What Reagan inherited was much much worse and if you dont think so then you were obviously not alive then.

US of A: You dont leave a deficit to the next administration- you leave a debt. And budgetary power lies with the COngress... but keep repeating your Kos talking points.

It is sound creepy.

DonG

what Reagan left was another massive deficit..
amazing how the Republicans are the ones who leave the biggest deficits to the next administration

Joe
thank Bush for your dark future and 4200+ dead Americans and New Orleans still in ruins

It is absolutely unbelieveable how deaf we have become in the final hours of the Bush ripoff years. Here we have Obama telling us how bad it is and
people are standing around in DENIAL.

America's infamous apathy has been replaced by ignorance. If America sits frozen and unwilling to act against the adverse economic condition that is worsening daily, the recession will tailspin into a depression.

Since most people (especially congressmen and women- Democrat or Republican) aren't accustomed to identifying wha hard times look and feel like, they are unable to discern if one is around the corner. Then when it is too late, they will say, "We should have seen it coming."
We don't deserve Obama. He is too smart for us.

What Carter left Reagan was far worse than this statistically, inflation, unemployment, interest rates, were all higher then. May be that's why Reagan won all but one State in his whopping landslide and Obama won far less?

Posted by: DonG | Jan 9, 2009 1:15:54 AM

No hope, no change? And he is not even president yet.

Posted by: Tina | Jan 9, 2009 12:35:31 AM

Obama started talking today on CNN, and I changed the channel. He is all doom and gloom now. I dont want to hear his talk about all this dark future for America.

Greg h

- maybe the media likes Obama because they finally realize what they participated in over the last 8 years giving Bush and Cheney a free pass,
now the media understands what a corrupt, loathsome infestation the Bushies are..

"Reagan inherited a similar situation, even worse"......
John, this penchant you neo-cons have for rewriting histroy is getting a little scary-as in that's exactly what totalitarian ideologically regimes do.
What Reagan faced was nothing compared to this situation. Compare the economic data. Don't forget two current wars.

Man I can't beleive I voted for Obama.... this is change????........... starting to feel alittle creepy... hes acting like a puppet or something... WHAT HAVE WE DONE FOLKS!!!!

Posted by: Gman | Jan 8, 2009 11:23:14 PM

We have everything to fear, including fear itself.

Not as smooth or as inspiring... What happened to hope? Did hope just get thrown under the bus?

Posted by: Roxie | Jan 8, 2009 10:10:33 PM

But this "fear" from Obama is backed up by the sheer facts of this economy. This is the worst economy since the Depression and the job market will get worse before it gets better. You've gotta sell the stimulus with something...

Posted by: matt | Jan 8, 2009 9:51:08 PM

Mr. Obama keeps saying this is not the country he knows, then goes on putting it in the negative light so that he will look good. The country that I know always faces adversity at every single point in history. The country that he knows is not the one he wants to grow up in.

Posted by: young_voter | Jan 8, 2009 9:40:19 PM

Of course he's going to continue to lead-by-fear routine. It will keep the people obedient, and grateful for every little bit of improvement.

He did learn well from Bush...

Posted by: Laughing Cynic | Jan 8, 2009 9:32:59 PM

Seems like Obama is relentlessly trashing the economy and driving down the confidence in order to get his stimulus plans passed.

When GW Bush did the same in 2000 the media went after him, now Obama is doing the same thing but the media seems to love it.

Posted by: Greg h | Jan 8, 2009 9:30:29 PM

I would like to hear a little more in the way of encouragement, which he gave a bit of by laying the blame at Corporate board rooms and Government and then saying we got into this and we can get ourselves out of it. However, when one person tells a bad story the next person makes it a bit worse when they tell it and down the line it goes until people feel like taking what money they have and tossing it under their mattresses.

Warning! Haste makes waste!

Posted by: david | Jan 8, 2009 9:11:38 PM

john - So sad, don't want to listen. Are you sure you voted for him. I myself voted for Dr. Paul who has already stated how bad it's going to be.

Posted by: Huh | Jan 8, 2009 9:04:52 PM

Everytime Obama opens his mouth lately, its all about doom and gloom. I know things are bad, but Reagan inherited similar situation, even worse, but his speechs were inspirational and hopful for America. He gave assurance that the best days are yet to come.

Obama is depressive and I dont want to listen to him anymore even though I voted for him.

Politics of Fear?

Can we still use that expression or did it go out with the Question Authority bumper stickers?
