'World Leader' to Obama: Explain Why 'They're Putting a Hitler Moustache On You'
September 27, 2009 1:16 PM
President Obama at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation dinner last night, discussing false claims made about the health care reform bill, told a little anecdote.
"I was up at the G20 -- just a little aside -- I was up at the G20, and some of you saw those big flags and all the world leaders come in and Michelle and I are shaking hands with them," the president said. "One of the leaders -- I won't mention who it was -- he comes up to me. We take the picture, we go behind.
"He says, 'Barack, explain to me this health care debate.'
"He says, 'We don't understand it. You're trying to make sure everybody has health care and they're putting a Hitler mustache on you -- I don't -- that doesn't make sense to me. Explain that to me.'"
Asked who this was, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs would say only "a world leader."

In response to the one poster who said fascism and socialism were on the opposite ends of the spectrum...not so!

OMG. Catch a fricking clue. You are tossing totalitarianism in the mix-- and while you can get there from both the left and the right, and they may not seem all that different once you get there, but you really sound uninformed. Read books, lots of books. It could help.

Of course world leaders do not understand right-wing Americans' blind hatred. No sane person understands their complete lunacy. It's like trying to explain how America could have voted for GW Bush twice. It cannot be explained besides pointing out we have a large amount of very uneducated, ignorant people in our country who get their information from drug-addicted TV/radio pundits who barely graduated high school.

"They're putting a Hitler moustache on you, I don't understand why"...said one socialist to the other. I'll explain why concisely, we don't want the government in control of our health decisions. Can't understand why??? Ask all of the people in England who carry PRIVATE insurance so that when they need to see a doctor they use their private insurance so that they can get an appointment and treatment. Yeah, that make a great argument for socialized medicine.

If Obama was the dictator some say he is....Glenn Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh would be in a jail where no one knew where they were. However, he is not a dictator, nor a communist nor a racist but a person who denies racism is behind much of the discontent and is honest enough to realize what is bothering people. He feels their pain and believe it or not cannot believe that some people are as disgusting as Limbaugh and the other musketeers. I think people are tiring of their tirade and it solves nothing. It divides the public and what is worse is that much of the stuff they profess, is not true or distorted. They have frightened the older generation with the "death panel" nonesense and other false information. If people have questions, there are cites on the computer like FactCheck.Org and others which will give you the correct answers and calm some fears. I am 71 and do not think Obama will put me to sleep and I have been around long enough to be shocked at the rhetoric on the talk shows. Free speech is one thing but mis-information because you want that person to fail is another. Anyone who wants our president to fail, no matter who, is detremental to our society as if he fails, so do we. Where was all this indignation when a republican president ignored the banks, ignored the housing crisis, failed to provide a health care bill, failed to address social security ignored the jobs situation? To just say we made a mistake is not enough. That is when you should have been marching with signs to get the president to do something..not now. I know...I an a registered republican.

I question Obama and his decision making process, his intentions and politics on where this Country needs to be in the future, his lack of experience is beginning to reveal itself...with that said...ANYONE who labels or characterizes the (ANY) President of the United States as "hitler" only demonstrates truly what an UNEDUCATED IDIOT THEY REALLY ARE...This is NOT helpful to this Country as demonstrated by the title of this article...

In response to the one poster who said fascism and socialism were on the opposite ends of the spectrum...not so! Both demand government control; it's simply a matter of the extent of that control. Under facism, the state allows private companies are allowed to operate; however, the services must be approved by the state. Schindler, the brave industrialist who attempted to save Jews from extermination, was allowed to operate because his company provided goods and services needed by the government. Under socialism, of course, the state owns and operates all industry.

To idiots who insist that Hitler established universal health care in Germany you need to study German History a bit closer. Otto von Bismarck established Universal Health Care in Germany with three bills (1883, 1884, and 1889). For those who claim that Hitler established a socialist system in Germany, also go recheck history, who were the first political opponents eliminated by Hitler? The socialists! Just because the word socialist is in the name of the Nazi party doesn't make them a socialist organization, or do you believe that North Korea is really democratic? Hitler did not nationalize industry, he made the German state the primary purchaser of heavy manufacture products (ie weapons, vehicles, etc...).
Now onto the real issues here...oh wait, someone else wanted to open their mouth with an under-educated opinion. Explain how government provided health care violates the constitution in any way. Explain the specific article that doesn't allow the government to tax the people and then provide health care for them. After that go and look at the above paragraph about OvB and understand the the Germans had national health care for 50 years before the Nazis.
Waterboarding - Common Law: after WWII the US war crimes tribunals in the Pacific theater, tried Japanese for war crimes for waterboarding US troops.
Government Regulation: DoD Army Field Manual that prohibits waterboarding by Military personnel?
Statute: War Crimes Act (1996) which makes torture a crime punishable by mandatory life in prison or death.
Yes the US waterboards special forces members in SERE training, specifically so they are prepared to not surrender information; however, there is a difference between practicing something in a controlled environment with people in the same uniform and having something done to you by your captor and not knowing if they are going to kill you or not.
You don't think the warrantless wiretapping was a big deal then you apparently don't like the 4th Amendment which provides protection against unreasonable searches, and warrants issued without probable cause. A wiretap is a search, and without a warrant it ignores one's 5th Amendment due process rights.

The single true answer to the question of "Why do they do this?" is "Because in the United States of America we still can."
Democrats can call Bush Hitler and Republicans can call Obama Hitler. Some people may find such namecalling uncouth, but it is our birthright as Americans to freely express ourselves.

nazis are socialists and communists are socialists , the supposed right left split was propogandized by the soviets beginning in the thirties

How about instead of "Trying to make sure everybody has healthcare" it is phrased like this; "Trying to force some people to pay for other peoples healthcare."
By the way one of Hitler's "reforms" was nationalized healthcare. That is the reason for the comparison.
Not that I would make that comparison.

And Jake - WHICH false claims are you referring to, exactly?

The stumbling block for a lot of people is "requiring" everyone to get health insurance. But if you are going to prevent denial of coverage from pre-conditions, you must require everyone to have insurance.
Think about it: Otherwise, NOBODY would get health insurance until they got sick, since you could easily get a policy regardless of health condition! And that is not a sustainable system.
The opposite (everyone being insured) spreads the risk, which means per-person the cost is much less. That is the goal our representatives are working towards.

Speaking to the "congressional black caucus". That doesn't sound racist!
This is the most divisive president in my lifetime, dating back to Kennedy. He seems to be intent on setting race relations back 40 years, to the glory days of the 60's. Why can't we just MoveOn.

One command all GOVERNMENTS want you to adhere to: "DO NOT STEAL" . We all know they want that because Government hates the competition!!!!

Claire - Have you ever tried to stop and listen to Obama? Me and my healthcare-working friends have followed everything closely... most of your "suggestions" ARE Obama's healthcare plan! And we have not seen any signficant contradictions at all, he's been extremely straightforward and methodical. It's the exageration and lies (on both sides of the issue) that contradict.
"The only way to reduce costs is to increase competition and allow the beneficiary select the provider and plan, spending the sum of money the beneficiary is given or earns."
This is exactly what Obama proposed in his address. He emphasized it twice. Any system of telling people what company or plan to select is not even remotely being suggested.
"Not only should 'cherry picking' relative to pre-existing conditions or developing illnesses be outlawed, but geographic cherry picking also.... SELL ALL POLICIES NATIONWIDE or sell NONE!"
This is exactly how Obama proposed to increase competition. He said we must allow companies to sell outside their current territories due to practical monopolies in some states.
"But the choice for a given family should be the family... spending their benefits money regardless of where it came from. Neither the Goverment nor Employer nor Labor boss should decide for the family...."
This again was Obama's whole core message. The people spouting "Death Panels" and such lies have been caught and even resigned. (Betsy McCaughey)
"With the 'customer' deciding on the plan and provider... nationwide... true competition will drive down prices and drive up quality."
I am not kidding, this is basically a one-sentence summary of Obama's ultimate plan.
Guys, very little of the Healthcare Plan being worked on even involves government spending at all... it's reform to get insurance companies under control... in the grand scheme of things it does not cost much government money to do so.

Because, uh... the Obamacare system is a load of crap?
It's not working in Canada. It's not working in the UK. In Germany people, who can afford if, run to private insurances because the nationalized system is a load of crap. It's just like that in every single country that has nationalized healthcare.
The system is not working.

Why can't we get all the facts? Why can't we get all the facts out to the rest of the world? Perhaps we have a state controlled media which is, perhaps, why our leader has a Hitler mustache....

And, like the rich who invested with Bernie Madoff and wonder why he was'nt investigated, the left who think ACORN does a lot of good work for the poor don't think an investigation is neccessary.

The world leader who asked the question certainly doesn't know his German history. One of the programs essential to National Socialism (the Nazis) was a healthcare program. As part of that healthcare program, "death panels" existed, and they targeted the old, infirm, and mentally ill. This is just one way in which fascism intruded into daily life. Of course, other programs (such as a state-run automobile maker) we now have also match the "noble" goals of the Nazis, whose crimes extended much further than killing six million Jews. Obama would have been better off not relating the question at all, for the kernel of its truth is all too visible to his detractors -- myself included.
