Palin on McCain Aides Saying She Didn't Know Africa Is a Continent: 'Those Guys Are Jerks'
November 08, 2008 10:41 AM
Meanwhile, back in Alaska...
Gov. Sarah Palin, R-Alaska, returned to the 49th state and denied reports that during debate prep she didn't know which countries were part of NAFTA and seemed unaware that Africa is a continent, not a country, as Fox News's Carl Cameron reported.
Newsweek also adds that the shopping spending spree is even more troubling than originally reported.
An angry aide characterized the Palins as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast."
"If there are allegations based on questions or comments I made in debate prep about NAFTA, about the continent versus the country when we talk about Africa there, then those were taken out of context," she said of aides spreading that story.
"And that's cruel, it's mean-spirited, it's immature, it's unprofessional and those guys are jerks if they came away with it taking things out of context, then tried to spread something on national news. It's not fair, it's not right."
-- jpt
UPDATE: Steve Biegun, the former Bush National Security Council aid who worked with Palin on debate prep, defends her to the National Review and insists the NAFTA/Africa accusation is either a twisting of her words or a misunderstanding. And Jonathan Martin, too, gives this tale and Palin another look at Politico.

If I were her, I'd tell them, "Hey, you picked me, I didn't pick you. So stop you're whining!!!"

I really don't care anymore about the entertainment afforded by Sarah Pailin, or how the McCain campaign built her up as a hot political celebrity only to throw her under the bus. Where her accountability should lie should be in her inciting crowds several weeks ago, which produced, according to Newsweek and the Secret Service, a major increase in death threats against Obama. Nor am I happy that the forever publicity seeking Oprah has invited her to appear on her show. If Palin chooses to continue to be in the national spotlight, then she also chooses continued scrutiny. But at this point, I want no further scrutiny of her and wish she would just fade away and stay in the far northern regions of the planet. But then my wish is as likely as hell freezing over.

Woweeee!!!!
So Sarah Paline reassures us that she's not so dumb after all. She knows that Africa is a continent. (She probably looked at an atlas a few minutes before.) So NOW, she's qualified to run for president.
And then there's all that furor over the wardrobe. She's giving up the 5th Avenue wardrobe selected by the elitists of the RNC and she'll go back to Out of the Closet. How gay!!!! She shops at their clothing stores, but damns their souls.
Frankly I am sick and tired of Sarah Palin. Why doesn't she get out of politics and star in a soap opera. That's her real calling. I've even got a winning title (borrowed from Carol Burnett): As the Stomach Churns.

Well what do you expect from a bunch of cruel cowards? Integrity and understanding?
Posted by: danito | Nov 10, 2008 11:05:28 AM
Question: Is she truly the new face of the Republican Party? If not, Sarah seems to think so!
Posted by: Teacher2012 | Nov 10, 2008 10:59:56 AM
Sarah definitely knows Africa, she saw it thru the window on her way to Kuwait last year.

WWW, my answers to your questions (and I hope the censor allows the links):
- Was it a fake video of the witch exorcist casting the witchcraft out of Sarah Palin?
Your interpretation is incorrect. The video depicts a pastor asking for protection AGAINST witchcraft. This may seem culturally strange to us but for this pastor, who is from Kenya, it isn’t.
- Was the video of Palin asking churchgoers to pray that soldiers are being sent out “on a task that is from God” a fake?
That is an incomplete quote. The full quote is “"Pray... that our leaders are sending [our soldiers] out on a task that is from God. We have to make sure there is a plan and the plan is God's plan." She is not assuming that this is God’s plan but that she prays that this task is in God’s plan. Sort of like the Lord’s prayer says, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
- Was the video of Sarah Palin telling the secessionists “Keep up the good work and God bless you,” a fake?
I watched the video and can’t figure out what the big deal is. What was she supposed to say, “I hope you drop dead and go to hades?” There was nothing to that story as evidenced by the NY Times retraction of their assertion that she was a member.
- Was it a fake video of the town hall meeting showing Palin speaking gibberish about oil exports?
I have no clue what video you are talking about.
- Was the “you can see Russia” Charlie Gibson video a fake?
Again, taken out of context. Here’s the full exchange with Charlie:
“PALIN: I do believe unprovoked and we have got to keep our eyes on Russia, under the leadership there. I think it was unfortunate. That manifestation that we saw with that invasion of Georgia shows us some steps backwards that Russia has recently taken away from the race toward a more democratic nation with democratic ideals. That's why we have to keep an eye on Russia.
And, Charlie, you're in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors. We need to have a good relationship with them. They're very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.
GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.
GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they're doing in Georgia?
PALIN: Well, I'm giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia. We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it's in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along.”
- Was the “you can see Russia” Katie Couric video a fake?
I don’t have enough energy to look this up but maybe I should assume that once again the quote was taken out of context?
- Was the audio clip of Palin saying the legislative Troopergate report cleared her of “any hint of any kind of unethical activity” a fake?
Source please. And what unethical activity did they find?
- Was the video of the debate showing Palin winking and dodging questions a fake?
Well, take out the winking and I’d say that all 4 candidates did their fair share of dodging questions. And quite frankly, Biden had more errors of fact than any of them.
- Were the many videos of Palin’s stump speeches with the “thanks but no thanks” statement all fakes?
Can you provide some sources?
- Were the many videos of her stump speeches inciting the crowds with comments about Obama’s ‘terrorist connections’ all fakes?
Why does this upset people? Obama does have some rather questionable people in his past. You sure are bringing up a few about Gov. Palin so why should Obama’s associations be off limits? Ayers is an admitted former domestic terrorist and Obama did work with him. To what extent we will probably never know because that pesky paperwork of Obama’s keeps getting lost but they did associate with each other at some level.
- Was the audio of the prank phone call revealing a gullible, giggling, fawning Palin a fake?
She admitted that she got taken and the handler that allowed the call to go through has taken a remorseful stance. It’s unfortunate that she got punked but what can you do? I didn’t hear the actual call so I can’t judge her behavior.
WWW, believe me when I say that I am not a blinders-on Palin supporter. What I do believe in though, is fair treatment. I didn’t like it when people made a big deal out of the possibility that Obama is a Muslim. Number 1 – who cares if he’s Muslim? It’s quite an insult to Muslims to throw that around as a barrier to be President. Christianity does not have a lock on the White House. And Number 2 – It is a lie and shouldn’t be part of the dialogue.

I believe we all must move on from this story however, I will state that all of the people saying these things about Mrs. Palin worked with her day in and day out. Yes, they are probably not to happy to lose but what did we see during the campain?
But Mrs. Palin was sitting down during those telling interviews answering those questions by herself. We seen what she knows and don't know. On several occasions I was asking myself WHAT DID SHE JUST SAY If and I mean If the Republican party will bring her back in 2012 she will need ALOT OF study time.....

Betty "new puppy for the White House should be a Rottwailer and it's name should be "Lipstick".
I heardd that too I think hte suggestion was sent in by email and Charlie was just reading it.
I am so tried of the girl whining and complaining about the press and the way that they have treated her. Any damage done to Sarah Palin was do by her own mouth.

"I want to be able to help also Americans to know that they can trust their media," Palin said".
From another Blogger!
Sarah Palin is a walking disaster: intellectually incurious, ignorant on many issues, small-minded (remember the comment about "pro-American" parts of the country? Well New York City where there were countless heroes on 9-11 is one of the most Democratic cities in the country. Tell New Yorkers they aren't pro-American!), and shallow. That John McCain was willing to put someone so clearly unqualified a heart beat away is appalling.
Just happy she was not put into office and now we have to move on... We know she will resurface because she enjoyed the spotlight but it will not last long.

It is true that we need to get off this awful subject, and focus on how we, as a people, can unite behind our, (soon-to-be) president. I am hopeful for the future--I think, I am also realistic. President Elect Obama, is our last best hope for this country. Now that we have voted, we must now get ready to make substantial personal sacrifices for the good of future generations of Americans. We have elected a new president-- a transformational leader who has the intelligence, wisdom, courage, and temperament to lead this nation out of the wilderness. For all the importance we put on selecting a president--we not just sit back expect the government to "FIX US."I think we need to reinvent the way citizens think about ourselves and our government---it really is a partnership. Undoubtedly, President Obama will make decisions that will irk a certain number of people. Some of us will be affected more than others. But we are all in this together, and we must defer our personal agendas-- at least for the foreseeable future. The last guy who had such challenges also had about four terms to make a difference. But don't have 16 years this time. So, lets sweep the naysayers aside and get to work being good proactive citizens--led by this potentially great man.

I agree! The media was extremely too soft on Palin. Sarah made herself looked terrible not John McCain. . I just hope she resurface in 2012 because the GOP will ensure her disappearance from the national scene. She will be good for skits on "SNL" though! When she kept sprouting out ramblings and the inadequate answers that she was given America realized that she was a total mistake. Sarah Palin should have never been on any state yet alone the Republican Party. I could only assume Alaska picked her on a fluke.
Posted by: TedfromMO | Nov 10, 2008 10:15:55 AM
The media was far too easy on Palin. Here was a woman who could now be vice elect.
Forget the Africa story - there are even bigger fish to fry. She was clueless on the Bush Doctrine (Gibson); and the 700 billion bailout (Couric). Her appolgists continue to support her and say that she was mistreated by an unfair media. Please. You are either prepared or you were not. She was not. That is clear. The only problem now is that she is back in our state at her office in Anchorage instead of the capital in Juneau because that's next door to her home and then took 233 days of per dium last year while staying at her home.

I've always liked Charlie Gibbons. I defended him when friends said he was not good enough to replace Peter Jennings... But I really disliked the cheap shot he had for Sarah Palin when he said maybe the new puppy for the White House should be a Rottwailer and it's name should be "Lipstick".
Charlie, I am soooo dissapointed in you!
That was really low.

I am still amazed at Republicans and others believing Sarah Palin is the "new face/voice of Republicans"!
Sarah Palin is angry because she is ignorant! A video of women from Alaska stated that Alaskans expectations of their politicans is low. Well,, I believe them because Sarah Palin is the govenor!
If the Republicans want to talk 2012 and support Sarah Palin for their pick for president, SHE WILL NOT WIN!
Palin's appeal is only to the "hockey moms" and "joe six-packs"! That leaves out a lot of diverse people!
Obama/Biden '08

We need to start backing our new president and stop bashing all the politicans. The country voted for Obama. What a great choice. We are Americans and need to support him in OUR efforts to rebuild our country. The constant negative does not rebuild -it continues to divide our great country. Yes We Can!

I think that Tina Fey actually did Sarah Palin a favor. Because the SNL clips were played so many times, I am sure some people actually started believing that Palin was as sweetly naive as she was portrayed on SNL. The truth is that Sarah Palin is a crusty low class hateful politically opportunistic wannabe, with absolutely nothing to offer--but heartache. But again, she did not pick herself. She could have stayed up there in Alaska, and no one would have known about her-- except for some obviously very cynical people close to Senator McCain's campaign. Put another way, rattle snakes are really quite harmless if they are left alone in their own environment. So,the blame for Palin belongs on those who plucked her out of her native homeland.

And now that Jake is senior correspondent at the White House, ABC has returned to the practice of deleting posts that criticize Obama and present a strategy for the Republicans to come back.
Ominous.

America has chosen it's 44th President & it is what the media & most people here wanted. Let just wait & see how he delivers all the promises he made...I am not holding my breathe.
There is no reason or point to keep bashing Mrs Palin. She is not the 1st to run & lose as a VP...but there seem to be an under current to all this.
Some left wingers seem to be jumping on the grave of the dead & seem to enjoy doing so. It feels like to be qualified to be President of the US, onoe has to be a high powered Lawyer who can say too much & mean very little or nothing.
I respect Gov. Palin for having a clear view or opinion. I might not share them all but at least the Lady say it as it is...
I hope for the rest of the world & America's sake you voted the right guy in... otherwise we will all regret like we seem to be doing now about GW Bush.

I don't think people need to even consider information received from unnamed sources to make a pretty good assessment of Sarah Palin's grasp of the world. Her public statements are more than enough to define her particular BRAND. I think it highly iconic that someone so obviously challenged has never admitted one single instance where negative news was true. All of her apparent stupidity aside, it is her more than obvious hateful attitude that seems to clinch it for her. I am waiting for someone to ask her about how she feels to have been linked by the secret service to a surge in threats from white supremacy types against the President Elect. My guess is that she will just laugh it off as some unfounded rumor. But by GOD, after being told her effect on these people, if she does it again???
Freedom of speech is great. But inciting to riot is another.
