Prez-Elect Makes New Pitch, Promises on Job Creation -- Including 600,000 New Government Employees

January 03, 2009 9:52 AM

In his radio address today, President-elect Obama uses some new language when discussing what he wants the stimulus package to achieve in terms of jobs. First off, he has a name for the package -- the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan."

The president-elect says he wants to "create three million new jobs" -- this is a change from a few weeks ago, when he said he wanted the plan to create OR SAVE two million jobs.

He says the "No. 1 goal of my plan ... is to create three million new jobs, more than 80 percent of them in the private sector.”

If you do the math: 20 percent of three million means 600,000 new government employees.

Watch the address above or read the text HERE.

The saddest part about this thread is how many people are defending the idea that 600,000 more government workers are a good thing, or that they will add anything to the economy.

-And that all they care about is that jobs are going to be created. That's pretty sad how selfish people have become.

600,000 new votes for Democrats. Ugh.

Who does he think he is to create more government ---- Bush with the Homeland Insecurity guys???? Hey, how about a 'car czar'? After all, it rhymes and if it don't fit we must acquit 'cuz we'r too legit 2 quit (turn cap sideways for this)....

Here in the U.S. of Idiots, we need some real generic platitudes. ch-ch-ch-change=change no matter how bad.....a very sick and twisted way to think...

reminds me of john lennon - love is all you need, right?

ONE MORE THING --- notice the ARMIES of people who supposedly hate government intrusion on personal 'choice' (RvW) -- yet who will line up to support MASSIVE ENTITLEMENTS (which limit choice and freedom). Somehow THAT is ok.

But we know all that we need to know about Osama, I mean Obama. I mean when Katie Couric asked him 'what songs are in your ipod ?' I basically understood what is happening with the Manchurian Candidate. He was totally vetted; any further questions are racist, you know. You Know All That You Need To Know.

Love is all you need,

This 20% is a scam! 80% jobs in the private sector doesn't mean "free market"! All jobs created by the government is an act of "Socialism". If these jobs were needed, they would be created by the free market. There is no free lunch. 3 million jobs created by Obama, will destroy 3 million "productive" jobs created by the free market, that is, jobs created by consumer demand, and not by a dictator!

His Tax cuts are also a scam. It is nothing more then transfering wealth from more productive individuals and businesses to less productive ones. These Tax cuts economically amount to the "productive" subsidizing the "unproductive". Great plan to save the economy. He must have taken "Economics for Socialists 101". I'm sure he got an 'A'

Now how much of the $1 Trillion will be creamed off as payment for being elected to the many hangers on .Clyde

Bigger government is all that is being made. Cornerstone of socialism. Let Big Daddy take care of you. More government power and less citizen rights. Big Daddy owns eveything. Manufacturing/ Banking/Insurance/Energy/Medical care/news media (and yes that is coming). There is your change foks. Sweet stuff huh? I just want all the free stuff Obama promised me.

The joke is on us though. Even traditionally liberal France thinks Obama is naive while here in America the media treat him as the second coming.

Everything these political fuqwads do in the next 4 years will be for their own self serving purposes. Obama will spend 4 years campaigning for a second term, cause that is really all he is good at. The rest of the Dems will promote policies such as am-nasty, universalduochecare, gubmint jobs, and worthlessfare to create a base of spineless, needy indoctrinated morons who will vote for them in perpetuity.

Some of you get it. It really is pretty simple, government creates nothing, it can only tax (I like to think of it as legal robbery) and spend.

Those of you who don't get this are morons who need to pull your heads out and get a real education, not one shoved down your throat by some professor who spent their life obtaining tenure.

600,000 new government jobs in a short period of time. i like the idea although the only way i can see of growing those jobs in government is to initiate the draft. 600,000 would be easy if he did that.

Posted by: Stephen | Jan 5, 2009 4:58:18 PM

Yep, everything is coming together nicely. 600,000 government jobs times an average of $60,000 per year with benefits. That's 600,000 x 60,000. My calculator cannot handle that number nor can my aching head. Think of the retirement benefits we'll owe them all one day. That helps make a nice Democratic voting block in any case.

Pray with me all of you the unwashed and unclean:

Well, these responses prove one thing. The people who educate themselves on Obama and his "plans of action" actually disagree and see through his tripe. But a majority of those who voted for him have no idea who this man is, what his plans mean, or the implications of them. Nor do they care.

Jesse Jackson shed tears for this! CNN told me so!

Posted by: Adun | Jan 5, 2009 4:49:21 PM

That's all we need. More people on the government payroll. What a stupid move!

Posted by: Russ | Jan 5, 2009 4:48:22 PM

dianeremarx - you made some very astute comments. Let me add that the financial geniuses in congress along with the O man are not recognizing that the intrinsic value of your dollars are at this time is approximately $.03 per dollar. Maybe a smart feller like Arnie can extrapolate the impact of the mega bucks being discussed on the current value of our money supply.

Is this the change we can believe in? Is this what the huddled masses in Grant Park melodically sang "Ba-rack O-ba-ah-ma" for? Folks this is Jimmy Carter Lite. All we need is a malaise speech and we've got Jimmy Carter Supersized here.

Posted by: Adun | Jan 5, 2009 4:37:59 PM

Hmmm, 600,000 new jobs? I wonder if someone made an "underestimation" regarding the proposed possibilities reported on in the following link? This could be nothing more than hype (or paranoia?)-- but I think we might want to keep our eyes wide open..."just in case."

Posted by: just_observing | Jan 5, 2009 4:36:17 PM

Let's keep in mind folks Obama's team worked for 3 months to "create" this thing they're talking about...the 3 million jobs with 20% public. That's what they've come up with in 3 months time. What do you think a small business owner might be able to produce in say...3 months time?

Posted by: Adun | Jan 5, 2009 4:35:28 PM

Hit the nail on the head dianeremarx! All these "plans" are designed just to make folks feel better. Just to make them feel as though action is actually taking place on their part. Obama knows he doesn't actually have to do anything until 2011 anyway...that's when he starts running for re-election. He's got sufficient lead in the Congress to allow 2010 to be a throw away election. All he has to do right now is surf shirtless in Hawaii so the reporters will oooh and aaah a lot.

So Alex20850 -- if we're all so stupid, please explain where you get your info.

Posted by: Nosesomuch | Jan 5, 2009 4:27:15 PM

Wait a minute... let me get this straight.... Obama wants $1 trillion to bailout the economy, wants to add 600,000 government jobs and give a $310 billion tax break to the middle and lower clases, right? Where is all this money coming from? If we are spending $1 tillion to stimulate the economy then why does the government need to give 600,000 jobs to people? If taxpayers are spending $1 tillion plus the $310 billion tax break plus the salaries of 600,000 new gov't workers (which equals around $20 billion to $50,000 billion) should puts the total at around $1 trillion, 400 billion we (taxpayers) are in the hole for. Now, can someone please explain where we're getting this money and how is this going to stimulate the economy?
