this news caster seems biased for some reason. i am not sure why he wants the viewer to believe our president went out of his way to shake hands with the other guy.

the other news clips and pics shows it was a mutual meeting and when the book was given our president was sitting in his seat when chavez approached him.

The US government does not interfere in other countries based on America's interests, it does so because of corporate interests. Its time to stop identifying yourself with corporate interests.

The truth is that Cuba could have come on aboard whenever they wanted to.. they always want to blame the U.S. They are the repressors of their people.

President Obama is doing a wonderful job as president and according to the most recent polls..most Americans agree with me.

The most interesting thing the President said in his speech was this-
"I think it's important to recognize, given historic suspicions, that the United States' policy should not be interference in other countries, but that also means that we can't blame the United States for every problem that arises in the hemisphere"

He should explain what he means when he says the "United States' policy should not be interference in other countries".

Aren't we currently trying to 'interfere' with the internal affairs of DPRK, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc...? It seems the President does not understand that his job is to put America's interests first, and if it means 'interferring' in another nation's affairs, so be it.

It seems clear Obama is saying that a Communist or any other revolution in Latin America is their own business, in any circumstance. That certainly is 180 degrees from White House policy for the past 100 yrs.

Does the President mean that the U.S. should not be interferring in Sudan (Darfur), Somalia, Rawanda...unless we have an exception for genocide?

If a cap on carbon emmissions is enacted, the US is unlikely to have much manufacturing. It will be done in countries without carbon caps.

You are right Todd, the next phase of US manufacturing desperately needs Latin America as the backyard market, we can choose hostility and let China run us down and out, or, we can play the BIG price of courtesy and respect and reap the rewards.

Obama knows this, that smile is not for Chavez but the many Venezuelans and Cubanos tuned in

By isolating the US from countries we disagree with has only resulted in a loss of trade and a loss of buiness opportunity

Thanks to Obama the US might now begin trade with cuba. This could open the way for great business opportunity and trade as in Cell Phone service and other busnesses that will boost US business.

The right wing who says "We are only giving credibility when we talk to chavez and others we disagree with"

I have news for the right wing, the rest of the world already gives credibility to other countries who disagree with the US.

The only country that suffers because of isolation and not giving credibility has been the US.

I prefer that the president admit he has a lot to learn while in the US and present a strong front to the international community rather than other way around.
