murder capital of the nation.
Now, Bill Ayers book is coming out and he is referring to Obama as an old and close "family friend". A little different than Obama described it.
I don't care that they were friends, I care that he lies continuously. We have been fooled by a silver tongued politician. G-d help us.
Mr. Tapper, why won't Barack be going to his grandmother's funeral tomorrow?

It seemed like Mr. Obama didn't do anything or accomplish anything while spending a litle more than a year in Senate. Now he quits.

Go Biden. He's got two jobs! Must be a good guy. Most Americans can't find one.

Fact: Obama won with 53% of the votes compare to 46% for McCain. Thus close 64 million people voted for Obama compare to 56 million for McCain. Obama have 362 electoral votes compare to 162 for McCain.
Face it, Obama haters. Obama won, McCain lost! Get it over yourselves and get use to it.

Hmmm, isn't anyone going to point out that by resigning now rather than in January, as most thought he would do, Obama is neatly sidestepping the problem of having to vote in any upcoming lame-duck session. Kind of like his history of voting "present," huh? He does not have to go on record as part of any auto industry bailout plan or any stimulus package Pelosi and company come up with, so he can take credit if those things work and avoid blame if they don't. The man is clever-- I'll give him that.

Lucky Lucy:
I see that you appear to be an Obama supporter......I thought your suggestion was trying to bring back those who the media tagged as a drag on his campaign.....So, let's be real here....
United States Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr. would be a good choice....
So be it.....

"leaves a void"? That implies that Obama did something useful while he was a mere Senator. Not to mention he was never there, too busy campaigning.
As his modus operandi so far has been to apply run for higher positions without actually doing the job he was elected to do, I'm wondering what he can apply for next?

HE RESIGNED!?!?

Who would you suggest to fill the Senate Seat.
How bout Bill Ayers or Louis Farrakhan Jr.

Sorry Ike.
No, I know nepotism is here to stay. We can only try to minimize it.

Good luck with banning neptotism

"Associating him with his father or any other individuals is just wrong."

Fine. But give him no presumptive advantage because of his father. Which is the undeniably far more likely scenario. No one is gullible enough to believe his filial association hasn't mattered in his political career.
