Prez-Elect Makes New Pitch, Promises on Job Creation -- Including 600,000 New Government Employees
January 03, 2009 9:52 AM
In his radio address today, President-elect Obama uses some new language when discussing what he wants the stimulus package to achieve in terms of jobs. First off, he has a name for the package -- the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan."
The president-elect says he wants to "create three million new jobs" -- this is a change from a few weeks ago, when he said he wanted the plan to create OR SAVE two million jobs.
He says the "No. 1 goal of my plan ... is to create three million new jobs, more than 80 percent of them in the private sector.”
If you do the math: 20 percent of three million means 600,000 new government employees.

We are being led to financial ruin, both as a nation and individually by an incompetent fool and liberal drones that support the green horn. Most cannot understand the damage being done to this great nation that is crumbling by the day.

Unfortunately as you may have since discovered..
No transparency and it will be mostly government jobs since the stimilus is not a stimulus but a 'politicians 'wanna' have bill.
um...the only people to call others unpatriotic was demos calling repubs that for not paying more taxes or not supporting obamaa.

I live in Hawaii, a state that has more state workers per capita than any state in the US. Also, until just recently there was a budget surplus. Our roads and infrastructive is crumbling, brigdes and overpasses in Oahu have been in a state of disrepair for a decades. State workers make good money and the jobs are highly prized. Rumor has it that you can't get a state job unless you know someone or are related to someone. It took over 14 months to build a simple new firehouse where I live, with workers starting at 10 and packing up at 2. I really don't think creating 600,000 more government jobs is the answer. Unless of course I change my birth certificate and say I am a long lost relative of Obama.

WOW 600,000 new gov employees? I work at a family owned small business (wood shop) & am sick of the current number of gov employees. Every year a new gov agency stops by & fines (or steals, whichever) us for not being in compliance with some new regulation. I have literally been told by a local fire marshal "don't worry, it will ONLY cost 40k to become compliant!" We have operated for thirty years but have only been non-compliant for the last year because of massive gov over-regulation! Sadly, I believe this attitude is too common throughout gov work & have witnessed idiotic wasting first hand with while serving in the military. I also believe that the only "change" the new president wants is the change in my pocket, my sofa, wherever...

I hope the president can really hold on his dreams to complete the furture everyone need and put us into a golden age. With Barack Obama we can get to the united States peak and progress beyond ever imagined

Small business tax cuts, why, so small business can hire more people at minimum wage with no benefits. Great idea. So small business owners can make loads of money while paying labor minimum wage, and getting tax breaks to do it. How about some good jobs that pay decent wages for work and have decent benefits.
Any of you commenting on federal employment ever been a federal employee? I am one. I work hard. I get paid almost exactly what I made in the private sector doing the same job. Benefits are actually less. If you think it is so great go apply and get a federal job. If not stop complaining.

We must be above 600,000 gov't jobs now - in the past 2 hours, Hussein O's plan to save us has gone from 3M jobs to 3.5M and most recently 4.1M jobs. Which if 20% are government, then it is up to 820,000 government jobs.
Perhaps the number of carefully vetted BHO stealth bloggers needed to quiet dissenting opinion? Perhaps it is 16,400 BHO storm-troopers per state (assuming my count of 50 states is correct instead of 57).
Of course, not all states will need that many, Hawaii is small and blue. Texas is Big and red . . . so the distribution of the new brown shirts and BHO Gestapo will not be evenly distributed.
Tax cuts? Really? 40 to 44% pay no taxes already . . . so I guess the threshold to pay taxes will raise to accommodate 310M, then repeal the Bush tax cut so everyone else can be patriotic for Joe "foot-in-mouth" bin-Biden and be re-distribute what they have earned to those that have not.
BTW, Trillion dollar deficits for the next 'few year's?!? Beware the craft Kenyan lawyer, Trillion does NOT mean only one trillion linguistically . . .
Has anyone stopped to think that once again, a damn lawyer, with no ECONOMIC experience is claiming to be able to save us? Lawyers are fantastic at not answering yes/no questions with yes or no since they charge in 6 minute chunks . . .
He ain't the saviour folks, he would not give an ounce of sweat for anyone unless it got him a mansion or an election. Judge him by his acts, not his purdy talkin' - con artists always know how to say exactly what you want to hear, what you want to believe is true to make you buy it - even when you know better . . .

Great. All America needs is 600,000 new Federal Workers who don't do crap. Think about it; what does the average taxpayer get from all those federal workers? What services (think quality here) do we get? I think Obama should follow what he said that private sector (especially Small Business) is the back bone. We should all be tired of the Government taking care of us when they cannot even manage themselves.

We have only been told small highlights of the "Save the U.S." plan. Glenn Beck said it so well. This was unprecidented that a President-Elect is giving out such a speech today. What is the left hand doing while the right hand is grasping the attention of our nation? The U.N. is discussing "new world order", thats what. Be very wary of all the events that are occuring today and ask yourself why? Please people, look around, don't be as dumb as out government thinks we are. Ask questions and demand answers and accountability. I teach my own children that a quick fix, usually isn't. Someone should teach Obama that same lesson. If it sounds too good to be true (keeping in mind we're talking about our government)then it probably isn't true!

This to Oh puhleze....My husband is a federal worker, he is a postman. Because of the job cuts, my husband is doing the work of three people on one route, that was subsequently increased in volume. They eliminated postman only to increase the salaries of the pencil-pushing managers that do vertually no work. Ask any postman, and they will say the same. The hard working, blue collar worker is being worked harder, for less money only to line the pockets of the rich corrupt beauracrats and politicians in this country. Now, it is only going to get worse. We have just seen the first steps to a socialized government in the United States. We are screwed!

Whatever man creates is lesser than its creator. The US government was created by men. Therefore the US government is lesser than those who created it. Solutions lie within the private sector. The government has created nothing productive or profitable ever. The government is nothing but a liability to America's private sector workforce. Bigger government means more liability. All the government can do is make, enforce and interpret the laws they've made. Laws always restrict our freedom. We need more productivity not more laws. We need smaller government not bigger. We need more freedom not less.

Wow. 600,000 new goverernment jobs by obama. That is over 60 billion dollars of our taxpayers dollars for their salaries.
I just hope the ones losing their jobs today are the fools that voted for Obama

600,000 new government jobs should scare every single one of us. 600,000 voters whose jobs depend on a continuation of whatever program this is, will be forced to vote democrat if they hope to keep them. This is just a stunt to control the next election and must be fought tooth and nail. Pelosi just shut down the House by eliminating fairness rules instituted by Gingrich, so now it will be up to the Senate to lock down the process until the House gets its fairness back. I hope and pray the conservatives in the Senate are wise enough to take that action and block all attempts to increase government by 600,000 jobs.

Here is my list of projects:
1. Planetary Defense System against Asteroids and Comets.
PROJECT ASTROSHIELD - space based defense system (space stations, platforms in the YEAR-LONG orbits of the planets NOT around each.)
space probes with cameras to watch for moving objects.
IMPACT MITIGATION - ground based defenses, shielded windows and other measures to lessen debris impact.
PROJECT SPECIES SURVIVAL
So that human, animal and plant species will not disappear no matter which
Extinction level event occurs we (animals, humans and plants) will have a
chance to come back.
Level 1 = total destruction of the planet
Level 2 = when the surface of a planet is destroyed but underground
Cities are safe. (and hopefully the surface will be livable again).
WE WILL PUT THESE IN EARTH ORBIT, ON THE MOON, EVERY SPACE STATION (MANNED), PLATFORM (UNMANNED) AND SPACE PROBE SO THAT AT SOME POINT IN TIME WE CAN START LIFE ON EARTH AGAIN OR THE SPACE PROBES WILL CRASH AND LIFE WILL START ON OTHER PLANETS.
2. Create the the "UNITED STATES OF THE AMERICAS" north, central, south.
so that in case of a disaster requiring migration (THINK "THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW", AN ASTEROID / COMET STRIKE ((WITH ENOUGH TIME TO MOVE)) ) PEOPLE WILL BE COMFORTABLE IN THE NEW PLACE.
2A. In the movie THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW the U.S. moved to Mexico. Mexico and Central America needs more land.
I have 2 ideas using the same basics, build a wall from the ocean floor to AT LEAST 50 feet above sea level with locks running from point A TO B.
Pump out out the water. Make seawater drinkable. build a pipeline to Africa the American Southwest Central / South America. FILL IN THIS AREA WITH EARTH CREATED BY
VERMICULTURE (EARTHWORM EAT GARBAGE AND HUMAN / ANIMAL WASTE THEIR "WASTE" IS EARTH).
WE WOULD BE PUMPING AND FILLING AT THE SAME TIME. It will be a worldwide multi-decade / century effort.
The points are:
WALL 1. CANCUN, MEXICO AND MIAMI, FLORIDA USA.
WALL 2. Virginia Beach, Virgina USA TO NATAL, BRAZIL, SOUTH AMERICA
Artificial continent walls CONNECTING / SURROUNDING:
1. great pacific garbage patch.
2. Canada - U. S. (alphabetical) to end of Aleutian Island chain (ATTU ISLAND)
3. Federated States of Micronesia
4. Indonesia AND Philippines
5. Koryak RUSSIA to Singapore

600k public jobs are one thing, but who is gonna pay for the 2.4m private sector jobs? if these private sector jobs consist of hiring workers for infrastructure work then who is footing the bill to pay for these contracts? sounds more like the taxpayer and corporate taxes will be paying for 3m new jobs regardless ...

I am personally ashamed of the 52% of the voters that elected the upcoming president, but will not be left out on the party though. I am unemployed and apparently as long as one supports "government saves all mentality", then I should at least be able to get a secure job in some government created department. Thanks for destroying capitalism liberals!
