Reading Between the Lines

"HILLARYCLINTON.COM

"Dear Jake,

We are living in a very special time in American history, with an election that has redefined the boundaries of possibility and set our nation on a positive path with new leadership. Things are changing in Washington and we have reason to hope that the next four years will look much different and better than the last eight. As we look forward to a new era in Washington, there is still one piece of unfinished business where" -- PLEASE SEND MONEY SO WE CAN RETIRE THIS $#&* DEBT AND HRC CAN BE SECRETARY OF STATE WITHOUT BILL HAVING TO GIVE SO MANY SPEECHES THANK YOU  " -- Hillary needs your help. We need to do all we can to help Hillary by acting now to reduce her remaining debt. So in case you missed it last time: here is a great way for you to help Hillary once more -- and be a part of one of the most historic campaigns in our history. We've put together a video with some of the best moments from the campaign, including Hillary's speech at the Democratic Convention in Denver..."

"Sincerely,

"Capricia"

"U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) today commended the announcement of Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano as top contender for Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and made the following statement:

"Today, Senator McCain called and congratulated Governor Janet Napolitano on her emergence as top contender for Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Senator McCain said -- "  PLEASE NOMINATE HER SO I DON'T HAVE TO RUN A REAL RE-ELECTION RACE IN MY INCREASINGLY BLUE STATE THANK YOU  "-- 'Governor Napolitano’s experience as the former U.S. Attorney for Arizona, Arizona’s Attorney General, and as Governor, warrants her rapid confirmation by the Senate and I hope she is quickly confirmed.' Senator McCain looks forward to working with her throughout the nomination process."

"Statement from Penny Pritzker:

"Speculation has grown that I am a candidate for Secretary of Commerce. I am not. I think I can best serve our nation in my current capacity: building businesses, creating jobs and working -- "  YOU TRY BEING WORTH $3 BILLION AND NOT HAVING ANY VETTING ISSUES  " -- to strengthen our economy. It has been my great privilege to serve in the Obama campaign. I look forward to helping our new President in every way possible and am excited about the future under his leadership.

Thank you Jake for the bold type. Whereas it is standard operating procedure for the press to put words into people's mouths, it isn't often that they admit it.

I am hoping that with the pick of Janet Napolitano and the fact that AZ really is turning blue, that McCain will NOT be reelected to serve his 5th term as Senator. There should be TERM LIMITS set for both houses of congress to avoid the temptation of corruption among the members, but since that most certainly won't happen before McCain's committee to search out feelings about his reelection bid, let's just hope that enough Arizonan's were paying close attention to his vile and empty POTUS campaign so that enough won't reelect him. I would think that 4 terms in the Senate would be more than enough and that they would want someone younger with new and better ideas!

One of your best posts yet Jake! Could use a few more like this in these dismal times.

Apparently, our Greatest Leader was going to make another boneheaded mistake for spreading the rumors of nominating his family and political friend Pritzker as the SoC. I guess the public response and the private vetting (should it be wetting?) have neither worked well.

An early withdraw before coming out does not count as a mistake. So, we give him a break for not making this boneheaded mistake.

"Statement from Deep Release:

While most of the blogs found on ABCNews.com are reported in a straightforward manor -- " ADD MORE PIECES LIKE THIS MORE OFTEN " -- it is nice to see a little levity used when presenting the overly-covered mundane details of a multi-cycle news day."

Deep Release, Easily Amused

I swear, Jake, you may be developing insight.

My hope for this administration remains having a competent executive who defers the drama and the bright schizoid scripts and settles in to run a technically excellent government. So many of the things we need to do are a matter of applying the right solutions just in time, and yet that is as dull and twangy as a bluegrass concert.

Meat and potatos governance is what we need right now, you know, the kind that Harry Reasoner would applaud without needing Barbara Walters help.
