Obama on Blago Inquiry: 'Do You Have Another Question?'
December 16, 2008 2:27 PM
ABC NEWS' SUNLEN MILLER REPORTS:
At today's Chicago press conference, Obama was pressed by only one reporter out of four about embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
The president-elect cut the Chicago reporter off -- claiming that he didn’t want to “waste” their time –- before they could finish a question about Blagojevich.
“Do you have another question?” Obama asked, indicating the reporter should move on to another subject.
However, the reporter continued, trying to get Obama to remedy a seeming conflict between Obama’s “hands-off” approach dealing with the Blagojevich investigation and his promise for openness and transparency.
“The U.S. attorney's office specifically asked us not to release this until next week,” Obama said of his Transition Team’s internal investigation that has yet to be made fully public, “The facts are going to be released next week. It would be inappropriate for me to comment.”
The Transition Team will make their investigation available on Dec. 22nd, which will confirm who on Obama’s staff communicated with Blagojevich. No one on Obama’s staff is accused of any wrong-doing by the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Obama said he has not confirmed the Chicago Tribune’s reporting over the weekend that his incoming Chief of Staff, Rahm Emmanuel, had a conversation with Blagojevich’s staff.
“I haven't confirmed that it was accurate,” Obama said as Emmanuel looked on from the side lines of the press conference, “I don't want to get into the details at this point.”
When asked about the fight in Illinois over the method to choose his replacement for his vacant Senate seat, Obama refused to take a side.
“I've said that I don't think the governor can serve effectively in his office," Obama said, "I'm going to let the state legislature make a determination in terms of how they want to proceed.”
Yesterday the House of Representatives put off special election legislation, but moved forward with an impeachment panel that met for the first time today in Springfield.

They were quoting Emanuel himself. Is Rahm Emanual now a right wing source.
Spin all you want:
-Obama had no contact even though there is a picture of him shaking hands
-Obama didnt know him even though he is responsible for getting him elected.
-Balgo must be crazy, pay no attention
- There was no staff contact even though Rahm talked to him 21 times
- He isnt allowed to comment even though he is
- Axelrod "knows" they've spoken except he mispoke
-Obama cant comment about the NY Senate because he "has enough trouble with Illinois", but he isnt involved
- News reports that Obama has discussed the appointment with Blago vanish
- Obama wishes he could respond, but he cant (but he can!)
- Obama wants to get all the facts out- but that will have to wait until he is 3000 miles away
-Obama sure hopes no one "wastes their question" in asking about this. Lets get back to important matters like does Joe know about those crazy decimals! And who has a better jump shot.

Some outside authority questioning
the virginity of Obama? Let's have
NONE of that! Move along....nothing
to see here......

Jake,
Since the Obama invasion into DC, the
"political punch" seems nary more than
a sassy love-tap.....with angora gloves.

BertieW,
"From Political Punch on December 9th: [snipped] If Obama and Emanuel were 'top strategists' then they worked closely on it."
Hahahahaha! Mediamatters dot com has some news for you about the "facts" reported on Political Punch. Surely you can do better than quote from an entertainment blog?! If you want facts, you've got to see Stephanopoulos's reporting. It used to be the other way around, but ABC has apparently played musical chairs with their staff to see which one fits where best before lay-offs or more H1B replacements.
See what they stuck Jake with (right-wingers that drove their radio affiliate down to nearly defunction).

From Political Punch on December 9th:
"According to Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., Mr. Obama's incoming White House chief of staff, Emanuel, then-state senator Obama, a third Blagojevich aide, and Blagojevich's campaign co-chair, David Wilhelm, were the top strategists of Blagojevich's 2002 gubernatorial victory.
"
If Obama and Emanuel were "top strategists" then they worked closely on it.
Obama, Emanuel are significant reasons that Blago is the governor.
If you go back and look Blago ran on Obama's theme of change and everyone other than him is corrupt.

Obama and Emaunal being self described as the chief architects of the reason that Blagojevich is Governor in the first place and meeting weekly with him during the course of the campaign means that you worked closely with him.
"Do I have to post Emanuel's quote again and embarrass you?"
Emanuel told the New Yorker earlier this year that he and Obama “participated in a small group that met weekly when Rod was running for governor. We basically laid out the general election, Barack and I and these two.”
Wilhelm said that Emanuel had overstated Obama’s role. “There was an advisory council that was inclusive of Rahm and Barack but not limited to them,” Wilhelm said, and he disputed the notion that Obama was “an architect or one of the principal strategists.”

"I'll take "What is Obama worked closely on Blago's campaign for Governor?" for $1000, Alex."
In the right wing world of lies, being an informal adviser on a campaign 6 years ago means you worked closely on it.

No, it was George Bush who was the most oblivious 'dupe' AND the biggest liar ever to be President.

Finally a reporter with some guts. Love it!!

"Like everything else, news reporting needs to change with the times. New audience. Get it?"
New President, so the press needs to go soft?
You guys are really something.

The reason you think Obama is involved in the Blago scandal is:
I'll take "What is Obama worked closely on Blago's campaign for Governor?" for $1000, Alex.
Posted by: drjohn | Dec 17, 2008 9:38:46 AM
Let's see. Jesse Jackson was an informant for the USA's office for ten years. Blago wanted a $25K contribution from Jackson, and when Jackson didn't come across, Jackson's wife was denied a job.
Jackson knew for ten years that Blago was a criminal.
Oblivious Obama, on the other hand, worked hand in hand with Blago on his reace for Governor, knew NOTHING?
Wright. Rezko. Blagojevich.
Obama never knows ANYTHING. ("That's not the Hot Rod I knew.")
He is either the most oblivious dupe ever to be President or the biggest liar.
Pick one.

F. All of the above

seems like the gov. position was just a front for blago.
his real job has been shake down king.
told jesse jack, jr, his wife could have a job as lottery director. if they paid him 25k, and then blago told jjj
she didn't get the job, because you did give the 25k.
this guy is a disgrace. and who would believe anything he has to say now?

"The president-elect cut the Chicago reporter off -- claiming that he didn’t want to “waste” their time –- before they could finish a question about Blagojevich."
Claiming that...? Why does ABC need to spin everything negative when it comes to Obama? How'd that work out for ABC News Radio this year? In case you don't know, CDL is down 91.26% for the year and is currently facing delisting.
Like everything else, news reporting needs to change with the times. New audience. Get it?
Posted by: Common Sense | Dec 17, 2008 7:03:23 AM
Mr. Pebo, Why did you put Blago into the Governor's seat in the first place?
Did not you and your now CoS single handed, excuse me, double handed, planned his first election?
Is it not your yet another boneheaded mistake causing the good people of Illinois another Chicago-style headache?
Resign before it's too late.

If only the press had badgered Bush as much when Bush started the war on Iraq, refused to help the poor and devastated in Katrina, abused our Constitution and the outright lies and crimes committed by the Bush Junta, maybe America would be in a better place than it is now after 8 years of GOP nightmare. Is this a Republican slanted US press? You betcha. Let Bush and his mafia skate by and punch Obama to the ground with these Blagojevich innuendoes. I'm disgusted with our partisan, biased American media. These dogged questions to Obama just prove me absolutely right.
Posted by: buzzie | Dec 16, 2008 11:41:21 PM
Why is Obama investigating himself and his staff? Shouldn't that be done by someone who isn't directly involved? The press is right to keep asking questions.
As for his arrogance... The press thought Obama was just so smooth and "cool" before, either that or they labeled anyone raising questions about Obama's demeanor as "racist" to shut them up.
I guess the MSM are going to have to get used to it. He hasn't even been sworn in yet.

"BertieW---the conversation between the prosecutor was a private conversation. and it's impossible to prove a conversation didn't happen.... why can't you come to terms with the fact that the President-Elect is cooperating with the prosecutor by delaying his report until next week"
Ok, you guys have to stop believing all the daily spin at a stock tout's web site, and read things that may challenge you (those uncomfortable facts that Ryan C calls 'lies').
The press asked Fitzgerald to confirm his request that Obama delay his report, and he did. Its not private. Its in the papers. He asked him to delay releasing the report until next week. Because the report would contain information that is not known to Blago and the general public at this point.
He did not ask him not to comment. There is no evidence than any prosecutor asked him to avoid question from the press.
You guys are thinking of when a criminal defense attorney advises their client not to comment. For instance, see Jesse Jackson's statement to the press.
There is no reasonable answer to the question that Obama was asked today that would have caused any harm to the case. Both Blago and the general public know the list of names that was given by Team Obama to Blago- one because it is in the wiretap transcripts, and two because the Chicago Tribune published a story about it. There is no reason for Obama to withhold an answer or to falsely claim that "he hasnt confirmed that".
"And if he is innocent, Obama, and his Office Of President Elect will apologize to Governor Blago, and the American people, for falsely asking for his resignation."
Unless the wire tap transcripts were doctored there is no circumstance under which Obama should apologize. It doesnt matter if the case gets thrown out, evidence get excluded or a jury returns a 'not guilty'. Its obvious what was going on, its appalling and Blago and his group need to go.
