An Actual Press Release from the Office of Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Florida

December 03, 2008 6:30 PM

Verbatim.

And yes, her office misspelled the names "Barack" and "Emanuel."

"December 3, 2008

"Miami, Florida --- Cong. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen thought it was a hoax when President-Elect Barak (sic) Obama called her twice today and she proceeded to hang up on him, twice.

"Ros-Lehtinen was working in her South Florida district when she received a call on her cell from a Chicago based phone number and an aide informed her that President-Elect Obama wished to speak to her. A gentleman sounding like Obama introduced himself when Ros-Lehtinen cut him off and said that 'I’m sorry but I think this is a joke from one of the South Florida radio stations known for these pranks' and hung up.

"A short time later, Cong. and Chief of Staff designate Rahm Emmanuel (sic) called Ileana and stated 'Ileana, I cannot believe that you hung up on the President-Elect.' Ros-Lehtinen told Rahm that she didn’t believe the call was legitimate and hung up on Emmanuel (sic). A staffer to the Congresswoman informed her that Chairman Howard Berman of the Foreign Affairs Committee needed to speak with her urgently. When Chairman Berman called, Ros-Lehtinen urged him to recount a story only both of them would know, which he did, and told her that she had indeed hung up on the President-Elect.

"The Congresswoman then received another call from Obama and he told her 'It is very funny that you have twice hung up on me,' to which she responded that South Florida radio stations are notorious for these jokes. Obama told her that in Chicago they also have prank calls. Ileana told Obama that 'you are either very gracious to reach out in such a bipartisan manner or had run out of folks to call if you are truly calling me and Saturday Night Live could use a good Obama impersonator like you.' After she congratulated him for his victory and pledged to work together on behalf of all Americans, Ros-Lehtinen asked Obama to please consult with Senator Bob Menendez and Congressman Albio Sires on Cuba policy and to rely on Secretary of State designate Clinton on Israel, two issues about which Ros-Lehtinen feels passionately.

"Ros-Lehtinen talked to Hillary Clinton by phone yesterday and also discussed Cuba and Israel."

And, this kind of stupidity from democrats is a surprise to whom? Fifty-seven percent of democrats, interviewed on election day, did not even know that democrats control both houses of congress.

That is why it proved especially unconscionable that our mainstream media acted, in unison, as Barack Obama's own personal public relations agency.

marcy ponds,

Pelossi, Franks, Rangle
Pelosi, Frank, Rangel

How well do you know them/their stand on issues? Not too well, I suspect. I would imagine you would have been familiar with the spelling of their names if you were used to looking them up. At least your post if somewhat related to an issue raised in Jake's post.

This is so funny. Listen, Ileana is a good woman. I am a life long Democrat who lives in her district. She is open minded, especially on Gay issues and has done a great job for the Florida Keys and South Florida. Cut her some slack!

what an idiot.

Marcy - to quote you - "if a Repub is dishonest we turn him out" - I disagree - case in point Bush v. Gore in 2000, and then Bush over Kerry, 2004. Both times, textbook examples of cheating, certified by the UN. The evidence was clearly documented by the U.N. as requested by the parties at the time during the recount, one of the only US elections to ever have UN observers requested present during a recount in the history of the UN. And not by the agreement of the Bush team, but by an agreement brokered by both parties via prior Secs of State for both sides (Baker and Christopher). Bush only got in b/c (by a split decision) the justices knew it HAD to end. So pls - save your comments about dishonest republicans being booted from office for another time and place, since we've just endured 8 years of one not being booted. How can a person claim the office of president when after the election, there are UN observers requested during the recount? Not exactly what I call a mandate or even a plurality.

The thing that is interesting Marcy is that this push-poll asked questions to which there was no correct answer, such as "Are you are that Barack Obama is a Muslim", etc. And you republicans eat it up as fact. Amazing.

Marcy - What Zogby poll are you talking about? That's ludicrous - Obama won BECAUSE the voters understood the importance of the issues, not b/c they were clueless. And why are you complaining about the rules that keep the democrats in office? They are the same voting rules that put Nixon, Agnew (wonderful chum he was), Bush 1 and 2 and the ever so colorful Republican, Jesse Helms in office. What gives? Both parties play by the same rules and you can't say the dems are the corrupt ones in light of those republicans just mentioned since they are the brightest lights of the dimwits.

Posted by: Hold on! Gotta comment on this one! | Dec 3, 2008 9:35:42 PM

Interesting that the zogby poll showed that the Obama voters had no clue about any of the issues. It has been my experience that Repubs have much more education and knowledge than the vast majority of Dem voters. Naturally Dems think they are smarter..and yet look who they keep in office: Murtha, Pelossi, Franks, Moran, Schumer, Durbin, Rangle, Jefferson, the list goes on and on..one corrupt person after another. If a Dem cheats he gets elected by a landslide...if a Repub is dishonest we turn him out.

Marcy - I'm not trying to be mean - but nothing fazes Gov. Palin b/c she has no discernable intelligence. Hard to faze someone who does not understand the sentence she began.

Posted by: You betcha! | Dec 3, 2008 9:21:09 PM

HAHAHAHA!

Sarah's vein stupidity has other republicans 'on guard'! Too funny!

And what a refreshing change to learn that the spelling errors were due to republicans (once again) displaying that they don't read/write on a regular basis. (It isn't just the h1b interns of ABC that do that!)

Makes perfect sense!

Gov Palin has unhinged the left of course..but the effect she has had on the elite/inside the beltway RINO's like like Noonan and Parker is very gratifying. Flush um all out..I say. Know thy adversaries. Nothing seems to faze her. Guess it is because she made it on her own merits without help from hubby or parents or money.

Posted by: marcy ponds | Dec 3, 2008 9:15:06 PM

Marcy - couldn't have been a democrat b/c we loved her.

Posted by: You betcha! | Dec 3, 2008 9:08:17 PM

My comments were taken off...must be a Gov Palin hater monitoring this site

Posted by: marcy ponds | Dec 3, 2008 9:02:50 PM

It would not have been that big a deal, except that despite all of this, she STILL manages to have her press release of the event misspell BOTH their names. Makes you wonder if she is intentionally insulting them. Well done, Rep. Ros-Lost-in-Space (sic) for making a fool of yourself and revealing a real case of sour grapes. You were my inept representative in Congress when I lived in South Florida(sadly), you continually embarrassed yourself the entire time I lived there, and I am VERY happy to say I have moved and therefore, you no longer represent me, and I mean sincerely, thank God for that. There are more issues facing Floridians in your district than Cuba - has anyone ever told you that?

Posted by: unbelievable | Dec 3, 2008 9:02:31 PM

I see maybe once but twice?

Posted by: rachel | Dec 3, 2008 8:35:30 PM

oh my god buzzie, i can't believe you took this out of my mouth! lol this goes to prove that sarah palin wasn't the worst thing to happen to America. at least, he owes obama one.

Posted by: lupercal | Dec 3, 2008 8:26:27 PM

Concerned in OH...I agree with you! If he called me, I would first laugh at his "Agenda", then hang up!

Posted by: Thateldoo | Dec 3, 2008 7:49:28 PM

grow up - this is actually a fun story with a good message. Be happy we have such a mature President Elect. Be happy they got past it and now have a little history that can be built into a productive relationship....

Posted by: chipo1965 | Dec 3, 2008 7:45:22 PM

What I'd like to say, I had better not say, aside from total stupid. Glad she is not my rep.

Posted by: Ranger Phx | Dec 3, 2008 7:32:09 PM

Ileana has the exact same temperament that Sarah Palin has. It's logical that the FL congresswoman would not like to be a big butt of jokes from fun loving radio dj's like Palin was to her own dismay. Too bad, both ladies could be a tad more feminine than the angry, ankle biting, yip-yap personae they have cultivated for the public. JMOHO.
