Report: Reid Told Blago Not to Appoint Jesse Jr.
January 03, 2009 9:34 AM
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., called Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich before his arrest to argue against his appointing Democratic Illinois Reps. Jesse Jackson, Jr., or Danny Davis or State Senate President Emil Jones to replace President-elect Barack Obama in the Senate "because he did not believe the three men were electable. He feared losing the seat to a Republican in a future election."Reid, the Sun-Times report says, favored the appointment of Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs director Tammy Duckworth or Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan.
In other news, CNN reports that a Senate aide says that if former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris, Blago's pick to replace Obama in the Senate, "tries to enter the Senate chamber, the Senate doorkeeper will stop Burris. If Burris were to persist, either trying to force his way onto the Senate floor or refusing to leave and causing a scene, U.S. Capitol Police would stop him ... They [police] probably won't arrest him, but they would call the sergeant-at-arms."

"Madigan moved the primary up for him and now his daughter wants the seat. Duckworth lost a bid for Rep. after being pushed by Emanuel and Durbin only to be appointed to her current job. Her qualifications are her war injuries. Valerie Jarrett's qualification-other than being Michelle's former boss-was loyalty to Obama...all political payoffs."
Not much different from just selling the seat for cash, except that US Senators get all kinds of perqs and benefits ... including the ever-popular lifetime "socialized medicine" -- paid for by the public -- for the whole family forever.

Old crazy Harry fits right in with the rest of those left wing Democrats . . . he is Democratic Party.

Kilpatrick was submitting papers to block Blogo from appointing anyone. What happened to those papers? Did the judge rule against it. Or did Blogo pull a fast one with a rush to judgement. Personally, since it was Jackson Jr. who blew the whistle which started the investigation a few years back about the Blogo practice of tick for tack in the way of money for a position, it should have been given to Jackson Jr. Give the newer generation a chance.

Carolinagirl:You failed to mention his list of replacements were only backers. Madigan moved the primary up for him and now his daughter wants the seat. Valerie Jarrett's qualification-other than being Michelle's former boss-was loyalty to Obama...all political payoffs.
You might want to research Ms. Rice as she has more knowledge in her little finger than Obama has in his entire body.

So Burris shows up on Tuesday.
Will Reede, Durbin and other
outlaw senators be waiting for
him with water hoses and dogs?
Will PEBO be there too to order
the attack?
What is civilized is to let due
process work its way through
the courts and the legislature
of Illinois with the highest
legal and evidentiary standards.
In the meantime, let Burris in.
Keep politics out.

>>Well, in Democrathink, any political office held by a Black should continue to be reserved for Blacks wherever possible. Welcome to the Age of Obama.>>
It was GHW Bush who appointed an unqualified, ignorant Clarence Thomas to Thurgood Marshall's black Supreme Court seat.
It was GWB who appointed doofus Condi Rice to the Secretary of State post previously held by Colin Powell.
Obama's list of "replacements" contained three whites, one Asian and two blacks. That, my dear, is the "Age of Obama."

Well, NObama promised change. Let the changes begin! (not)

In 2009 lets just try and start rewarding
right and punishing wrong. Regardless of
race or class. The children of America will start to see this as normal human relations and all will be pretty good.

"Danny Davis, an African-American turned down the offer from the Gov, as did others. This is not a 'race' issue." Glad to hear this. I hope all principled African American politicians in Illinois will stand up to Blago over his appointment.

"Then they vote AGAINST a special election for the people to decide who gets Obama's seat. Here I thought it was Madigan as usual, but it was Harry Reid? ... Rahm Emanuel is MIA and Obama comes out with the same statement as the Senate Democrats."
Obama's "same" statement started with Emanuel-to-Reid, then circled back to Him ... so that it sounds as though there's a Vast Consensus.

When the IL. House comes in next week to impeach Blagojevich and they listen to the SELECT group of tapes provided by Patrick Fitzgerald, will Harry Reid now be on them? Doubt it. Funny how everything is falling into place. Somehow Patrick Fitzgerald gets tipped off to wiretap Blagojevich. After the arrest Mike Madigan calls the House back under false pretenses of a special election only to get support for impeachment. Then they vote AGAINST a special election for the people to decide who gets Obama's seat. Here I thought it was Madigan as usual, but it was Harry Reid? Blagojevich, since they didn't vote to take away his power, then appoints Burris who wanted the job but wasn't given serious consideration when all the "better connected" wanted the seat. Rahm Emanuel is MIA and Obama comes out with the same statement as the Senate Democrats. Now all of a sudden Fitzgerald who hurried to arrest the Gov. BEFORE any money changed hands and all but convicted Blago in his press conference on the arrest, files for a 90 day extension and Blagojevich is accused of playing the race card.

While all true Republicans were pointing at H. Ried for some time as a conniving politician with less than the normal load of intellect, it is ironic that only when he is shown dramatically to be a fool - do even true Democrats get on the wagon. You can't make this stuff up! I think that Harry will get to "smell the public" much more than he imagined!

The state of Illinois has lost
its collective head.
No one - no one - has produced
evidence which shows that the
governor did something unlawful
at any time while in office.
