Pres-elect Obama Coming to Hill Monday

January 01, 2009 10:35 PM

ABC News has learned that President-elect Obama will come to Capitol Hill to meet with congressional leaders Monday to discuss ways to revive the U.S. economy, including through a multibillion-dollar stimulus package.

This will be Obama's first meeting with congressional leaders since winning the election.

While some of the logistics are still being worked out, sources tell ABC News that the president-elect is planning to meet on Jan. 5 with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

As of Thursday night, plans were for Mr. Obama to then hold a bipartisan meeting that will include Pelosi, Reid, House GOP Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kent. Republican congressional aides said that nothing had been scheduled yet, though there had been talk of a meeting with the president-elect.

The economy will be the main subject in these talks, sources say, though other aspects of Congress' and the president's legislative agendas will be discussed.

The liberal hypocrisy never ends, in fact it is a requirement for them to exist at all.

Peter Yarrow, also famous for being the Peter of Peter, Paul and Mary is now a writer at the HuffPost was upset about that stupid parody Obama song that’s been getting a lot of press lately.

“He [The One] is the President-Elect, and this song insults the office of the Presidency, the people who voted for him, as well as those who did not…”

WOW Pete. It insults the Office of the Presidency?

What about calling Bush a monkey? Or naming a garbage site in his honor. Suddenly liberals care about what insults the Office of the President?

yes lincoln is rolling over in his grave at what bush and cheney and mccain and the other have done with his republican party. as far as obama he is not perfect but he is much much much then any republicans since lincoln.

One more example of liberal hypocrisy:

Willie Geist(sp?) of MSNBC stood in the heavily Democratic upper east side of Manhattan wearing a McCain/Palin t-shirt. He was told by people just passing by 1)that he was in the "wrong neighborhood," 2)that he was an idiot, 3)that he was a facist.

This was all from the "party of tolerance."

Amen to that Cash. If Obama went to Lincoln's grave it would be like that final scene in "CARRIE" with the hand coming out to strangle him.

"I'm no Lincoln but I'm sure Lincoln is rolling over in is grave!"

Posthumously irked, conceivably, that corporate descendants of drama-driven assassin John Wilkes Booth are pulling on Barry's "post-partisan" puppet strings?

Surely it's time to formulate a decree FORBIDDING politicians (OR their chattels, stand-ins, press officers, staff, or camp-followers) whose parents aren't descendants from black slavery in the United States to so much as ALLUDE to "Lincoln" in public utterances.

"It is noble if you don't need [Social Security] and send it back, President Reagan did that."

Believe it or not, when Social Security was in the making, it was widely expected that since FDR et al. designed it for those with no other means of "retirement", those who didn't "need" it, would NEVER, out of decency, even consider collecting it.

Hahaha. But that is TRUE.

"Ethel Mertz---"dna"? what are you saying?"

Well, Gloria Vandelbilt DID put her name on those nice jeans. And you can see that Anderson Cooper, unlike Obama, was consistently mothered by SOMEbody, which makes for a certain steadiness.

If a "united" country -- something the Nazis were always blabbing about -- is a function of "DNA", I'm just saying Anderson Cooper's DNA looks good, and HIM we've seen successfully SPEAK unscripted. Even in a strong wind.

(If selection of US Senators is up for on-the-fly adjustments, I mean to say, somebody might as well adjust those "DNA" arguments -- first for Obama, now for Caroline Schlossberg -- coming from the cloud of clowns at the top of the formerly-Democratic Party.)

We all qualify for Social Security, so I don't think you should feel obligated to send it back but I will.

It is noble if you don't need it and send it back, President Reagan did that. Funny how the only politicians that have sent it back are Republicans.

My liberal friends advocate raising taxes (for compassionate reasons, of course!) in one breath and use the sofa and love seat they bought for their home as a business deduction in another.
More liberal hypocrisy.

RMBarley
obama is no Lincoln. Lincoln was not a socialist. -You cannot help the poor, by destroying the rich. * You cannot strengthen the weak, by weakening the strong. * You cannot bring about prosperity, by discouraging thrift. * You cannot lift the wage earner up, by pulling the wage payer down.
* You cannot further the brotherhood of man, by inciting class hatred.
* You cannot build character and courage, by taking away men's initiative and independence. * You cannot help men permanently, by doing for them what they could and should, do for themselves. Do you recognize the author?
It was Abraham Lincoln. Very, very wise words, written years ago and yet some still don't get it...

"The greedy wealthy can not sustain the USA" I'm no Lincoln but I'm sure Lincoln is rolling over in is grave!

A. Philip Randolph---you got it, man. bow in the presence of greatness. he will come any way he pleases!

we need a translator for Limbaugh's and O'Reilly's terminology. where i live i can't pick up AM radio to hear these geniuses and how they will save america with their hateful, venomous, racist words of wisdom.

"The Union is saved!!!"

Ah! This post reminded me of Union Station, which reminded me of the previously-hyped Obama/Biden train ride to the Ascension/Inaugural.

What happened to THAT? Will He take a plane north, to board a train BACK to DC? How many times is He intending to "arrive"?

(Are the Pullman Porters down with this foolishness? Aside from the flagrant squandering of fossil fuel, the train sounds like a knock-off of FDR's funeral train ... but most likely featuring over-ripe produce, in place of tears.)

Ethel Mertz---"dna"? what are you saying?

TaxU ---let the president-elect be sworn in before you condemn his presidency. trash him in 2012 if you can. but for now let him get sworn in and get to work. obviously you aren't working for a better america. he is, so let him be.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. loves to go on talk shows (Hannity & Colmes ~ late 2005) and talk all about how bad it is for you and me to buy and/or drive an SUV. Yet, he travels around on a private jet. His issue with the SUV is the gas used and its alleged injury to the ‘ozone layer’ while he travels in a private jet that guzzles at a level no SUV can come close to.

"The Union is saved!!! "The One" is coming to capitol hill on Monday. Praise his most precious name. We will now be one again. For that which are about to receive, ...God help us."

Two hothouse mobsters (Obama, Pelosi) and a Mormon (Reid), versus black congresspersons who really ARE from Chicago?

Place yer bets -- except for any "Christians" in the crowd -- and keep yer powder dry.

(You know who might make an attractive "president", now that this office has descended into the realm of DNA-based celebrity? Anderson Cooper ... always polite, but never prissy, just the reverse of what's-his-name.)

Is it considered hypocritical when you're making millions upon millions to take your clothes off in a movie here in the US and then go to England and call Americans stupid and stuck-up?

Well, not if you're Gwyneth Paltrow. She decided to spit on the American Flag with a verbal tirade saying (among other things): "The British are much more intelligent and civilised than the Americans. I love the English lifestyle. I'm not as capitalistic as America."

It's just amazing how good the good'ol USA is when you need to make a million, but England is better once you've gotten your paycheck.

Thanks Paul, When "The One" earns it, he shall receive it. Let's see where we are 6 months from now. Will the troops be home from Iraq, as promised?

Paul Wall I am not ashamed of anything.

You should be ashamed for not seeing.

The Kennedy family, you probably don’t know this, has many members who are due family money (due with age, maturity etc.). You probably also don’t know that this money is apparently in a foreign bank – avoiding estate taxes. I say ‘apparently’ because the family refuses to talk about this allegation. It would be so easy to simply deny it if it wasn’t true – right? Isn’t it ironic that the democrats, as the Kennedy’s all are, love to raise taxes and allege that the ‘rich’ get away with too much tax relief here in the US. Meanwhile this family full of ‘rich’ people and democrats protect their money by putting it in foreign banks. If this country is such a protector of the rich and their money, why do the Kennedy’s putting their money in foreign banks?

Michael Moore says nothing but bad things about oil and defense contractors; calling them ‘war profiteers.’ He also claims to have no stock portfolio, yet he owns shares in Halliburton, Honeywell and Boeing and does his post production work in Canada – where he doesn’t have to pay union wages like in the United States. I’m sure his movie was 100% true.
