Obama to Name Napolitano, Peña, Daley to Transition Team
November 05, 2008 12:00 PM
In addition to the three people who will be running President-elect Barack Obama's transition team -- former White House chief of staff John Podesta, Obama family friend/businesswoman Valier Jarrett, and Obama campaign chief of staff Pete Rouse, as first reported by the New York Times -- the Obama transition team will today announce some members of the transition team advisory board.
ABC News has learned that three of those members will be Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, former Clinton Transportation and Energy Secretary Federico Peña, and former Clinton Commerce Secretary William Daley.

I AM ACTUALLY PRIDE TO BE AN AMERICAN ONCE AGAIN. IT IS GREAT TO BE AN OBAMA REPUBLICAN JUST AS IT WAS GREAT TO HAVE THE REAGAN DEMOCRATS.

With so many of the Clinton-era players on this transition team, did we elect change or bringing back the Clintons. So much for fresh faces and new ideas. That's change we can't believe in.

Hey, THe American public has elected a New President. Move FOrward and get over whatever it is. THis election process happens every four to eight years. When we get tired of one party we elect the other. No big secret. Look at history. I knew whenever these campigns started TWO (uhg) years ago that whoever won the democratic nomination would be our next President.
The President& his Office (mostly)only have the power of persuasion. CONGRESS is Who We NEED TO keep an EYE on. They pack billions of dollar of add ons to every single bill that comes out of there. Guess who pays for all those add ons ? US! I have to tighten my belt to survive! So should our Goverment. If I don't have the money to spend I don't spend it. For crying out loud people wake up! All I ask of MY government is to be Honest with us(HA!Like that willever happen) and be mindful of who's money they are spending.

Tom, I feel sad for you who thinks that we should give Obama a hard time. NO ONE gave Bush a hard time...he caused his unpopularity himself by going into a war that wasn't necessary. Now he can't come out of the MESS, and Obama has to clan it up. Talk responsibly next time and get the facts right.
And for those out there who believe that a black president shouldn't be in the white house...I've got news for you.
If you THINK that YOU can do it better, GO AND RUN FOR PRESIDENT.

To all Democrats and Republicans alike. As a conservative white male democrat I have a news flash. There are more white people on welfare in America than African Americans. Ronald Reagan never went to war. Clinton never went to war. This country was founded by lawyers. The US government implemented policies that killed millions of native Americans so that we could enjoy this country without threat. Decades later we killed close to a million of our fellow citizens through civil war. We later killed 100's of thousands by dropping 2 nuclear bombs on Japan. Since then we have killed and mutilated millions men women and children over the spread of communism, socialism, tyranny and terrorism.
This is not what Jesus Christ had in mind. There are no teachings in the Old or New Testaments, unless your David Koresh, that can morally justify any of these actions. I hope that my God doesn't sanction any of this insanity. A true conservative looks 300 years in either direction and makes a sound decision for generations to come.
As far as the President is concerned, Teddy Roosevelt said it best;
"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

Some of your arguments are healthy and worthwhile, but leave God out of it. God would never weigh in on any of this stupidity.

Having been involved with both major parties at some point in time, I have to laugh at some of the comments here. Yes, the republicans demonized Obama. Yes, the religious right are over zealous. But I can't tell you how often I see democrats denigrating republicans and pretending they are better than them somehow because the democratic candidate was a minority. Making blanket statements like 'all republicans are bigots' pretty much categorizes you as one.

Republicans are such a bunch of losers and racists bigots. all you can hear is whining about America becoming a socialist nation. that is such nonsense and really shows that the country hasn't changed much.Republicans really emphasise race and that's really sad. Give the Obama a chance and see where he leads. Really if America can elect Bush TWICE, surely someone as intelligent as Obama can lead too.

Remaining Republicans and the 'far right' will do everything they can to inhibit progress in the Obama administration. I would hope that they would at least wait and see what Obama actually tries to do, but, in my heart I know they won't.
Republicans are reduced to many states that are sparsely populated. Obama & Dems will have to reach out to 'them' but I fear no matter what the Dems say...... it will be a hard sell.
After all this time of 'demonizing' Obama, Republicans will not change their tune quickly if at all.
If Obama is able to make a dent in the damage left by Bush & Cheney & Republicans, he will still hear the smears and invective of the far right.
Republicans have been good at winning, but, pretty lousy at actually governing.

Welcome to the Republic of Socialist America. God help us!

What we all need to do now is get behind Obama no matter what our differences and make this country what it once was. I know we can do this because after 9/11 this country stood as one people.
Jwench, with your horrible rhetoric towards republicans before the election, you could actually ask for our support. Not hardly.

Tom
I guess registering millions of people and getting them to vote is thuggish. I guess America is my gang and I am thug loving it.
Posted by: MM | Nov 5, 2008 7:39:15 PM
We have to watch this guy and not give him an inch. The same way he criticized every move of President Bush. We have to make things as difficult for him as he did for Bush. Obama will be the worst President ever! I hope his life is very difficult as everyone will hold him accountable for his Chicago "thug way" he won the presidency.

Barack Obama....President Elect of the United States......very SAD day for America and the freedom we enjoy. We will fastly become a socialist nation.
Sad, very, very sad!

I hope John McCain stays true to his word on working together as one. I think he will. Overall I don't think McCain is a bad man, he just listened to the wrong people and his choice of Palin was questionable.
Having McCain and Hillary in the Senate as champions for us I think that there is hope for both sides to put the country first and work together for a solution to our problems.
Posted by: Jwench | Nov 5, 2008 5:47:21 PM
Wow, what a pathetic lot the sore losers are. They are poor lost souls who lack the basic reasoning skills demanded of those who vote. Luckily, about 1/3 of McCain supporters are reasonable folks who will come around when they see how Obama actually governs. Just like Clinton had 65% approval even during his sex scandal, Obama will as well. But the wingnuts, they will never relent, even though most of them did far better under Clinton than under Bush.

Um. Janet Napolitano is a Democrat.
Posted by: TL | Nov 5, 2008 5:37:22 PM
Hey I supported McCain and after both speeches am actually feeling pretty good. People (well, the majority) were REALLY not wanting the republicans, in any way, shape or form, I get it! So be it. Maybe republicans should take some lessons for next round...that's how it works.
Some of these posts remind me of fans after the Superbowl complaining about bad ref calls. Of course, they are always on the losing side. They sound lame, too.
Both sides fought hard in this campaign, and political campaigns are not flower gardens...Obama's even was less negative than usual...so cred to him for the most part.
Obama won...and we look silly if we start whining about stealing the election/fraud/funding irregularities (as many dems did even after 2004). Hey, the right abandoned McCain right out of the box, so he got short-changed...not fair? Life's not fair.
I won't say, get over it, but McCain is saying, let's bridge the gap, and encourage cooperation. Will bipartisanship happen? I don't know.
But at least give the guy the benefit of the doubt before he does something you hate. And comparisons with the Soviet Union and Hitler are...inappropriate and bizarre.
And racist comments are pushing me back over to the dems, so you better watch out, you might make an Obama voter out of me in 2012.

What would you cry babys do if you were elected President of the US? Since it's apparant you think you know whats going to happen now that a Bi-racial person is elected President. Tell us all what would happen if a "white" person was put back into the Oval office. I'll bet you don't have a clue and I'll also bet you would'nt have a bad thing to say about him/her eithe.
Posted by: JOSE | Nov 5, 2008 5:14:51 PM
Some of these comments simply reflect twenty years of Republicans only being able to win by stoking resentments and fears and by playing American against American.
That's over. We're moving on and President Obama will focus on what we have in common rather than what keeps us apart. We're all Americans.
