You did realise that didn't you Timmy? That there is $288 BILLION in tax benefits in the Recovery and Reinvestment plan? That's almost like - how shall i put this - REDUCING taxes isn't it?

oh yes, I have supported 'untold numbers of tyrannical leaders' in my life Timmy, just like you say.

Glad we agree.

As opposed to all the innocent bodies left throughout history by the blessed leaders of untold numbers of tyrannical leaders you hold in such high esteem?

And the innocent bodies tortured and killed by Saddam and his sons and minions while the U.N. did nothing because they did not want to mess up their sweet deal doing business with Saddam?

And the innocent, defenseless bodies President Obama fights against because it is "above his pay grade?"

Those real bodies?

I love the American right.

Attack everybody! Attack Iran! Attack Korea! Attack Russia! Attack the G-8! Attack the environment! Attack the unemployed! Attack those without healthcare! Attack EVERYBODY!

Posted by: danita | Jul 8, 2009 7:59:35 PM

Back to the treaty.

Obama called the treaty a "legally binding agreement." According to the U.S. Constitution, the U.S. Senate would need to ratify the arms-control treaty to make it binding, legally or otherwise.

Why are we standing down to Russia on nuclear warheads and missiles at the same time Iran and North Korea are escalating their arms races? Back to Carter's "hug it out" diplomacy...

Thank you Paul. Agree with the glass house remark, which is why I'm trying to point out that we all have evil within us - we are not inherently good - and that is why we have laws and punishment.

Would you say that not all Islam's problems in this area are due to "religious extremists" or "whack cases"? That in seemingly normal and peaceful Muslim families this goes on. That seems to me to be as much of a generalization as anything. I was awkwardly trying to point this out.

Posted by: Traffic Cop Timmy | Jul 8, 2009 5:18:04 PM

Traffic Cop Timmy---our society has still not completely embraced the equality of women itself. so we shouldn't cast stones at glass houses. also women throughout Muslim societies are treated differently. your post(s) imply there is a homogeneity throughout the Muslim world and that all women in the Muslim world are abused. you might want to do some anthropological research when making broad, seeping statements of others' cultures. Muslim women in America, Iran, Palestine are all treated differently than women in Afghanistan.

"BTW, danita, my comments concern Islam in the Middle East - not "contemporary Islam" in general. The original comment from J. House concerned Egypt and the Middle East"
Posted by: Traffic Cop Timmy | Jul 8, 2009 2:12:31 PM

Timmy . . . my comments were originally -and continued to be - about President Obama's two brilliant speeches to the people of the Islamic world, in which he communicated directly to the common people, families and moderates of Islam - and spoke strongly against the extremists and the terrorists.

I stopped trusting T.Boone Pickens are the shenanigans he pulled here in CA with a ballot proposition.

It was a naked grab at money.

Basically the prop called for utilities in CA to achieve a very high percentage of renewal energy. Sounded sort of green in its wording and intentionally so. But the standard called for was absurd (like 40%)

If the utilities did not meet that standard the state would be required to purchase alternative power from out of state companies.

Guess who has wind farms out of state?

"President G. W. Bush that you insult so freely kept your cowardly butts safe for both of his terms in office"

Except for 9/11.

Ya know that thing that happened in his first term that killed 3000 Americans.

Also in his first term he decided to invade a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 resulting is the international community backing away from cooperating with us on the war on terror and the deaths of 4000+ American soldiers and counting.

Hooray for cowardly idiocy!

They are not evil people Timmy. Posted by: danita | Jul 8, 2009 1:40:37 PM

They are indeed not evil people (your words, not mine). However, evil resides within all of us, danita. We are not inherintly good. Laws and justice keep us in check. When the scales are tilted in favor of men in a society, you end up with injustice - even in "normal" families. And I am reasonable sure that normal Islamic families are victims of abuse daily. Fathers, husbands, brothers are all doing bad things to the women of these countries. And it is not about religion. That's the justification.

Posted by: Traffic Cop Timmy | Jul 8, 2009 2:18:18 PM

BTW, danita, my comments concern Islam in the Middle East - not "contemporary Islam" in general. The original comment from J. House concerned Egypt and the Middle East, which you conveniently generalize to include the Muslim world so you could make your point. I only brought it back to the original intent. I doubt you'll find much flexibility within those countries concerning human rights, especially with Muslim women.

Iran and Syria want meetings with no preconditions. What a surprise. I was castigated for suggesting that BHO is a mental midget. It looks like the bad guys have been watching his first 6 mons like the Indians on the hillsides watched the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Custer was like BHO, young, good looking, aggressive, arrogant, short sighted and stupid leading his charges into disaster. Just remember as you are hiding under your bed like all the other cowardly liberal democraps when “the one’s” homeland security allows the bad guys in for a repeat of 9/11 that, President G. W. Bush that you insult so freely kept your cowardly butts safe for both of his terms in office

"And what about these families and moderates? Oh that's right, they are busy honor-killing their wives and children"
Posted by: Traffic Cop Timmy | Jul 8, 2009 1:32:51 PM

What a detailed understanding you have of contemporary Islamic culture Timmy.

That's right all the normal families and moderates are busy killing their wives and children.

You really should educate yourself beyond your cliches.

Religious extremists are whack cases whether Islamic, Jewish or Christian. Guess what - you seem to fit into one of those slots.

President Obama's speeches directly to the common people, the families and the moderates of the Islamic world was brilliant. They are not evil people Timmy. You need to deprogram yourself.

Posted by: danita | Jul 8, 2009 1:40:37 PM

Reaching out directly to the people, the moderates, the families and speaking out against the extremists and the terrorists was brilliant. Posted by: danita | Jul 8, 2009 12:41:46 PM

Yes, and where are these religion of peace leaders who should be speaking out against extremists?

And what about these families and moderates? Oh that's right, they are busy honor-killing their wives and children (in some cases right here in the good ol' USA), killing their neighbor because he welched on a deal offering the 14 year old daughter for some goats and cash. Who exactly is Onama speaking to? Brilliant or listening to himself talk?

Do you think any of these people would care about Americans if we weren't sending them billions in aid and buying their oil?

It's a fool's paradise in which you live. You can't make people sing "we are the world" in case you haven't figured that out yet.

Posted by: Traffic Cop Timmy | Jul 8, 2009 1:32:51 PM

Yes, President Obama's speeches directly to the people of the Islamic world were exceptional even if you're too full up of your own ideology to see it.

Reaching out directly to the people, the moderates, the families and speaking out against the extremists and the terrorists was brilliant. And so much more effective and helpful than Bush's 'us or them' alienating idiocy.

Sad you're unable to see it. Fortunately the United States is comprised of many thoughtful and decent people, and not a majority of ranting, bitter ideologues.

The President gave his speech in one of the most corrupt, autocratic regimes in the Mid-East...Egypt. While at the same time, he continues to prop it up with a yearly $3 billion bribe that has continued since the Carter admin. Posted by: J House | Jul 8, 2009 12:14:56 PM

Come on! It's only been A FEW SHORT MONTHS! Timmy (the Tax Cheat) Geitner hasn't had time to cancel the direct deposit yet. Obama is still exceptional AND enlightened.

Danita,

The President gave his speech in one of the most corrupt, autocratic regimes in the Mid-East...Egypt. While at the same time, he continues to prop it up with a yearly $3 billion bribe that has continued since the Carter admin.
