Obama to Nominate Bill Richardson as Secretary of Commerce

December 02, 2008 2:53 PM

ABC News has learned that in Chicago Wednesday morning, President-elect Obama will announce that he's nominating New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson to be his Secretary of Commerce.

This brings to three the total number of primary opponents Mr. Obama has officially moved to put in his cabinet, including Vice President-elect Biden and Secretary of State nominee Hillary Clinton.

Also, for those of us keeping tabs with the diversity abacus, Richardson will be the first Latino named to the Cabinet.

I wanted Richardson as the SOS, but I think he'll do better where we need him most (in Commerce). Lord knows the Clintons screwed up commerce!

Hmm, which is catchier? Clinton/Richardson 2016, or Richardson/Clinton 2016?

Richardson is a master negotiator as indicative of his work as a Congressman to bring Americans home from harms way, a master deal maker which has resulted bringing innovation and high-tech jobs to the State of New Mexico (ask the many New Yorkers that have moved to New Mexico in the last eight years).

The Cato Institute, has consistently rated Richardson as one of the most fiscally responsible Democratic governors in the nation. Vetted by two administrations and already has a security clearance.

If Richardson accepts the Commerce position, One can expect to see Richardson deliver results.

Now all he needs to do is hire McCain and Palin and he should have it all taken care of. Palin could head up Energy and McCain????

It will be cold, but I hope the sun shines all over the nation on Jan 20th,
so we can all feel there are brighter days ahead,
the world will feel it too.

everyone knows, although many will not admit it, these last eight years have been a #### for this country.
and the only thing we can say good about it now that it is almost over is
"it could have been worse"
After that first debate bush had with gore,
many thinking people hearts sunk, because we had a glimpse of what we were about the get. and we got it.
i am glad it is almost over.
i don't think it is all everybody hopes obama does well, i think after this last eight everybody just hopes something will happen that we start our country back on an upward climb.
and i think this collective struggling will make this country stronger.
it will not silence the naysayers and bigots, but i hope it will be a cause for them to pause for a minute, and try to get their act together.
life is to short, and there is so much to be done.
we need everyone pulling together.

it really is a good time to be alive.

it think it is brilliant
our country needs this.
after eight years of such either neglect or incompetence, or if all of this was planned-evil.

we need to have people who are smart and competent and caring. and that is what i think we are getting with all of our new govt. officials.

just brilliant.

better and brighter days ahead.

What is Richardson's experience with commerce?

Posted by: MayBee | Dec 2, 2008 3:10:01 PM

Having run against his primary opponents, he's in a unique position for knowing their strengths.

I really like what Obama has been doing. I know this will be a tough year coming up with all the problems this country faces, but I can't help feeling optimistic about the Obama Presidency.

"This brings to three the total number of primary opponents Mr. Obama has officially moved to put in his cabinet"

Wow, it's almost like many of the most well known, competent and experienced Democrats ran for President. What a shocking thought.
