Obama Resigns! (From Senate)

November 13, 2008 3:17 PM

President-elect Barack Obama submitted his letter of resignation from the U.S. Senate this afternoon, effective Sunday.

"It has been one of the highest honors and privileges of my life to have served the people of Illinois in the United States Senate," Obama said in a statement. "In a state that represents the crossroads of a nation, I have met so many men and women who’ve taken different journeys, but hold common hopes for their children’s future. It is these Illinois families and their stories that will stay with me as I leave the United States Senate and begin the hard task of fulfilling the simple hopes and common dreams of all Americans as our nation's next president."

The move, first reported by the Chicago Tribune, puts pressure on Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich to find a replacement for Obama to serve until 2010, the next scheduled federal election, as stated by Illinois law.

Obama's running mate, Vice President-elect Joe Biden, has yet to resign from his Senate seat, to which he won re-election for a seventh term on the same day he was elected vice president. Slightly more Delaware voters -- 257,484 -- wanted Biden to serve as Senator than the 255,394 who voted for him and Obama to lead the nation.

Ike:
"Your world hasn't come to an end because one of his father's relatives holds national office."

MY world hasn't ended because Bush has been in office for 8 years. Surely you don't think that is reason to want him back.

If Jessie Jackson,Jr is the more qualified candiate to represent ILL in the Senate why not give him the opportunity, Associating him with his father or any other individuals is just wrong. I have seen and heard him speak and he appears to be a very passionate and dedicated professional young man.
Lets give the young people of our nation the chance to continue the good that we know can come from our citizens. Let's not limit or label them. It is good thing that we as a nation can look upon any young man black or white and see possibilities in them. Just wish him well.

Um, bugg, are you aware that Jesse Jackson Jr. is already a member of Congress and has been since since 1995? Your world hasn't come to an end because one of his father's relatives holds national office.

Rev. Ike:
"Junior is very progressive, savvy and foreward thinking."
-------------------------------------
Perhaps so. But so are many other people. The last thing I want to continue doing is elect people because of their last name.

Hey Bugg...
that's not fair. Jesse Jr. is nothing like his dad.
REALLY. He came out against his old man early during the presidential campaign for dissing Obama. He would really be a good choice... Junior is very progressive, savvy and foreward thinking.

Tired of the Drama writes, "I think we're all doomed if empathy, common sense and an open mind are equally considered."
==============================

Go ahead. Keep downplaying the importance and significance of a good education.

As a Democrat, I do not want any relative of Jesse Jackson in national office. Jesse Sr. has been a parasite all his life. It has nothing to do with his race, but rather his character.

Besides we have enough nepotism in gov already.

"Jesse Jackson, Jr. would be a good senator for Illinois. He is well educated and is an accomplished public speaker."

Is that all it takes these days to be a Senator? A good education and experience in public speaking? I think we're all doomed if empathy, common sense and an open mind are equally considered.

"I can't wait to some of you find out that Jesus is BLACK"

Considering there is no non-religious evidence that the character Jesus ever lived, I would love to know your basis for that statement.

"He's a user." (Phew, sour grapes)

And most Americans apparently like the way they are being used.

We are going to have an intelligent and articulate President. Who woulda thunk?

....not to mention Bush & Co. sent our children off to die in war over Weapons of Mass Destruction...

If he really believed that serving in the Senate was really "one of the highest honors and privileges" you'd think he'd at least have finished his first term before running for president. The reality is that the Senate was nothing more then a stepping stone for him - and he didn't even do much work while he was there!

Wait and See...
Obama is a hero who will help heal America after 8 years of being pillaged by Bush/Cheney/Rove & their minions.

Looking towards the future! Praying for our President-elect

Let me run for Illinois Senate. I'll establish my political base at a racist church, get absolutely nothing accomplished, and then run for the POTUS. I'll inspire bunch of lazy, whiny, blame-everyone-except-me losers by pitching socialist ideology. obama maybe your inspirational leader, but to me he is a power hungry fraud of a joke.

@HaterSmasher

LOL You really believe the country is run by the President? You know nothing about Washington...

Posted by: RalphF | Nov 13, 2008 5:32:34 PM

All you losers hiding behind the anonymity of the Internet, with your own wretched lives, one paycheck from oblivion. You wish you could do in 10 lifetimes what Obama has done thus far in his.

Continue to eat your junk food, watch mindless reality TV, and shoot an animal or two. If Palin is your future, may God, Allah, and Prozac save you.

Obama abandoned his Senate job 18 months ago...so he made it offical today - this is news now? Big deal...
