Blago Attorney Says He's Not Guilty, Not Resigning
December 15, 2008 9:35 PM
From Matt Jaffe in Chicago:
Minutes after the end of his meeting this evening with embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Chicago defense attorney Ed Genson proclaimed that the governor is not guilty, will not resign, and instead will fight the charges against him.
"He's not stepping aside," Genson told reporters outside his Chicago office building. "He hasn't done anything wrong. We're going to fight this case."
As ABC News reported earlier today, Genson confirmed that he is now representing the governor.
When asked why, Genson replied, "Because it's interesting. Because I think that this is another one of those cases where the press has just taken control and the media has taken control and I think the case is not what it seems and I think that when it comes to pass, you'll see it's not what it seems and you'll find that he's not guilty."
The swarm of reporters stated that even President-elect Barack Obama has called for Blagojevich to step down.
"Everybody has an agenda," Genson continued. "I don't think the incoming president of the United States has anything to do with this case, but the media suggests that he has and as a result, it's made the case a lot more important than I think it should be."
When asked if Blagojevich could get a fair trial, Genson responded, "We'll see."
Blagojevich has not spoken to the press yet. He left Genson's offices just before his attorney did, saying that he was looking forward to talking to the general public.
"I can't wait to talk to you guys and to have a chance to be able to say the things I'm looking forward to saying," Blagojevich said. "But there's a time and place for all of that and I'll, uh, we'll soon let you know when it's gonna be."
Attorney Sheldon Sorosky, who represented Blagojevich at his court appearance after his arrest last week, exited the building alongside Genson.
"We hope he can get a fair trial," Sorosky said, noting that at the moment Blagojevich is "coping" with the situation.
Sorosky added that the governor can "absolutely" do his job effectively.

Too bad Obama (I voted for and support....) made the mistake (he is not perfect either...) of letting the "media" drag himself into this. He should have said NO COMMENT, or as Bloomberg (Mayor of NYC) would say - (something like) "let the judicial system handle this"... and not give HIS opinion or two cents. I guess in time President Elect Obama will learn he doesn't have to give up his dear friends (pastor) or turn on others, to make NEW friends in politics. EXAMPLE comes from the TOP (to our kids...) and that is do NOT give the MEDIA too much rope (power), give it back to the JUDICIAL SYSTEM - and get rid of the corrupt in that system (ones that let VP Cheney off the hook when he was indicted by a jury for a CRIME...)!

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?
Glad the guy has got an attorney now. It was not the place of the media to play judge and jury. Shame on those that convicted him based on HEARSAY, and before
he had a fair trial.

Cheney says that 'Obama and (Gorebull hot air) are the two biggest frauds ever."
Should read "two of."
For his throwaway leaves out the traitor, Roosevelt's, new scam, (AKA "Deal") his biggest in the history of our species Ponzi scheme, (AKA "social insecurity") Lyndon Johnson's Ten Trillion Dollar, "great" society and Jimmah Carter's, Billy-Bubba Blythe's, Andrew Cuomo's, Chris Dodd's, Bwarney's Frank, Joe "The Bankers'" Biden's and B Hussein bin B Hussayn bin Hussein Muhummad Ubama's (Collectively: 'the "Democrats"') 2008 monetary crisis.
All of which has left our nation Absolutely (to the tune of around an unfunded liability of around SIXTY TRILLION DOLLARS) insolvent.
Bust.
Broke.
Bankrupt.

"i think it's code for it got delayed for every reason other than the one you propose, but seriously you write brilliantly, your conspiracy could almost sell!"
You deniers are beyond the beyond.
He was convicted June 5th- thats 6 months ago. And he still has not yet been sentenced.
Go google "Resko talking". There are news stories that say that they reference a footnote in the wiretap transcripts.
The AP agrees with me:
"U.S. District Judge Amy J. St. Eve's action today in erasing Rezko's Jan. 6 sentencing date appeared to signal that his on-again-off-again relationship with the prosecutors investigating corruption in Illinois government was on again."
and
"While prosecutors have been tightlipped about the rest of their relationship with Rezko, they generally do not want to have a cooperating witness with a criminal conviction hanging over him sentenced until after his cooperation is complete.
That way they can judge how much of a break he deserves at his sentencing. "

BertieW---you should write mysteries for a living.
"Thats code for he is talking and when the prosecutors have racked up a tally of inditements they will come back to the judge and tell him how helpful their boy has been and how he should just get probation."

"What's not to believe!? The guy is obviously being wrongfully accused. Hey, only half of the last eight governors have now been charged with corruption, etc. He's got a fighting chance!"
*chuckle*
Innocence by flip of the coin, Wade?

It would be nice if the scum just admitted they were scum every now and again, rather than fighting their way to the jail cell. A costly, taxpayer funded trial? You bet. Acquittal? Maybe not too likely, I dunno..

"All the ranting about Rezko and how he was going to "sing" and implicate Obama is a huge bust."
The Washington Post and the Chicago Sun Times disagree with you. They report that he is 'talking' and that his sentencing date was just today 'indefinitely delayed' by the judge. His lawyers did not asked for a new date.
Thats code for he is talking and when the prosecutors have racked up a tally of inditements they will come back to the judge and tell him how helpful their boy has been and how he should just get probation.

All the ranting about Rezko and how he was going to "sing" and implicate Obama is a huge bust. He is in jail. He implicated no one but Blagojevich.

Obama is pure, clean, and brilliant.
So brilliant he sees nothing going on right in front of his face--completely clueless.
BO isn't corrupt but virtually all of his associates are. His friends, mentors, the polticians he campaigns for-all shady or corrupt.
I hope Rezko and Blagojevich sing loudly. One day Obama's luck will run out.

Now calm down everyone.
Maybe Blago conducted his own internal investigation and the result of it is that he and his staff have done nothing wrong! Which is exactly what he originally said- and now he has proven himself right!
In the interests of transparency he will release the relevant portions of the report to the public. When Fitzgerald says it is ok. Unfortunately at this particular time you'll notice Fitzgerald hasnt said its ok.
Until that time the general public should remember that everyone is innocent of everything, and please stay on the message of the season, which is saving the environment through riding charted trains around in circles.

All this ranting about Illinois corruption is a tad hyperbolic.
According to The Corporate Crime Reporter the most corrupt states are 1) Louisiana, 2) Mississippi, 3) Kentucky, 4) Alabama, 5) Ohio, 6) Illinois, 7) Pennsylvania, 8) Florida, 9) New Jersey, and 10) New York.
Heaven forbid...the top four most corrupt states are in the Bible Belt!

Listen to the "Chicken Little's" scream AGAIN the sky is falling in reference to Obama. Funny
You cynics are so miserable that you losing your home and your job just in time for Christmas is not enough misery for you. You NEED to have Obama associated with this, huh?
Well, as times before, times now and times to come, Obama is always above the fray.
C'mon Chicken Little's. You can do better, can't you?
