Bobby Rush: Senators Blocking Burris from Senate Would Be Like Bull Connor and Other Infamous Racists of Yore

December 31, 2008 11:04 AM

Count Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., as one supporting Gov. Rod Blagojevich's appointment of former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris to the U.S. Senate.

"My prayers have been answered, because I prayed fervidly that the governor would ... appoint an African American," said Rush, per the Chicago Sun-Times. "We need to have not just one African American in the U.S. Senate. We need to have many African Americans in the U.S. Senate."

"Let me just remind you that there presently is no African-American in the U.S. Senate," Rush said at the Blagojevich press conference yesterday. "I will ask you to not hang and lynch the appointee as you try to castigate the appointer. I don't think that anyone -- any U.S. senator who's sitting in the Senate right now -- wants to go on record to deny one African-American for being seated in the U.S. Senate."

This morning on CBS, Rush upped the ante, comparing the prospect of the U.S. Senate refusing to seat Burris to Orval Faubus, George Wallace and Bull Connor blocking the progress of integration and civil rights.

"I'm sure that the U.S. Senate doesn't want to see themselves in the same position," Rush said.

In defiance of the Supreme Court, former Arkansas Gov. Faubus, a Democrat, in 1957 ordered the National Guard to prevent African American students from integrating Little Rock Central High School. Former Alabama Gov. George Wallace, also a Democrat, proclaimed "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever" and spent much of his life preaching racism. Former Birmingham, Alabama, Public Safety Commissioner and Klansman Theophilus Eugene "Bull" Connor, also a Democrat, unleashed dogs and turned fire hoses on peaceful civil rights marchers.

When it was pointed out that President-elect Obama -- who unsuccessfully challenged Rush for his congressional seat in 2000 -- also believes Burris should not be seated because of the Blago taint, Rush said, "all these folks who are opposed to Gov. Blagojevich, they need to take a chill pill, we are still a nation of laws." He predicted "the U.S. Senate will have to accept him."

All of this is a huge turnaround for Mr. Rush. On December 9, the congressman said, “I believe that the acts that are alleged to have been committed by the Governor are so heinous that he has forfeited his right to appoint someone to fill the seat of President-Elect Barack Obama. My bottom line is that the Governor should not be the one to make the appointment to this important office."

Keep this nonsense up if you want more and more people to realize that PEBO is part of the same Chicago political cesspool of palm-greasing thuggery!

So stop making fools of yourselves Reid & Company! Gov. Blagojevich is no worse than any other Chicago politician including PEBO and most of the cronies now in the Senate or should I say Congress!

The U.S. Senate needs to accept Roland Burris "

Racism is the bame of our society and it will eventually cause our country to errupt like an active volcano. Its a dirty shame that government officials continue to use racism for political gain. I don't know why we don't make government positions at the gubernatorial, congressional, senatorial and presdential levels volunteer positons. Let these scoundrels serve our country on a volunteer basis, leave when the term expires, so they can go back to their jobs and work for a living like the rest of us. Their corruption, deceit and continued violation of the public trust has gotten out of hand. I'm really fed up and don't believe we should take it anymore!

Thinking: Let me just remind you that there will be no African-American president this time around.

PEBO had a Kenyan father who deserted him but he had a Caucasian mother, and he was raised white!

Michelle is black but she wasn't elected anything! :)

The next 4 years will be fun with all of the far left liberals fighting one another and Obama throwing them under the bus. Hopefully, all of those voters who wanted "change" are paying a little attention, and realize they were duped elected Obama who is more like Bush than anything else.

Bobby Rush is just a sad, despicable, racist.

Peace Train: Where would you rather vacation? Hawaii? Or Illinois where the high today is 16 degrees?

Obama has handled Blago so well that Putin and Assad must be licking their chops for a go at him.

We have just elected another complete idiot. It will be 4 years of events spinning out of control.

Rush is a hypocrite.

Just like drug-addict Rush Limbaugh is a hypocrite.

This is really shameful! Rolland Burris is a LOSER and an OPPORTUNIST!! The idea that he, Blago and Rush would try to muddy Barack Obama with this mess to settle old scores is really shameful. This time next year, no one will remember their names....NOBODY!!! And Barack Obama will STILL be the President!

Rush is a racist ... someone should tell him that choosing someone based on their race is discrimination.

What good does Illinois have for Obama anymore? Nothing. He used those fools for what he wanted---he got it--and now he's vacationing back in his "home state." Did you think he'd vacation in Illinois? Fuggedaboutit. Why do you think he's so quiet on the issue, it's denial, he gets what he wants, moves on. Illinois has been used like a $2 call girl. He's just going back there this weekend to pack his carpetbag and take this traveling sideshow on the road. Blago's time is running out, but he's going to make a lot of folks sting before this is all over baby.

please,

let me remind you it is GEORGE BUSH
who is allowing the slaugter of the pal.
not obama.
why does GEORGE BUSH get such a pass?

he is still the president, all other presidents worked to help this country right up to the day of departure,
why are we not being more vocal about GEORGE BUSH just coasting?

GEORGE W. BUSH IS THE ONE LETTING THE KILLING HAPPEN.

Blago is the real hero if anything, the guy has exposed Obama and his fellow Dems for what they are--spineless.

Obama avoids confrontation--by voting "present," by deferring to Fitzy's "ongoing investigation," as well as hiding under Senator Harry Reid's skirt by "agreeing with Senate Democrats."

Obama has ever taken a position on anything. He can't even decide on a puppy.

Posted by: Peace Train | Dec 31, 2008 1:52:09 PM

Go Dems! OK, let's stop elections all together and appoint more blacks, women, hispanics, union leaders, abortionists, global warming advocates, and anyone else who supports their liberal agendas.

Let me just remind you that there presently is no African-American in the U.S. Senate.

Let me just remind you there will be no Anglo Saxons-Americans in the presidency.

Blago 2 Obama 0

Posted by: Peace Train | Dec 31, 2008 1:06:59 PM

Oh PLEASE! This guy needs to be quiet. Who does he think he is speaking for? Democrats? Illinoisans? African Americans? He really needs to keep quiet or lose his seat next time around, which i predict will happen.

The Chicago Tribune's John Kass, the go to guy on Chicago politics says with the appointment of Burris, Blago thumped Obama and the Senate Democrats:

Tuesday's fiasco could have been avoided. Democrats in the state legislature could have stripped Blagojevich of his appointment powers and imposed a special election. Obama also could have demanded it. But as he has done so often in his career, Obama avoided a confrontation and looked the other way.

Democrats tried to finesse this, and they allowed Blagojevich the opening he needed, to hold that news conference and defy everybody. And so I'm forced to tip my hat to Gov. Dead Meat on this one, for sheer brazenness.

He's no jester. And it takes guts to keep a straight face while Democrats about you are losing theirs.

I think he also signaled Fitzgerald -- It's going to be even harder to find a Chicago jury willing to convict him now.

A charade! Again I say this is the method Harry and the dems have decided to use now that they realize Blago will not step down. The media is being used as a tool to put this act by Blago foreword as defiance of the party in order to avoid a special election in Illinois for this senate seat.

The quid pro quo on this would be interesting to know. The stakes are a senate seat and Blagos prosecution. Once again the voters of Illinois have been duped by the machine. Wonder if Blagos lawyer is tapped by Fitz.
