January 21, 2009 7:55 PM

Chief Justice John Roberts came to the White House tonight and administered the oath of office to President Obama at 7:35 p.m. ET in the Map Room.

"Because there was one word out of sequence" in yesterday's oath, explained White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, the president took the oath again "out of an abundance of caution."

Only people in the room were President Obama, Roberts, Gibbs, WH communications staffer Katie Lillie, WH photographer Pete Souza, and four print reporters.

"We believe that the oath of office was administered effectively and that the president was sworn in appropriately yesterday," White House counsel Greg Craig said in a statement. "But the oath appears in the Constitution itself. And out of an abundance of caution, because there was one word out of sequence, Chief Justice Roberts administered the oath a second time."

President Obama was seated on a sofa when the pool reporters walked in to record the event.

"We decided it was so much fun," Obama joked.

Then Obama stood.

Chief Justice Roberts then put on his robe.

"Are you ready to take the oath?" Roberts asked.

"I am, and we're going to do it very slowly," Obama said.

Total running time of new oath: 25 seconds.

Roberts said, "Congratulations, again."

Now that Obama is president I was asking in this blog if the "affirmative action"discriminatory law will be removed or even adjusted

Posted by: pat | Jan 26, 2009 2:24:47 PM

So now we have a Black president, good,so can we remove now this discrimanatory law calls "affirmative action"???????

Why is it that no report mentioned the name of the four news organizations invited to witness the event? For historical record, who are the four journalists in the room? Which four news organization and how are they chosen?

Come on people. I saw Obama did put his hand on the same Bible that Abraham Lincoln did. 2nd time around why did he need it?

May be it was just to remind Obama of his birth certificate fraud.
Even if it is and who is in the right mind would admit that? He didn't admit before and why now?

He wants to be President and his birth certificate has no Hospital names, and
the Liberal democrats are dying to win the White House regardless their candidtae is a criminal or a liar or not, so let it goes and move on. 4 years in the White House is not for life like King of Thailand or Queen of England or the world's craziest dictators anything.

Just that Million Americans including I are still believing that Obama is not a legitimate Prez, Obama is the 1st affirmative action Prez; Obama and his racist-baiting.....

And I could careless of what these people say or think of me. I was Libertarian now I am a new and proud Republican.

you take away the bible? well, now i know what will happen over the next four years.. maybe that is one of the reason why your country fall.. be careful obama.. just wait God actions into your lives.

God help all of us....maybe if the Bible was used more often we would have peace amongst man. No one wants God around anymore unless they need Him. No one wants Him in school, the work place, sporting events and now pledges and oaths. And then you ask why He isn't around when you need Him? Where is YOUR miracle? You told Him to get lost....now deal with it alone.

My name is Ionut Neata and I a romanian national. I lived in the United States for about 12 years. I am currently in Romania awaiting to receive my green card wich is taking longer than I expected. I believed in the Republican Party ever since I got in the US and I still believe now.
The Deomocrats came out with a "miracle" in the past couple of years and that "miracle" is Barak Obama. I believe that Dr. King's dream finally came true many years. To all the republicans that posted negative comments on this site and all the other sites: Get over it. We lost and that is that. Give this man a chance and let him run the country. So what if he is african-american. He is a human beeing just like the rest of us. The whole world looks up to him and I wish him nothing but the best. God bless you all and may God bless the entire WORLD. Ionut Neata aka: John , Bucharest,

To those concerned about the use of a bible, not only does the Constitution not require the use of a bible (as many here have pointed out), it actually prohibits any requirement for a bible..

Article VI, paragraph 3:

"... no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

Note that this does not explicitly prohibit the use of a bible, but it makes it very, very clear that one is not needed, as if the actual oath itself did not make that clear enough.

C'mon. Liberals have to pull themselves together and stop demanding that Roberts be removed from office and/or jailed.

Obama's the President, get over it, stop being a horror of a human being, and get real.

This is a great time in our country. A time when regardless of our beliefs, we are One. Hate it or Love it, we are the United States of America. We have a responsibility to Our democracy to Follow this Elected Leader on the path that is set forth for all of us. We have the Obligation to allow Our President the chance/ Opportunity to better this country.

We revel in our Right to Vote. We must abide by all that comes with that.

This is a Great Country. An ever Evolving country, this is what sets us apart from the rest of the world. This country, of course, makes mistakes. The beauty of our constitution is not merely the fact that it was written it is the fact that it allows for change. Our Constitution has Amendments to allow for Evolution of thought.

So, know this: We are the United States of America. We are United in a common Goal. Those of you who cling to the hatred of the past, the hatred from the initial Constitution, I think that you need to know that those views in OUR country have been Amended. They are no longer useful.

This is the United States of America. You are apart of it as am I....So in words forever etched into history by our

President Barack Obama:

"......we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist."

Even if you are not ready We Will Unite around you and behind you so that if this shift in consciousness leaves you unsteady, We Will catch you.

With Love, Peace, Joy and Unity.

Jaylah, instead of getting their 15 minutes
of fame, they should get 15 minutes of shame. Posted by: spacerook1 | Jan 22, 2009 10:06:19 AM

Or perhaps they should have very large dunce caps placed on their heads and be forced to go sit at the busiest intersection in town during rush hour.

Okay, you left wingers, get your defense ready for the onslaught of drivel and nonsensical rhetoric that surely will flow forth from the likes of the Limbaugh and Hannity lunatics questioning the validity of Senator Obama becoming President down the road. Your defense will be the fact that this justice, a right winger, and one whose confirmation to the Supreme Court was voted against by Senator Obama, flubbed the oath as a last ditch effort by the Limbaugh, Hannity lunatics to undermine the Obama Presidency. Hey! I can sound just like Limbaugh and Hannity, proposing such an asinine notion. But, it will probably come up when an action by President Obama finds disfavor with this pair, who are so intent upon undermining the United States Government.
