The Return of Samantha Power
November 28, 2008 8:04 PM
An eagle-eyed AP writer caught the fact that Samantha Power -- the highly acclaimed, Pulitzer prize-winning Harvard professor booted from the Obama campaign in March for calling Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, a "monster" in an interview with the Scotsman newspaper -- has re-emerged as a member of President-elect Obama's transition team.
Specifically, Power is listed as a member of PEBO's "agency review team" on national security.
The even more interesting wrinkle -- Power is focused on the State Department, which the aforementioned Ms. Clinton will likely soon helm.
Sources tell ABC News that Power has been on board from the very beginning of the State Department transition team, publicly or not.
A Democratic source says that Power reached out to Clinton after the election to apologize and it was "well received" by the New York senator.
Neither the Obama Transition Team nor Clinton's office is commenting.

Halli - There are more old Necons at Harvard than left-wing cronies. Yale too. They are almost like Ludites.
Every single position they held - world domination (China now owns us) nation-building (read about the murders of women in Basra under the Iraqi Sharia goverment), unregulated markets/trickle-down economics (looked at your 401K lately?); isolation vs allies (looked at the cost of Desert Storm, with allies, vs. the Iraq War?) filling the Dept. of Defense with chicken hawks and treating the Military Command like fools --- every single cornerstone of Irving Kristol's world scenario - was wrong and has failed. It will take years, if not a decade to turn the country around and we will have to pay for their mistakes while they summer at the Cape.

I'm glad she's back. Maybe officials statements about Powers/Clinton have not been issued - but unofficial ones certainly have.
There is a special Thursday on Cambodia, Rwanda, the Balkans and Darfur - and the American response to those massacres.
As for Powers and anti-semitism - accuse Desmond Tutu of the same thing. They have almost exactly the same position on Israel and Palestine.

Power is right about Israel and her return is a rare ray of sunlight in the eternal holy war to which the empire is committed in the Near East.

Would someone please document the accusations that Samantha Power is anti-Semitic.

Mr. Obama's economic team looks fresh, just as Mr. Bush's economic team was once fresh.

Powers is a vehemently anti-Semitic. The very notion that she is working for Obama again or ever shows the fears many had regarding Obama and his support for Israel have been legitimized. Obviously Rahm Emanuel is having no affect on Obama and his support for Israel.

IF NO SAMANTHA POWER, , , THEN NO HILLARY CLINTON
I can't remember the exact wording, but to paraphrase Ronald Reagan, "Thou shall not attack, trample, or destroy fellow party members; especially at the behest of the opponent party". First it was Hillary then it was Lieberman that broke the party commandments. Hillary did it when she publicly stated she and " . . .McCain (a Republican) had the credentials to lead the nation and all President-Elect Obama had is a speech from 2004".
Yet Obama has saw fit to include Hillary in the nation's highest cabinet office as Secretary of State. If Hillary's "skunk-spitting, kitchen sink attacks" can be forgiven, then Samantha Power comments is a non-starter. Time to move on!

In light of President-Elect Obama's forgiveness of Senator Lieberman for being the Party's Benedict Arnold, a noticeable act of forgiveness by Obama that "chilled the heels" of those who were rightfully ready to "politically lynch" Lieberman for his disgusting & disparaging remarks; - - - - - - I would say Samantha Power's return to the "Good Ship Obama" is both a heartwarming and welcomed addition to the transition efforts. Any other view of her return is a non-starter.
Go OBAMA-BIDEN!!! Let's get this party started!!

Why am I having an increasingly difficult time in distinguishing Hollywood from the Beltway?

I dont agree. Hillary is too smart to take a position where she will be boxed in and irrelevant. Sorry to all who don't like her, but she is the most powerful woman in the history of the country and not easily manipulated or pressured out of a position, as we saw during the primaries.

Concerned,
And I also particularly take umbrage with your callous manner with regards to genocide.
Do you know what genocide is? It pertains to the destruction of ANY ethnic group, REGARDLESS of their ethnicity. You don't have to be a Jew to be a victim of genocide.
If Israel is carrying out indiscriminate attacks that are killing more civilians then militants, I believe we should intervene- that doesn't mean cutting our ties with Israel, but we should not close our eyes to what is happening. There should be no double standards for human life- somehow you find it WRONG for Power to ask for UN intervention when human beings are being killed?

Concerned in OH,
Really, it's called DEMOCRACY.
Bush just squeaked by by two pts in 2004 and LOST the popular vote in 2000. And you haven't factored in all the problems with the touch-screen voting machines.
Now it's 2008. The black guy with the "funny name" who went to Harvard won the votes of almost 70 million Americans. He won the election by 9 million votes (and counting). His margin is seven points. It was a pretty clear decision, I reckon.
You can continue to sulk instead of trying to look ahead and give Obama a chance to prove himself before passing judgement.

I'm glad Power is part of the transition team. her work on genocide is impressive (i doubt any of her detractors have read her book---anti-semitism?---get real). i think it indicates that President-Elect Obama takes genocide seriously and that is a very good sign.

Jake, please stop using the PEBO acronym. The POTUS acronym is obnoxious enough. Please stop. I'll do anything you want me to do. What do you want from me in exchange? Just tell me.

Jake, if Sen. Clinton has accepted Samantha Power's apology, then why is this news?
Oh, that's right, it's gossip - and apparently, some Beltway journalists are clearly unable to discern the difference.

While I agree it's probably time to "move on" and not remain obsessed with one comment she made, it should not be forgotten that what she did say about Hillary Clinton was rather extreme & uncalled for. She rightfully was required to resign. If Hillary Clinton has accepted Power's apology, then that should probably be the end of it.

'Big-O does not want Hillary in his administration. On the other hand, he does not want her in the Senate'
I think you are right. Adding the General as his advisor and Samantha Power, both at odds with Hillary will make it impossible for her to make a decision on her own. The General will be able to override her, thus controlling her every move. BAD MOVE Hillary.

the truth of the matter is:
After these eight years even Laura Bush is saying "He maybe my husband, but he is NOT my president, either."
Heck, even George Bush will be glad to tell us "I am NOT the president"

"And to steal the liberal rallying cry of the past 8 years:
He's not MY president!"
I hear ya, Concerned. Who in the heck does this guy think he is, getting nominated fairly by a wide majority of the nation? The nerve of some people!
