'World Leader' to Obama: Explain Why 'They're Putting a Hitler Moustache On You'

September 27, 2009 1:16 PM

President Obama at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation dinner last night, discussing false claims made about the health care reform bill, told a little anecdote.

"I was up at the G20 -- just a little aside -- I was up at the G20, and some of you saw those big flags and all the world leaders come in and Michelle and I are shaking hands with them," the president said. "One of the leaders -- I won't mention who it was -- he comes up to me. We take the picture, we go behind.

"He says, 'Barack, explain to me this health care debate.'

"He says, 'We don't understand it. You're trying to make sure everybody has health care and they're putting a Hitler mustache on you -- I don't -- that doesn't make sense to me. Explain that to me.'"

Asked who this was, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs would say only "a world leader."

This never happened. Pure fiction.

"World leader"? Speaking this way?

Who is it? Borat?

We take the picture, we go behind.

Barack, explain to me this health care debate.

You're trying to make sure everybody has health care and they're putting a Hitler mustache on you, that doesn't make sense to me. Explain that to me.

"Comparing Obama to Hitler is wrong if you mean in terms of evil. Hitler was evil, pure and simple evil.
If you compare them in terms of political philosophy (i.e. their socialist view) and in terms of the devotion by their followers, it may be an interesting discussion ... but it would not be allowed in a public forum because of Hitler's brutal past"

Hilter was a fascist...more in common with bush/cheney...

compare obama with possibly castro or churchill...

That there is a two tier system of healthcare in the UK is not in doubt.

The problems with the NHS system are in part that it's users don't know how to use it properly. It is over-used. It may be overly managed too.

I have private medical cover through my employer but I am HAPPY to contribute to the NHS to other people healthcare, committed to doing so in fact. It's part of a commitment to social justice, I put back some of what I take out.

I wonder if the US were less litigious, it's people less keen to find someone to blame, less interested in getting something for nothing, would health care be cheaper?

You can make no argument that will make sense to me that says basic health care is nothing short of a right. It's analogous to saying I've trod on a nail but I'm not fixing the foot because it's the legs problem. A healthy society pulling together achieves. Sitting in your small empire asserting "what's mine is mine" does not. Your duty is to contribute not simply to take.

"Why can't people understand we can't afford this. Why do people trust a single word a democrat says."

we can't afford not to do it

'read my lips'

'Iraq = al quaida'

'Iraq = WMD'

'Iraq = 6 months 100 mil $'

'I didn't try to pork that page boy'

'I was reaching for something I dropped under the bathroom stall'

This is ridiculous. You think you are going to have to pay for someone else's healthcare? You are already paying for the 2 800 billion dollar bailouts to the banks and the stimulus packages. You already pay for other people's welfare checks. Look at it this way, would you deny your grandmother her right to healthcare if she could not afford it or her medicare would not cover it? Of course not. I am proud to be a Canadian for several reasons, healthcare is only one of them. If you are not in favor of your fellow Americans having the same health coverage that you do, then you are not a compassionate human being and are completely ignorant to what your country is about.

The subject of your post, as I understand it and as you have titled it, appears to be asking readers to speculate as to why people are putting a Hitler mustache on Obama's image.

Well, Jake, as I posted yesterday, those attending the tea-bagging and other anti-(fill-in-the-blank) rallies seem to believe that:

*** It's because as a secret Muslim, Obama's solution for reforming health care and helping the sick is much like Hilter's "Final Solution". Except along with the Jews and other undesirables, he'll also be carting off all of the Christians to the re-education and work camps where, after getting their tattoos, they will learn to make/be soap and light shades.

As Obama says each night after prayers, "Sieg heil, Allah." ***

Honestly, Jake, why else would they be doing this?

This genuinely appears to be their mindset and way of thinking -- unless, that is, they are so completely ignorant of history that they really don't know why Hitler is such an evil person.

Maybe, Jake, you could provide some insight into this topic and explain why the right-wingers are doing this, because it sure doesn't seen to be rooted in reality.

Please, Jake, explain to us why they equate Hitler with Obama and what their fears are really based on.

I promise you I won't censor you for speaking the ugly truth...

Re: "HE HAS AMENDED BIRTH RECORDS! VISIT NATURAL BORN CITIZEN blog."

Not true. The original birth certificate in his file was not changed in any way. Obama has posted the official birth certificate of Hawaii, and the facts on it, that he was born in Hawaii, were confirmed twice by the officials in Hawaii

The Wall Street Journal commented: "Obama has already provided a legal birth certificate demonstrating that he was born in Hawaii. No one has produced any serious evidence to the contrary. Absent such evidence, it is unreasonable to deny that Obama has met the burden of proof. We know that he was born in Honolulu as surely as we know that Bill Clinton was born in Hope, Ark., or George W. Bush in New Haven, Conn.

The release of the obsolete birth certificate would not “resolve the issue” to those for whom it is not already resolved. They claim without basis that today’s birth certificate is a fake; there is nothing to stop them from claiming without basis that yesterday’s is as well."

Re: "Obama has "amended" records per the responses for this request.HE HAS AMENDED BIRTH RECORDS! VISIT NATURAL BORN CITIZEN blog."

Not true. The records were not amended. They are in the files exactly the way that they were entered in 1961.

Obama has posted the official birth certificate of Hawaii, and the facts on it, that he was born in Hawaii in 1961, were confirmed twice by the officials in Hawaii.

As the Wall Street Journal commented: "Obama has already provided a legal birth certificate demonstrating that he was born in Hawaii. No one has produced any serious evidence to the contrary. Just a point...public option is nothing. It is NOT public health care and nowhere near universal health care. In my view, it's a scam. Not even implemented for four years? It's smoke a mirrors imho.

Sorry, Seth, my comment was for Rick's bald misinformation.

Posted by: Loyal Canadian | Sep 29, 2009 3:25:30 PM

We've had a public, single payer system for over a half a century!!!!! Don't know for how long we will have since it's being sabotaged!

Posted by: Loyal Canadian | Sep 29, 2009 3:21:49 PM

Also, the architect of the system, Tommy Douglas, is long dead and gone. You are talking about the Dr who went to the supreme court to privatize so his clinics would make more money and who is now the head of the CMA.

Posted by: Loyal Canadian | Sep 29, 2009 3:19:46 PM

Not true, Seth. The majority - 82 percent LOVE our health care system, in spite of the fact it is undergoing massive attacks and cutbacks by those who seek to make massive amounts of money by privatizing it.

Posted by: Loyal Canadian | Sep 29, 2009 3:17:36 PM

Yes, Rick. After looking at the polls you provided and reading the sources you cited I'm beginning to see what you're talking about.

...Oh wait, you provided no polls or sources.... Nevermind. Who needs a public option for our health care system here in America?

Posted by: Seth | Sep 29, 2009 2:03:48 PM

The Majority of Canadians are NOT happy with the healthcare system, in fact just last year the architect of the system said it was so broke it needed to be done from the ground up!

Posted by: Rick | Sep 29, 2009 12:45:10 PM

Joe Steel: The vast majority, and I mean vast, of canadians are very happy about health care. A few would like to have premium services on top of the commoners, and a few sick folks find waiting lists for certain illnesses too long, but they're the exception that proves the rule and mainly, our health care is cheap to pay for and excellent when you're in trouble... no one here goes bankrupt or without coverage. The canadian voted national hero of the century was Tommy Douglas, the guy who pushed for universal health care.

It isn't just security that's an advantage, it's an incredible relief from hassle... I can choose any doctor or hospital, there's almost NO paperwork unless you move to a different province, and there's no fear of being ripped off, no such thing as pre-existing condition (unless you're trying to immigrate here).
