Guess Who's Not Coming to Dinner?
June 05, 2009 6:21 PM
More European silliness, Obama supporters say.
Monsieur and Madame Obama have declined a dinner invitation from Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni, the President and First Lady of France, the London Times reports -- even though America's First Couple is staying at the resident of the US Ambassador to France, "yards from the Elysée apartments where the Sarkozys spend their weekends."
Le Parisien newspaper wrote yesterday, before it became clear that the Obamas wouldn’t be joining the Sarkozys: “The palace is fearing a snub."
White House deputy press secretary Jen Psaki says "while their late arrival from Germany this evening did not allow for dinner, President Obama will have a working lunch with President Sarkozy tomorrow afternoon and Mrs. Obama will dine with Mrs. Sarkozy twice during her stay in Paris."
The Obamas' plane landed at around 9:15 pm local time.

Maybe the Obama dissed the Sarkozy's because of Carla....there's a very interesting picture floating around of the two women....it's currently on DRUDGE.

Who out there believes the invite came the same day they arrived? These things are planned weeks in advance. This was a obvious snub, I have a feeling the witch does not like Carla Bruni and feels intimidated and threatened by the young model. She most likely put an end to that invitation.
M. Obama even LOOKS mean, in every photo I see of her she looks like she is ready to rip someones head off.

"President Obama has insulted our
British allies and now our French allies!"
Since when did the Right give a hoot in heck about our French allies? The last time they ordered 'freedom fries'?

So many adoring world leaders, so little time....

Let's see:
President Obama has insulted our
British allies and now our French allies!
I guess Mr Obama would rather eat dinner
with his Muslim Breathren!
2012 can't come soon enough.

Barry and Michele don't eat garden pests .... no matter what time of day it is!
(and I don't even like these two)

So????

I'm sure Sarkozy was well aware when he sent the invitation how late it was.

Maybe they wanted to sleep.

This is not silly at all! Parisian papers should trumpet this mean-spirited and obviously planned insult and the government should immediately ban apple pies from all restaurant and bistro menus. Despite possible retaliation to french frites.

This is silly, what do you expect when traveling with two young girls?
President Obama has one night with them before having to come back to the US. He's not going to ditch his daughters for a "state" dinner with the Sarkozys - no matter how informal.
Again the Press would be lost with any "OMG" news. I think they would seriously go into withdrawal.

They were invited to dinner on the day that their plane doesn't touch down until 9:15 in the evening? I think declining what is essentially a 10PM dinner invitation is hardly scandalous - even for France that is a latish dinner.
