More on the President’s Bipartisan Super Bowl Party (Ds and Rs; Steelers and Cards Fans)
January 31, 2009 10:16 AM
No news yet on the hops that will be served at President Obama's bipartisan Super Bowl party this Sunday.
Will it be Pottsville, Pa.'s finest -- Yuengling? Or perhaps some cases of Bud (gack) purchased from Cindy McCain's Phoenix wholesaler?
But we do know some more guests who will watch the Steelers face off against Cardinals at the Super Bowl Sunday from the elegant confines of the White House. They include Pennsylvania's two senators -- Republican Arlen Specter and Democrat Bob Casey -- as well as Sens. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.
Casey, I have it on good authority, will be bringing to Chez Obama tomorrow Steelers Terrible Towels (the rally flag for the Pittsburgh team) as well as smiley cookies from the legendary Pittsburgh drive-in Eat'n Park.
Pennsylvania Reps. Charlie Dent (R), Mike Doyle (D), and Patrick Murphy (D) will no doubt jokingly square off against Arizona Reps. Trent Franks (R) and Raul Grijalva (D).
Others in attendance include Reps. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., Artur Davis, D-Ala., Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., Paul Hodes, D-N.H., Fred Upton, R-Mich., and Delegate Holmes-Norton, D-DC.
Elsewhere, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) and Arizona Gov. Janice Brewer (R) have placed the customary wager -- but with a twist.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that if the Steelers win, "some lucky Steelers fan will get a super duper, all-expenses-paid trip for two to Phoenix, including three nights at the landmark Wigwam golf resort and spa, two rounds of golf at one of its 18-hole courses, dinner at a fancy restaurant and two seats at a baseball, football, basketball or hockey game in the City of the Sun." The winner will be chosen by an essay question.
If the Cardinals win, two Arizonans will spend three days in Pittsburgh, "staying at a luxury hotel, riding on the Duquesne Incline, dining at the LeMont restaurant, getting tickets to a Pirates, Steelers or Penguins game, and visiting the Heinz History Center, the Warhol Museum, the Mattress Factory and a performance at one of the Cultural District's five theaters."
(Insert joke here about if the Cardinals win, two Arizonans get to spend three days in Pittsburgh. If they lose, the Arizonans have to spend the full week there. Thank you! I'll be here all week. Try the veal.)
Who you rooting for?

Obama is probably not constitutionally eligible to be POTUS. Getting the Supreme Court to issue a definition of the term, so that we can be sure that we have a legitimate president (see Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution), has been impossible so far. The press has ignored this issue, and I think it needs to be carefully examined.

While certainly a large hurricane, Katrina was by no means the largest, nor the worst natural disaster in terms of loss of life. I was a child when Camille hit.....it hit in Augusr; my aunt didn't get her power restored til Novemeber! People then understood better that sometimes, you were just on your own, and the government could only do so much. But with 24 hour news now, and a wide-spread mentality that believes everyone should have answer to every problem instantly, and that instead of taking care of your self, you should rely on the government to take care of you, I can understand why you think it was the largest disaster ever. There have been worse disasters, and there will be other disasters, and the government cannot save very single life, prevent every single tragedy, nor respond instantly or perfectly.

Mandy - Please tell me what previous disaster you are referring to in your comment "That kind of crisis"? If I recall there has NEVER been that level of disaster here in the U.S. before.
"THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE FROM BUSH'S KATRINA RESPONSE THAT WAS WAY BEHIND THE FRAME-WORK DISASTER PLAN FOR THAT KIND OF CRISIS....

Obama likes to party! Biggest inauguration party ever, weekly cocktail parties at the white house for members of congress, super bowl party. Par-tay, Par-tay. He's now set for life, so I suppose he has a reason to party.

I hope Obama had a really great time while those people in Kentucky are freezing and still without power.
Obama is the bestest thing ever!

Thirty citizens have died in the midwest storm the past few days. Obama signed a request for FEMA. Where is FEMA? And why is Obama not consoling the families of those who have died? Nothing. No statement, no flyover, no FEMA. Is Janet Napolitano at the Superbowl partying with the Arizona team instead of dealing with this emergency? Does she have Obama's Blackberry email address?

And Bush declared the area a disater area three days before the hurricane hit. I am not faulting Obama, I think he's doing fine. There's only so much you can do in natural disaters. I guess I am faulting the press and the people on the ground during Katrina for not having enough sense to figure out that neither the National Guard, Red Cross nor the freaking President could get in to help til the water receded. But everyone chose instead to believe that no one would go in 'cuz they hated black folks. I am wondering why the same logic isn't being applied to this disaster. I'm no Bush fan, but it's clear that this President will be held to a very different standard. Which is probably a wonderful thing, because they were wrong in much of their treatment of Bush.

LET ME JUST SAY THAT THE CURRENT FEDERAL RESPONSE TO THE ICE STORM IS STANDARD AND WAS DONE "BY THE BOOK".....THE WAY IT IS "SUPPOSED TO BE DONE"..... THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE FROM BUSH'S KATRINA RESPONSE THAT WAS WAY BEHIND THE FRAME-WORK DISASTER PLAN FOR THAT KIND OF CRISIS....

I don't watch Fox, I prefer ABC here, but maybe you ought to watch something that actually reports what is going on everywhere, Angie....the rural areas are still without power and heat and running water. The Arkansas National Gaurd came through my mother's area of Arkanasas this morning to hand out water, and are hoping to help get the roads cleared so power can be restored. NO one is whining that they didn't get there any sooner, either....they are just patiently waiting it out, unlike the hysteria that gripped NOLA and the press after Katrina. I don't fault Obama for having his party; people need to understand that crap just happens soemtimes, and nothing can be done about it. But I do think the outcry over Katrina was absurd, and I have to agree that it's amazing there is no such outcry now, nor for the victims of the Midwest flooding last year, which was far wider spread than Katrina.

Man, some people have short memories.
Bush nearly choked to death on a pretzel watching a Super Bowl....and if it wasn't for his freaking dog....we might have avoided the worst eight years in U.S. history.

Bush was Just having Birthday cake and a Big Birthday party for Mccain while people were Drowning in the Streets! Now as President Obama has done all he can do for the Storm victims, atleast he didnt wait 3 or 4 days to respond like Bush did to Katrina. And lay off fox news People are not Freezing in the streets most of the power is back on and most people have been evacuated and placed in shelters!

One would certainly think that his "Chicago toughness" could be put to good use bringing some hot food to my 68 year old mother or one of the other 850,000 people who sit in darkness tonight, with no heat, electricity, or running water, as the tempertature stands at 29 degrees. Even Bush wasn't watching sports and drinking beer while the Katrina victims were struggling, and at least they weren't in danger of freezing. For shame, Sir.
Posted by: Maria | Feb 1, 2009 2:03:55 AM
Joe, fair enough, but after all the grief President Bush took for not going to New Orleans within an hour after Katrina struck, when people were at least in temperatures that could sustain life, it galls me no end that President Obama gets no bad press at all for sucking down beers while in over a million people in Arkansas and Kentucky are in temperatures WELL below freezing with no heat or power or running water. 10 times as many people as Katrina, at far greater risk of losing their lives....where's the outrage??? Where are the helicopters full of press swarming all over, where are the Hollywood stars screaming that the President hates white people, or this would never have been allowed to happen? Where are the $2000 ATM cards? Nope, Commrade Obama gets to party all day, no flying over Arkansas or Kentucky to see the damage firsthand...no siree, he's got beers to drink. You know what else is missing from this picture??? Looting. Raping. Anarchy. NOne of that is going on. Quite a contrast, all the way around, really.
