Pres-elect Obama Coming to Hill Monday

January 01, 2009 10:35 PM

ABC News has learned that President-elect Obama will come to Capitol Hill to meet with congressional leaders Monday to discuss ways to revive the U.S. economy, including through a multibillion-dollar stimulus package.

This will be Obama's first meeting with congressional leaders since winning the election.

While some of the logistics are still being worked out, sources tell ABC News that the president-elect is planning to meet on Jan. 5 with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

As of Thursday night, plans were for Mr. Obama to then hold a bipartisan meeting that will include Pelosi, Reid, House GOP Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kent. Republican congressional aides said that nothing had been scheduled yet, though there had been talk of a meeting with the president-elect.

The economy will be the main subject in these talks, sources say, though other aspects of Congress' and the president's legislative agendas will be discussed.

Government healthcare cannot and will not work .This doesn't work because the government is not fighting for business. They don't need business .This means that there is no reason for the healthcare to be good. In our country there are many different products, companies services, ect. to choose from. the companies are always competing to make their business, product, service, ect better. (CAPATALISM) An example is X company Vs. Y company. X company wants to make their service/products better and more Profitable than Y company. So they compete to make their product or service better(considering price and quality, how much money it cost to make this product or improve this service). The government is not competing with anyone. No one is paying DIRECTLY for it so they cannot demand better healthcare because someone will say to bad you are getting this free. The government does not need people to use their healthcare which means they have no reason for it to be good. This means IT WILL NOT BE GOOD HEALTHCARE.

I've frequently have wondered how a resident of Hawaii finds his way into the political machine in Illinois.

Hey Jennifer – the Supreme court has also “picked up” two other cases to determine if NASA faked the moon landing and if the Lizard People are actually running the world.

Posted by: CaliRules | Jan 4, 2009 5:00:40 PM

that's awesome.
then i guess i wonder why the supreme court still picked up the case?

Posted by: T | Jan 3, 2009 5:11:58 PM

"When the Wizard says, “Bring me the broomstick of the Wicked Witch of the West,” Dorothy and crew are clearly overwhelmed and uncertain whether this is even possible. Yet they set out on their journey anyway. Against seemingly insurmountable odds.

It is possible and it can be done, but it takes persistence. It also involves facing fear and overcoming it. The message of the movie.

Hate is poisonous and it appears you have overdosed."

The US has come a long way? This country has always been divided and remains so in 2009.

Settler vs Indian, North vs South, White vs Black, Athiest vs Christian
Young vs Old, Dem vs Rep, Good vs Evil

While the memories were fresh after the 911 attacks and fear was the dominant emotion across the US, I remember Bush's address to the Nation. He addressed the Terrorist situation around the world and ask for the support of Congress and US citizens. He spoke to the long term battle against terrorism and the changes it would bring to our lives. While the new feeling of fear and anger was upon our nation, the country was in unisome - terror struck and it wasn't only in the news, but in our daily lives - it was time to show the world the US was not going to sit back and play the game by their rules. Bush elaborated on the need for war (I believe there were WMD as did Colen Powell when he urged the UN to support the cause). 911 attacks were being planned during 1996 (Clinton Administration) - This attack was in play prior to Bush, however he still gets credit for the aftermath. 911 changed the world and it was carried out by those who hate US Foreign Policy.

I didn't vote for Bush - but I stood behind him because the US majority did. I didn't vote for Obama - but I will stand behind him because the majority did. Just like Obama said that he is not the Messiah and cannot cure the world, G W Bush is not the Anti-Christ and did not destroy the world. Some say the US will destroy itself within it's own boundaries - division and hate will be the Generals in this war.

Does anyone realize the Supreme Court has conferenced the case regarding Obama's citizenship for the 9th and 16th?
and an injunction was issued to the electoral vote until he proves he's a citizen.

All the bull you're arguing about could end up meaning nothing..

Why don't all of you people who are expending your good energy banging away on the keys to post rhetoric and bs, instead turn your energies toward e-mailing President Obama, & Congressmen & Senators alike, and urge support for the "Fair Tax Act of 2007". Getting this legislation passed would make the most profound change in this nation's history as to how it operates. If you would like to keep more of what you earn and have fair taxation for everyone, including those who don't pay into the tax system now, support the Fair Tax Act. If you are a senior and would like keep what you built up for your retirement, support the Fair Tax Act. If you would like to have the revenue to rebuild our infrastructure and invest in new technologies, support the Fair Tax Act. If you would like to see companies and corporations returning to America instead of leaving, support the Fair Tax Act. Best of all, if you would like to get rid of IRS once and for all, support The Fair Tax Act.

I am most certain that Obama is being handed one of the worst case deals of our governments presidency changing hands. I voted for Obama. McCain made the worst mistake of his life picking Sara Palin. He had my vote until he did that. Has a realist in a modern world you must see how bad Bush jr messed up for the last EIGHT YEARS. Being that the republican party needs to find a NEW DIRECTION! to make sense again. The days of Newt Gingrich, and the "Hammer" aka Tom Delay from Texas are OVER. Thank god screaming idiots like Rush are being drowned out with court papers from scandels and cover ups. It's really to bad we has a nation don't have time to go after the foxes that were gaurding the nations best interest's. Every one knows they were busy stuffing there pockets with money from PACT groups. Obama owes NO ONE A FAVOR. The major part of his election war chest were internet based small donations. It would be nice to think he could finish cleaning house when he gets in the White House. It will take more then four years to pick up the pieces of whats left of our country. I wish him the best. I hope for all of us. He can do half of what he sets out too do.

"Instead of trying to do something constructive, they spend their careers trying to tear down good men and women whose shoes they are not fit to lick"... that was the premise of the Obama Campaign for the past two years against GW Bush ! We will see how BHO and Pelosi can do something constructive without basing their decisions on what Bush has already done.

Paige---thanks for quoting the speech and for the reference to the full speech as well. i'll read it. i hope everyone else will consider reading it as well.

Paul-

I pulled that quote from the long speech, not for you, but as a sad reminder of how many live in the past which is so evident by the lack of tolerance and extreme prejudices by so many people. The likes of Hannity and Rush are jet fuel to intolerance.

I just thought you would be interested in the speech. The entire thing is worthy of a read by all.

Bobby gave it at The Cleveland City Club and the text is available on line.

Hey Peace Train. Stop bundling all the people who voted for Obama as “Liberals”. That’s talk show hate rant and Americans made it clear in the last election that they are weary of the divisiveness. Remember when “conservative” meant William F. Buckley or Goldwater or even Reagan? Remember when “conservative” meant fiscal, not Evangelical? It took the votes of centrist believing Republicans to elect Obama, not just “Liberals”.

Paige---thank you so much for the Robert Kennedy quote. i just read it. it puts things in perspective. i will try to change my tone and try to be more tolerant of those i disagree with.

i know President-Elect Obama must be aware of those words and lives by them.

peace in 2009!

thanks again Paige.

Paul - The speech by Bobby Kennedy played at the end of the movie BOBBY is so eloquent and it is as true today as it was when he gave it over 40 years ago. It describes the consequences of hate and fear very well.

"When you teach a man to hate and fear his brother, when you teach that he is a lesser man because of his color or his beliefs or the policies he pursues, when you teach that those who differ from you threaten your freedom or your job or your family, then you also learn to confront others not as fellow citizens but as enemies, to be met not with cooperation but with conquest; to be subjugated and mastered"

Speech by Bobby F Kennedy given 4/5/68

So fascinating you invoke the Wizard of Oz in an attempt to disparage any Obama supporter.

Considering the movie is about overcoming obstacles, I would say you picked the perfect choice as I and 69.5 million people voted for Obama including more than 60 Nobel Laureates.

When the Wizard says, “Bring me the broomstick of the Wicked Witch of the West,” Dorothy and crew are clearly overwhelmed and uncertain whether this is even possible. Yet they set out on their journey anyway. Against seemingly insurmountable odds.

It is possible and it can be done, but it takes persistence. It also involves facing fear and overcoming it. The message of the movie.

Hate is poisonous and it appears you have overdosed.

Good luck to you!

One more example of liberal hypocrisy:

Willie Geist(sp?) of MSNBC stood in the heavily Democratic upper east side of Manhattan wearing a McCain/Palin t-shirt. He was told by people just passing by 1)that he was in the "wrong neighborhood," 2)that he was an idiot, 3)that he was a facist.

This was all from the "party of tolerance."

I bet folks in Virginia, Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, and even Georgia and Arizona would have done the same thing.

Ethel Mertz---so you are literally talking about DNA. Anderson Cooper had a mother-figure so he has good DNA? i'm sorry. i'm just trying to understand. if you would be patient and kind enough to help me understand. because i understand DNA (i am assuming, perhaps wrongly that you are talking about the biological material) and i understand mother-figures (again i am assuming you mean that in sociological sense.

Thanks.
