It sure wouldn't hurt my feelings if any of these candidates decided to put some real-life people into cabinet positions. I'm not talking about the 'insiders' group that is being assembled, rather top picks from all areas of consideration. The best CEO's, the best educators, the best scientist, and etc. I'd close the doors on the old crew from a failed economy and install new 'change' based choices.

For example; I would put Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams in place to cover the economy advisor positions and some qualified NASA scientist to watch over the global warmming deal so that we don't get bamboozeled by the rest of the world. You know, a gang of 'common sense' Americans that actually have respect for the Constitution's purpose and the spirit in which it was established and would actually uphold the oath to protect the American idea. Lots of yankee doodle stuff!

When world leaders retires or quit the stage they travel the world.Could anybody tell me what President G.W.Bush will do after leaving the White House in January 2009.
This is food for thought!!!

Strange the appointment of Geithner helped the market more than the election of BHO.

Posted by: Richard Nelson | Nov 22, 2008 5:33:14 PM

These are not his family friends ala Bush. He isn't appointing Brownies that have no clue what they are doing (See FEMA and Katrina). These are experience people that can hit the ground running which is exactly what this country needs. Obama is not putting in yes men, but rather those that can think for themselves and give him input. How anyone could think this is a bad thing is beyond me. But then how anyone can think that Bush's policies were good things is as well.

Posted by: Ordermonger | Nov 22, 2008 5:12:08 PM

Geez...imagine that. A President-Elect surrounding himself with competent, experienced people who know their way around Washington and the Congress and will be able to hit the ground running.

And there are an alarming number of pragmatic Centrist Democrats, too! Where are all the radical left wing terrorist sympathizers who were going to lead us down the road to a Marxian Dictatorship of the Proletariat?

Given that the GOP has a 61% disapproval rating, I think the spleen venters would be better off finding a way to broaden the party's appeal to people other than rural, southern and aging voters.

On the other hand, it's probably better for the rest of us that they content themselves with spreading vitriol on the internet.

Finally a team of truly capable people. We are really seeing the end of the Bush Error (Era). How nice!

Just another Clinton presidency. With all the drama, immorality, lies and we thought Obama would be his own man. Well, now we see that he did not have the experience. I think he could be but he want be so his experience will show again and again but Hillary will be the president and I truly think that is sad. I don't care that Obama is liberal, I just think Hillary is awful, always have and always will.

Posted by: Jane | Nov 22, 2008 4:38:23 PM

We should be so lucky if Obama replicates the Clinton years! Sure he campaigned on "change" but change is going to take more than being an idealist. I would have rather seen Hillary be the president, but since she's not, I'm happy to see Obama's handling things the way he is. Good grief people ANYONE's better than who we've had for eight years. And if you (are old enough) remember the Clinton years, they were the best of our lifetime. So if Obama brings back the Clinton years. YIPEEEE !!!!

Let's put everyone America voted down in the primary in the cabinet. Great creative idea. Edwards can be Sec of Morality !

Yes, experience does matter! That is why the very inexperienced Obama is choosing experienced people to guide his presidency!

But character matters too! Will the real Obama please stand up?

Another Clinton presidency or two might be work! :)

Keep in mind, folks of all political stripe, that NO human being can, overnight, undo the damage the past 8 years have inflicted upon America by the Bush administration. President-elect Obama is making selections for his cabinet based on a number of criteria, i.e., that they be individuals of proven ability; that they're willing & able to work as a team; that they are true public servants, that they aren't yes-men/women; that they are willing to be "open books" re any skeletons or ghosts in their closets; that he needn't fear to turn his back, etc. Obama isn't a formal sort of person, so it's equally important that his relationship with his cabinet extends beyond the confines of the Oval Office, say to the basketball court, or, if they have kids the ages of the Obama girls, their kids will likely be playmates with them, so the Obama as parents may relate to those cabinet members as parents all over do to the parents of their kids' playmates. Remember, the Obamas are humans; humans are imperfect beings, just as their critics are.

if ron paul had a clue, he should have sounded the alarm on george bush a long time ago, if he had maybe more reps. would have taken up the call and helped him get the word out to the american people that bush was no good.

ron paul did not have a clue then
and he does not have a clue or a crystal ball now.

give obama a chance.
he will not be as bad as bush has been on the country.

After seeing what the Democrats have done to this country over the past year.

I truly am Afraid.

The way they raped and pillaged the Government.

The way they divided the people and pitted americans against americans.

Set up for some bad things to happen.

Peter Schiff or Ron Paul for Treasury Secretary. They have predicted this collapse in the face of ridicule and laughter. Seems to me they are the only ones with a clue.

I think the Republican party would be better served by "introspection" instead of "inspection" of our not-yet-sworn-in President-elect Obama. As my mother used to say when I was younger, "Those who cannot DO kvetch!" Repubs - stop the finger-pointing, excuses, complaining, and criticism of the Democrats. Get your house in order!

Posted by: dlh | Nov 22, 2008 12:15:24 PM

I think most Americans are just counting the days down until Bush and his cronies are all out of the White House. I also think we know that, no matter who becomes a part of Mr. Obama's cabinet, under-performers will be replaced. Personally, I cannot wait to get out from under the weight of GWB's administration. We will all be the better for it!
