If he had said the same thing about a man it wouldn't have made news...in fact, we would have thought, 'Oh he's really dedicated to his job, and isn't that what we want for someone in Homeland Security? I do.'

Well, Ed could have said something worse, such as:

"I thought Obama wanted a WOMAN for the job. Instead, he had to settle for Janet!"

I like observing the hypocrisy of the `liberals' on this forum, decrying some remark someone made about not `having a life', with the two-month onslaught launched by the MSM - and yes, it was a sexist assault - against Sarah Palin.

Certainly, any politician deserves scrutinty, but unfortunately, Palin was the only one was scrutinized.

This is the most stupid excuse for news I have ever heard. I'm not a big fan of Rendell but what he said was not offensive, it was just the truth. I don't see the problem. I guess some people are just hyper sensitive. If I were a "talking head" I don't think I could cover this story.

IMO, I see nothing wrong with Rendell's commemt. When I was single, I devoted every day, 24/7, to my job and didn't want to do much of anything else because I loved my work. It d*mn sure beat dating deadbeats.

As for Palin, I saw no sexist treatment of her. In fact, she was the sexist with all her 'come-hither winks' and 'you betcha smiles' which were meant to evoke the 'stupid' male response and succeeded more than not. [One reporter affilated with the NYTimes even went to far as to state those gestures of her 'made him sit up a little straighter on the couch because he just knew she was looking and talking directly to him']. OMG, someone get me outta here; that's how ignorant I believe her to be! What a crock! She knows exactly what she is doing because she has done it most of her adult life and gotten where she is currently due to it. She believed it would work on a national level since it worked so well for her at the local level, but someone forgot to tell her national and local are two completely different animals [or moose]! She's one of those women who flirt with men until she grabs their interest and then gets p*ssed at them when they try to make a move - come on ladies, you know the type; certainly not a Napolitano or Laura Bush. Furthermore, Palin is out for Palin and skrew anyone who tries to get in her way. Since she does not possess the intellect God gave a moose, she has to use the only 'talent' she has learned and that is nothing more than a con job, but until men figure it out, she will continue to employ it to her advantage. She is trying to cover up the fact that she does not possess the intellect of a high school child and that weapon she deploys [which has thus far worked for her] seems to get the job done in having people ignore the fact that she is ignorant. We can only hope the electorate will smartem up in 2012 and not fall for the con!

Coming from Ed Rendell, who -- like Janet -- is a workaholic and great public servant, the comment was almost a compliment. The subtext: Janet will be terrific in this role because her job is very important to her!

People with high-pressure public jobs are a unique fraternity. Ordinary citizens who punch a clock at 5 p.m. each day just don't get it.

PhillyPaul - I agree that he was good for Phila., but he has been a DISASTER for PA. He doesn't understand that there is a whole state between Phila. & Pittsburgh - and that our needs are FAR different from that of those citites. He's another one who promised all sorts of things & has followed through on NONE. Like I said, I'm still waiting for the gambling revenue to make it to the school districts - which he forced to accept the money- after 498 of 501 school districts turned it down because of the strings attached. He turns around and coerces the state legislature to make it a law the districts MUST accept it, along with the strings. Now the districts are forced to abide by the rules, but where is the money???? I was half-hoping Hillary would win the election & get his sorry self out of PA.

Hmm... so maybe people with kids at home shouldn't hold public office? Apparently, if you have kids, you can't devote yourself to your job properly.

Maybe people should have thought of that before electing a president with small kids.

Sounds like he was telling the truth. I sure agree. I used to have no life, and I worked a lot harder, got more done. It's just a fact. People who are dedicated to a task like many politicians are, often have no other life. It's a good thing when they're working for you. And for them - it's their choice.

Rendell and Napolitano are perfect for each other. They are both a couple of liberal losers. Man I love watching the "party of change" get caught with their pants down. Look out California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. Wait until Napolitano and Obama get ahold of the illegal immigration issue together. You think this economy is in the sshithouse now, wait until these two phase out border security and give amnesty to 30 million plus illegal criminals. So much for WORTHWHILE change!

If anything, the press gave Palin a pass. Put her under REAL grilling instead of those kinder interviews and she will melt. One way to fight sexism is to stop blaming failure on it but acknowledge it but without making every little thing an issue about it.

P.S, Can Palin go back to Alaska and start doing her job again? Her constituents are starting to get annoyed she has yet to step back in her office.

Palin deserved to lose, and I bet a woman like Napolitano would hardly be perturbed. She is smarter and tougher then Palin, for one. A comment like having no life won't even ruffle her.

I listened to what he said, and HOW he said it; it was no dis, he wasn't trying to be insulting or funny. Just speaking off the cuff, speaking freely. I'd bet the Governor (J.N) was non-plussed by the remarks.

Listen Rendell is entitled to voice his opinion. So what he is a man who said what he thinks. Geez lets not crucify him for these harmless comments. Not everyone feels the way he does.

For all the posters who never lived in Philly or knew Eddie when he was Mayor, listen up: Ed Rendell was the best thing to happen to Philly in decades. He took a budget deficit and turned it into a surplus. He fixed up and opened ALL the public pools so that kids had a way to cool off and stay out of trouble in the hot Philly Summers. He is a guy who is not afraid to show his back hair and dive into a public pool if it means good PR. He worked harder than any Mayor Philly ever had, including Frank Rizzo. When he speaks, honesty fall out of his mouth. He meant no disrespect toward Napolitano or her life partner. She is tough and a great cabinet pick. Yeah Phillies!!!
