Obama Says Aloha & Mahalo to Members of Congress
June 25, 2009 8:34 PM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: “Aloha,” Hawaii native President Obama said to the crowd of 2,000 gathered on the South Lawn for the annual Congressional picnic, themed this year as a Hawaiian luau.
“I just want to say to all the members of Congress you’ve been working hard. I wish I could give you all trips to Hawaii but I figured that given our budget crunch we can’t do that, but we’d bring Hawaii to you.”
The President, wearing a pink Hawaiian lei introduced members of his family – also in leis – and the newest member of the Obama family.
“The star of the family,” Obama called him, “Bo Obama.”
The President’s remarks were brief, just under two minutes and he wrapped up by thanking members of Congress for the “unbelievable work” they are doing for the American people.
The Obamas along with the families and the members of Congress, will enjoy a Hawaiian meal made by famed Hawaiian chef Alan Wong who was flown in for the event.
The menu: Wasabi potato salad, Farm green salad, Lomi Lomi salmon, Stuffed new potatoes, BBQ baby back ribs, Kalua Pig, Shrimp and clams, Tilapia tempura rolls, Crispy chicken hoagie, Grilled lamb chops. Spiced short ribs and Strawberry Tiramisu and Chocolate bars for dessert.
Large pineapples decorated the multi-colored tables on the South Lawn – where members of Congress mingled by the tiki huts handing out drinks, or played volleyball with large beach balls. The guests will also be treated to performances by Polynesian dancers, fire blowers and hula lessons.

Borneo, in fact Puerto Rico is a Commonwealth of the USA, the people are citizens, and Sotomayor is an American, born and bred.
Some people on here need to check their facts.

I hear there were a few House Dems who stayed away from the festivities for fear of being strong-armed by Obama and Chicago Rahm Emanuel because they were resistant to voting for the bogus TAX Bill that Obama calls Cap and Trade. The Bill barely squeaked through by just 7 votes. If it passes the Senate it will be the largest TAX BILL ever served on our country, $700 BILLION dollars. Guess who gets to pay it? Better call your Senators and tell them to vote NO on this "huge regressive tax," as Warren Buffett calls it.

Ryan, yeah, I figured that this congressman is like a dog with a bone and keeps proposing his pet project over and over. But there wasn't much discussion of it by anyone else that I heard during the Bush years-- now, there's a surprise. *G* I remember my dad being all for the repeal back in the clinton years, because he was/is a huge President Clinton fan. Probably I just noticed the talk on the cable shows about the proposal back then because of his interest in the topic. Because dad certainly did not want any more years of bush than he got. :)

"This is undoubtedly a reference to a piece of legislation proposed in congress to repeal the 22nd amendment that limits anyone from serving more than 2 terms as president. The same thing came up during the clinton years"
The same piece of legislation has been offered by the same Congressman half a dozen times including 3 or 4 times during Bush's term.

Here is what was done June 5 2008....compare the menus:
Jun 5 2008 10:18PM
Associated Press
White House (AP) President Bush and members of Congress put political differences aside for the annual congressional picnic on the White House South Lawn.
Some 1,700 people milled beneath white tents and at picnic tables eating barbecued ribs, Corn on the cob and potato salad.
Children Danced amid bubbles and rode a roving train, and there was a small floor for square dancing.
However, I did notice that there was lots of PORK on the menu LOL

Why is it these functions are perfectly ok when done by a Repub but the moment Pres. Obama keeps a long standing tradition, you conservatives have a hissy fit! If he didn't have the picnic, you would all be screaming how it was a slap in the face! Get a grip!

Dear, had Obama not told execs (not that it is okay) but had he not told them to stop spending tax payers dollars on trips to Vegas or to the Super Bowl party because we are in the middle of a huge economic crisis, then a hissy fit would not be in order.
Instead, he continues on with parties, spends HUNDRED-Of-THOUSANDS of tax payers dollars to take his wife to another state for a date night (a date mind you he could have done in Washington at a FAR LESS COST TO US), spend hundreds-of-thousands of tax payers dollars to do a fly over in air force one to take pictures (really necessary???), spent hundreds-of-thousands of dollars to stay an extra day while in London with his family on the tax payers dime.
Now, most would say that qualifies for most of us to be a little ##### because if we are expected to cut back then SO SHOULD CONGRESS---this includes Obama.

He ate a delicious pizza!?!? Is there no limit to the shameful self-indulgence of this man?!?!
Here, we all eat Totinos party pizzas... while he eats decadent pizzas in his mansion.
Have you seen the lawn on the White House? Did you know that he doesn't even mow it himself? He has his servants do it!!!!
Did you know that he is meeting with the prime minister of Germany!? The closest I have ever gotten to Germany is the half-empty bottle of Heineken that I found on a coffee table at a party one time. And when I went to drink it, I found out that someone was using it as a spitter for the chew. So, I didn't even get any actual Heineken.
It's like they are royalty. If you don't resent it. You are probably a liberal.

For an powerful article about President Obama, go to American Thinker and look for an article called "Obama, the African Colonial" written by L.E. Ikenga.

Axey - it was announced at the time by most media sources that the pizza chef was visiting his girlfriend, who lived in the area, and flew in commercially. I know you people think the msm are Obamabots but believe me if any of these people had been flown in any way but commercially there would have been a big press frenzy about it.

Good Lord! They didn't even forgo dessert and donate the cost to homeless shelters? We the American people paid for that spread....how many of you eat that well any given day of the year! Such arrogance!

Tony - I want some of what you are smoking. Where do you people come up with these things???
Posted by: MaryE | Jun 26, 2009 1:43:57 PM
Yeah... and next you'll be telling me that Puerto Rico isn't another country... and that Sonya Sotomayor is an "American."
Posted by: borneo | Jun 26, 2009 1:19:51 PM
People do get Hawaiians aren't foreigners. All Hawaiians are Americans as much anybody.

And, what about that picture, is that some kind of pagan fertility rite? Obama once said "the stars are in alignment."

Pshaww! First Iran, France, then N. Korea... Now he wants to legitimate the Hawaiian regime?
This goes too far.

Axey, you are my new hero. I'm enjoying your comments on this and other threads immensely.
And thanks for the memory jogger imbedding in your wonderful response to jhw, "Why are you pretty sure? Do you know something the rest of us don't? For instance, when Obama had a pizza chef "flown in" it wasn't commercial. I suspect, but don't know, the chef didn't fly commercial. If you have something that backs up your "pretty sure" would you mind sharing it with us?" I had forgotten about the pizza guy flown in from St. Louis.

Alex: Man, have been you been drinking gallons of Hannity Kool-Aid or what?
Bush's high approval ratings? ************
Tony: Everyone's Birth Records are "hidden" as in not available for public scrutiny without release by an authorized person. I can't come to your state and demand to have your birth certificate released just because I might want to see it. The POTUS is allowed that same protection. That would be a no-brainer for everybody except the Can't-Get-Over-Obama-Winning-Limbaugh-Hanniy-Koolade-Drinking crowd.
Get A Life ! !

BachiaBeat, Tony is indeed a bit overheated, but I think I can explain the part of his rant in which he said the president is trying to have the limits on his term removed. This is undoubtedly a reference to a piece of legislation proposed in congress to repeal the 22nd amendment that limits anyone from serving more than 2 terms as president. The same thing came up during the clinton years-- people bandied about amending the constitution to allow someone to serve more than two terms, and when it came up, the discussion often revolved around whether it could be applied to a sitting president, so that Clinton could run for a third term, or if it would exclude the current office holder at the time it became ratified, as that person would have been elected under the old rules.
Having explained the reference, I rush to add that there is absolutely no evidence that the president has shown any interests in supporting this legislation. His fan club? They are a different matter.
